That's Silly, Just Silly, Silly

You got to love when Shortshanks stutters with indignation:
  • Mayor Daley today denounced as “laughable” former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s claim that Barack Obama “immersed himself in Chicago machine politics.”
  • “I couldn’t understand it. In 1979, I think I ran for state’s attorney as an independent. I don’t know where we get this — this idea that there’s a big Democratic machine going on,” Daley said.

“Chicago and the metropolitan area is very Democratic and the state is. [But] there’s no machine. I thought it was laughable. That’s what Democrats and Republicans have to do at conventions: yell at each other. But, in the long run, people are much smarter and can understand that there’s just a lot of political rhetoric going on.”

Um, the reason you didn't get the Machine's endorsement back then is because Jane was at the wheel then. Remember? We do.

And of course, guess whose lips are planted firmly on the mayor's ass in their piece of so-called "journalism" - our buddy Fran. And even she can't hid the obviousness of the existence of the Machine (or "Combine" as John Kass like to call it):
  • He never forgot the snub. That’s at least part of the reason why, after being elected mayor in 1989, he created a new machine — comprised of political armies like the Hispanic Democratic Organization — to work around the Democratic party structure.

The strategy worked like a charm until the 2006 conviction of the mayor’s former patronage chief on charges of rigging city hiring to benefit the soldiers in the mayor’s political army.

We can only hope a perp walk similar to the mayor of Detroit is in Daley's future.

Machine politics, that's the real reason we have a residency requirement. Tax base bullshit!

If the Streets and Sans guys, Precint Captain's and other city workers (besides cpd/cfd) were allowed to live out in the burbs do you think they would care about getting out the vote for Daley? Hell no!

I have voted several times for non-machine candidates and my ballot has come back spoiled every single time...that means not counted...That's what Precint Captain's do to keep their cushy city jobs.

Just a thought here. Nobody has ever, especially emperor Daley (actually nobody has ever even asked) that if there is no patronige in Chicago why does Daley (and every other pol) have a patronidge chief? And exactly what are the duties of a patronidge chief and how much does he get paid?

Barack Obama Bin-Laden says---

That infidel Daley only thinks that I am part of his machine. I only used him to help me get this far. I answer only to Allah. Daley will be discarded after my coronation as Califate of the newly formed Islamic States of America.

Change you better believe in.

If McCain wins, all he really has to do is leave the current US attorney in office a few more years. The feds are slow, but given enough time they will convince someone to roll on Daley rather than take it up the backside themselves.

Rumor has it that Mrs. Blago and Emil Jones are on tap to do the perp walk next. Supposedly in October.

I would love to see G. Ryan, Daley, Jones, and Blago sharing a room at Club fed.

off subject: ask Sgt A. Bielicki 014 about the time a prisoner spit on her partner and he slap him. She went running into the watch commander to inform on her partner. Be very careful of her, she is not to be trusted

With all respect - Daley is right. There is no "Machine" today. In the era of Daley I, there was a Machine. The Party committee officially endorsed a candidate for every office. Everyone had to support that candidate. Anyone who ran for office without that Party backing was destroyed. (I speak of the primaries, of course.)

But look at things now. There was a five-way race for State's Attorney this year. Who was the "Machine" candidate? None of them! Daley didn't even make an endorsement. Nor do I recall him taking sides in any of the contested aldermanic races last year.

He doesn't need to. There's no organized force that could oppose him; if an alderman goes down, his replacement will be no problem. County officeholders are no threat either, so again he just lets it ride. He and his county allies protect each other by neutralizing the offices and agencies they control. That is, the city government won't be a base for challenges to the County officeholders, nor vice versa.

That makes it very hard to get anything started.

The Republicans have been ground down to nothing. The liberal reformers have been co-opted. Daley can just coast along on the strength of incumbency.

Just a Civilian
