It's Not What You Think
A commentator has said that IAD and Inspectors are being trained up as breath-techs and someone stated that if the next time they call for a breath-tech for a DUI and it's an Inspector or someone from IAD, then they'll just stop doing DUIs.
First up, don't stop doing DUIs - never doubt that you're doing good getting drunks off the street.
Secondly, they aren't training these guys to go to Districts and handle your DUI arrests. They're training them up to go after intoxicated cops. That's the only reason.

I love the paranoia. Fucking hilarious!
Yeah, we all know that when Big Bird hears a call for a tech, he's gonna come speeding to the scene
You gotta love the "training" this department offers. Long time officers in the districts were NEVER trained on I-Clear, the very infrastructure we're running on. The only way you learn what's avail is to ask the guy next to you, and just when you figure out how it works, they politely change the format. Automated Report writing, typically a two day class at the academy was handled by watching a video and answering questions not even covered in the silly ass video because it was supposed to be covered in the "class-room". And yet, we have all the funds necessary to train Inspectors, get in car camera systems, GPS, and a slew of other tools to "assist" the officer.
Okay, sorry cannot ramble on much longer, I need to take this opportunity of downtime to start working on my letter to Santa Claus.
I agree, never stop getting DUI's off the streets, they kill innocent people, even police officers. As far as IAD, never trust them. They play these little games where they are everyone's friends when in all actuality they are nothing but glorified Rats in the Rat Squad. CPD has only a few good investigators in IDA, the rest bring down the whole section. If the complaint happens to land in the hands of one of the bad ones, look out and bend over as here it comes.
drink in your basement by yourself
Get smart people!! The party is over! Swallow your pride and call a cab, your gf or wife, but do not try to drive! Corny but, "friends dont let friends drive drunk!" It could be a million dollar decision and prison time so "get busy living or get busy dying!!!! That is all ladies and gentlemen! From one who has walked the walk!
I am used to being hunted now and have adapted.
I never let anyone know i am the police outside of work.
I avoid "police" bars and when attending police functions park away from the event location.
I don't wear the uniform in transit and make sure my street clothes reveal nothing.
I long ago removed all police identifiers from my personal vehicles and keep my D/L separate from my work credentials.
I know well that the penalties for civilians are less than for the police and am seeking the P instead of the KR.
I was once a predator but am now prey.
I'll never call for one
I bet Commander Mealer believs if he "gets" a couple of duis on his people in 017 that will improve morale. That is the way this guy thinks.

You are a paranoid idiot.
If you could only see some of the stupid shit your fellow coppers do, you'd shake your head in shame.
It's a job that unfortunately has to be done, just like the job you're doing on the street. What, you think the public loves you?
it's a fact that IAD has a lot of people now trained as breath techs (cannot speak as to the inspectors). however, even in recent police involved cases, IAD has REFUSED to be the ones to administer the blows. they are still insisting on calling in an ET to be put in the middle. IAD's claiming that they haven't done enough of them - and anyone who has been trained as a breathtech knows, that's a bunch of bullshit. you leave that class ready to do breath tests. you don't have to do another 50 supervised breath tests on the street before you get to do one on your own. IAD is just fucking scared and lazy.
Absolutely correct that IAD and Inspectors will be handling the testing for cops accused of being DUI either on or off duty. The department doesn't trust the district coppers to administer the test to another cop. There won't be another huge time lapse between the crash and the test, as in a most recent incident. And when the department gets it way about testing for DUI after a department vehicle crash, well you will see IAD or and Inspector conduct the test.
Back in the '80s the talk of the department was to track the location of the cars by placing devices on each light pole. Well the technology is here now without the use of the light poles.
Tracking, DUI testing, DNA samples, etc etc to only keep tabs on the police and give the city the out it needs to throw the cop under the bus when it becomes necessary. Wait for the department to push for cops to pay for preventable department vehicle crashes.
Be careful. Be very careful.
This is true about the inspectors and IPRA. They are only there for PO's. If you find yourself having to blow by direct order, make sure they hit the F2 button first. That way they cant use it in court for a 501.
IPRA & IAD are being trained in DUI & they took the breath tech course.
This way they will know if you do your job correctly when you are ordered to process an off duty copper.
Your all a bunch of whiners, the JFed told you if you drink too much just call him and he'll drive you home.
A question that will be added on the revised DUI Alcohol/Drug Influence Report will be: Did you request a ride home from JFed?.
By the time these shitheads show up at a district I'll be as sober as a judge, oh, I sorry, sober as an FBI agent.
How about a breath tech for those who have god-awful breath? It could be called the "bad breath squad"
