- An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.
Information from wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.
According to the Defense Department, 59 soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.

As for the numbers of people killed here in that time period, could you break it down in terms of where these shootings occured geographically, and the circumstances?

GPS devices are currently installed in various squad cars and the program was previously scheduled for expansion. Upon my arrival, I was informed that the OEMC was researching GPS technology for the entire CPD
fleet. I directed the Department to find a solution that placed officer safety as the primary goal.
The model selected by the OEMC is an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system and has the ability to relay your exact location to the dispatcher and, in turn, responding officers when you need assistance. AVL can speak
for you when you cannot: the selected AVL system will eventually be able to alert dispatchers if the airbags have
deployed or if you have rolled over. In such instances, the system will relay information to the 911 center, which
will automatically dispatch medical personnel. Whether you cannot communicate due to a serious car accident, radio inoperability, or a violent assailant, AVL can identify your location and allow help to find you quickly.
The AVL system can also protect you against false accusations. If the device records your location at a specific time different than where the accuser claims, the AVL information will be crucial in challenging the accusation.
The AVL technology will back you up.
As with the implementation of any new technology, some skepticism is expected. Few of us would choose to hit the streets without a radio in today’s world. Yet, I have spoken to retired officers who recall how the radios that
many of us now rely on were viewed with deep suspicion when introduced. With time, it is expected that AVL will demonstrate the same life-saving capabilities as our radios, and be relied upon as heavily to ensure the safety of our personnel. To this end, districts which have the highest number of officer batteries and officer involved shootings will receive AVL first. Moreover, in order to demonstrate good-faith and to lead from the front,
all members of the command staff will be among the first to have AVL installed in their vehicles.

Be fair. The 123 people killed in Chicago, are general population casualties. During the same period, the actual number of people killed in Iraq is over 1,000.
Comparing the numbers between general population murders in Chicago with the deaths of active military personnel in war zones is not quite fair.

A dispute over lawn space erupted into a turf war that sent one man to the hospital before a sold-out Donna Summer concert Saturday at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, police said.
After setting up their blankets, chairs and a tarp, a group of concertgoers from Arlington Heights left for a restaurant. Returning an hour later, they found their belongings displaced by a Chicago group, which they confronted.
A woman in the Chicago group tried to attack a woman from the returning group, police said. A 40-year-old Chicago man then punched a 49-year-old Arlington Heights man, prompting a wine-and-cheese splattering melee, police said.
The Arlington Heights man was taken by ambulance to Highland Park Hospital, where he received 15 stitches, while the Chicago man was charged with battery.

As for the war time comparison, I have no problem with it. It's true and like it or not it's a fair comparison.
Imagine that less U.S. Soldiers are killed in a War Zone than in the City of Chicago. The sad part is that we are so use to this violence it really has no direct impact on our feelings. Those who may have loss a family member to it, well it will forever weigh in their minds and thoughts.
I have heard so many possible solutions to this violence but to be truthful I doubt any would have any impact on it.
When you have a group of people who are living off free social programs with no real direct parenting and you have nothing to do everyday, let's face it...Most turn to drugs, alcohol to pass the time and many then engage in criminal activities to either support a drug habit or just to be part of the gang member family.
As long as these social programs keep expanding and there is absolutely no incentive to change your life, this violence will only escalate over time. That is a fact.

Maybe you wanted to give a plug to a station that nobody watches or gives a shit about, I don't know.
Since the title of the post was in big letters "You'd Be Safer In Iraq", and your last comment was in reference to the Olympics, I can only guess you were using that fucked up CBS analysis to make point about how the Olympics don't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever reaching Chicago. Which would be fine by me, by the way.
Just don't use dead soldiers to make the point, even if you're only referring to the story CBS put out. Because you did use it to make a point, and that's a slap at every Vet and active duty troop out there. I know you've voiced support for the military before. These comparisons have been raised before, and everybody with half a brain knows they're bullshit. Why even bother even repeating them?
And perhaps a better comparison and litmus test proposal that could have been made by CBS is to take 50 people randomly from the worst districts in Chicago and have them trade places with 50 random people from the worst cities and provinces of Iraq.
My bet is that the people from Chicago would feel a lot less safe, and the people from Iraq would welcome the free vacation to Chicago. It would be a nice break in the action for them, I'm sure.

Palin is a right to work governor and you know what that means, no unions. They think America is only for them. We are all Americans and Love our country.

The citizens in this city created this problem. They supported killers and criminals over their own police officers. They believed media hype fed by lawyers filing million dollar claims against the city, that the police were the problem, not the criminals.
The citizens elect and support people who talk around every problem in black neighborhoods. Arrests are caused by racial profiling, not crime. Students fail because there's not enough money, not a lack of effort. Crime are unsolved because the department is inept, not because citizens secretly conceal and support criminals. Criminals found not guilty in court are innocent, they aren't acutally guilty but let go because of incompetant judges, lying witnesses, or unethical defense lawyers.
The officers on this department have been warned and warned that they will be sued or sent to prison if they push the laws to put criminals in prison. They learned that its safer to stand firmly in support of a criminal's rights. Of course, the criminal has no problem violating anyone else's rights.
The slight increase in murders is the direct result of the deterioration of the morale of this police department.
I'm not for cheering murders. But this barge just started moving in this direction a short time ago. By next summer, you can surely expect crime increases across the board that are so extreme they will get international attention.
And in the end, the citizens only have themselves to blame.

Seriously, that crap that they threw out in their newscast has been bandied about many times before. And it's not only a shitty comparison, it's insulting to those troops that have been killed and wounded in action. I think the operative word is "pandering".
The insult is compounded when it's used in a post here that in effect was using the news report to make the comment "Olympics our asses", which has absolutely nothing to do with nothing. Certainly not the KIA and the WIA in Iraq or Afghanistan.
And keep saying it's "no big deal". If somebody was using dead police officers to make a point like the one being made on this blog, with a similar topic, you'd be be the first ones to get totally fucking ragged.
Who gives a fuck about the Olympics anyway? It's not as if Chicago is even going to get the nod to host the games. The IOC is sitting in their offices right now saying, "Hmm...Rio, or Chicago...Rio..or Chicago...well, looks like Rio it is".
And their decision won't be based on the number of people getting gunned down in Chicago, just as it won't come down to how fucked up things are in the Favelas on the outskirts of Rio.
Rant over, and I doubt this will even see the light of day. But if it does, I fully expect to get torched by SCC or somebody else.
