Question on GPS

Are they GPS-ing all the coverts from Narcotics, Gang Intel and Vice?

After all, those police are the ones carrying no ID, no visible signs of office, maybe a hideaway gun not easily accessible (or no gun at all), and no radio? Aren't those the cops most likely needing to be found when the crap hits the fan?

Hi people, Missy here,

I carry a GPS so my husband knows were to find me while I am writing my parkers all day in the loop.

I do not carry a cell phone because it is a violation of our R/R' people.

Sometimes I am in alleys writing parkers. I want everyone know were I am with my own GPS.

My great uncle, Tom Byrne (rtd) told me our Mayor just wants to keep us safe with the departments GPS. I am so much out of my police car, writing and writing parkers that I hope my uncle Tom gives me a "Chip" I can put in my hair net so OEMC knows were I am at.

Please people, mostly female P.O.'s. if you are working do not park your police vehicle and shop.

No excuses ladies. We do not get paid to shop while getting paid. If you write over 500 parkrs a day, then I could say you are a worker like me and maybe can take a few minutes to shop.

Be safe people,
Missy- 1st. district parking ticket guru.
P/S/ Monday is here, I feel a big parking ticket day for me.

Show our beloved mayor we care, write a 100 or MORE. He will love us more then ever.

Remember GPS can be used to tell how fast you were going when Pookie crashed into the "el" structure and you were just following him. It can also tell who was anywhere nearby when June Bug did the same thing. No more chases, no more being proactive. GPS=ghetto protective service.

Great time for GPS too!

It's gonna be winter soon, time for the annual "Movies In A West Side Park".

That right! I'll hunker down in some trash ridden park, blast the heat & enjoy some of the finest cinema offered on my portable DVD player!

Don't be "confrused" with the gamers take of my event with their own "PSP In A West Side Park".

But soon we'll be able to relax, summer is gonna be gone & the West Side is gonna freeze over.

Note to Chalkie... don't interrupt my movie, dammit!

I work in Narcotics. I have to agree with SCC's question.

The reason being given out for GPS is safety. Nobody is in more danger than buy officers from Narcotics. I have had drug dealers, middlemen, and hypes in my covert when going to make a buy. There have been many times when I didn't have a gun and my only means of communication immediately accesible was my personal cell phone.

Surveillance has never lost me when I have been mobile but, it could happen. I doubt Narcotics will get GPS because of all the leased cars.

This veteran officer has been asking Fireman and Streets & San guys about GPS. I've asked them how its works and how its used. The citys reason for having GPS is possible. Then you look at how GPS is used and the only conclusion is for jamming up Police Officers. There is no board being watch with every police car on a grid. The GPS takes about two minutes to locate you after a dispatcher call is made. Two minutes in a safety emergency equals death in our job!!!!!!

Suck it CPD brass!!!!!!! The smoke and mirrors being used doesn't cut it. The city, judges, and asa's don't trust us and The citizens hate us!!!!!!!!

That is why GPS is being used.

I'm still waiting to hear that the mayor's bodyguard detail is equipped with GPS, as well as his personal city owned vehicle.

They should but they can't, the City doesn't own most of the coverts, in fact they don't own any of them, they lease them and adding or altering the vehicle from its state as it was leased would violate the terms of the lease and then the city would have to purchase the vehicle....You know how that one would go!

Lighten up people, folks too.

GPS is here for whatever reason; it will not go away. As someone else stated, do your job and there is little to worry about. If they want to gig you for something they will, with or without GPS.

Having said that, every city vehicle should have it, or none should. The installation should begin with the people at the top and work it's way down. I know asking the city leaders to lead by example is asking a lot, but it would go a long way towards establishing credibility.

Please....

They should put the GPS in the NAGIS cars just to count the daily violations the people rack up in those cars.

Having been there, I can tell you, there are many, many scholarship officers there, and they are there just for the car. I have seen people make phone calls to their clout because they did not like the car they were given, and then when they got a car, they used it outside of the scope of their duties.

They use it to take the kids to school; to run errands, go outside of the city and visit family, all sorts of non-police, non-NAGIS stuff. The people with the mini vans, they are the worst; they use these things to pick up lumber, drywall, whatever the project is. Hell, they really should look into the HDO hacks, and how some of them use the "covert" min-vans to transport people, kid of like the ‘Pilsen Blue Line Taxi Service’, it is incredible. Trust me when I tell you that this is not somebody crying over spilled milked. The abuse is rampant, and it costs a lot of money.

Again, it is not all, just some, maybe 30%, but WTF, they do it b/c they have clout, and those are the ones that fuck it up for everyone. If you know a former co-worker who is in NAGIS ask them about, off the record of course, but ask them. They will concur with my story. Again, let me state that it is not all, but probably about 30%, and the abuse is so bad it warrants a closer look.

And look into the LT who likes to referee football games in Indiana with his "company car”. I know he is a NAGIS LT who is subject to "call out" but just do not call him out until after he completes the 4th quarter of the latest high school game of the week.

Install GPS for that - do not say you can not because the cars are leased, that is just pure BS. Or install them for the actual good thought that came up in the original post – Officer Safety. Truly, the nature of the job, the fact that you are always someplace unfamiliar, and the people you deal with, these are cars that truly do need the Officer Safety Monitoring Device installed.

What say you, J-fed?

By the way, nobody is buying into this bullcrap of "Officer safety".
FYI Officers in westside districs have recovered high powered weapons off the street as well as responded to shooting's involving high powered rounds.

Officer saftey would be installing the racks for the M-4's that the Dept. already has and allow the Officers that are already qualified to begin carrying these weapons.

Or, how about buying technology that can help us identify criminals better, or some high speed surveillance equipment?
Oh no, this city is spending money on trying to find ways to hold officers accountable.

you know what, fuck buying this high speed gear! Give us Radios, working cars, or a PDT that works. In case you did not know our every day radios don't work for shit!!!

I am amazed how quick you have Placed GPS in 90% of patrol, tact and gang cars in 011. WOW These people where knocking them out left and right. Thank's a lot for sending that kiss ass Bitch Sergeant who was in charge of overlooking the operation. She was a real bitch to everybody who she had to interact with while in 011. GPS and the in-car video cameras are child play compared to the DNA sample that is being talked about to collect from officers. The two items mentioned are technology which if you quit bitching about, learn to make it work for your advantage.

The DNA on the other hand scares the shit out of me. You would have to be a complete fucking moron to submit your gene pool to the federal database.

As I talked about this today with other coppers, us old timers who have been at dozen and dozens crime scenes over the past 25 plus years may have left our DNA at a scene. I would expect a call from the cold case squad sometime after I had retired saying they found my match at a scene. Do you think me or you would remember what the fuck happened years ago. Would they think I and/or you had anything to do with this crime? Can't rule it out.

As far as putting GPS in coverts, hang tight, I'll post an answer in the next few days if my source gives it

The newer radios already have this. Even with the older radios the triangulation method of using the signal strength of three towers will give you a rough location within 100 yards. I was talking to a tech at one of our emergency towers. He said triangulation was the only reason some of those old transmitters are still in service.
