Making Us Proud

This is a nice letter:
  • My uncle was waked at Blake & Lamb on Thursday night along with Officer Taylor. On behalf of my family, I would like to thank the entire Chicago Police Department for showing respect to our family during our time of sorrow. As you know, there was never a slow moment in those lines. You did a great job allowing our family to come and go and not get lost in the sea of blue. Some of you even stopped by to pay your respect to our family. James McNulty was a devoted Chicago fireman who lost his life from lung cancer associated with his work on the CFD. On Friday, while leaving the funeral parlor on our way to the church it was an honor to have the CPD stand at attention and salute him.

We are sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all while you battle this vicious city.
Even in the midst of their own loss, a family member at the other wake appreciated the respect and kindness shown by the men and women in blue. We wouldn't presume to speak for the Department, but simple courtesies like the ones that inspired this letter writer to seek out the blog and thank all of the attending Officers give us hope that all is not lost in this Department and instills a sense of pride in our calling.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Rest in peace, James McNulty

Exactly. Once in a while I feel proud to be the police.

Again, the CPD makes me proud. These are the small things that all to often go unnoticed by the general public but are every day common occurrences for us.

To the writer of this letter:

Your words did more to help us heal than you'll ever know. In a time when it has sometimes been difficult to be proud to be a member of the CPD, it helps to know that there are people who see us for what we truly are.
Good bless your uncle. May his memory be eternal.

You should be proud to be the police every single day. Maybe the administration and most of the bosses suck, but this is an amazing organization of good, brave men and women. We're all fortunate to be a part of it.

I was the Sgt. on the Oak Lawn detail at the wake for Ofc. Taylor. My Officers came in on their day off & volunteered to work the detail. The Chief was kind enough to offer them comp. time, but they refused to put in. Like myself they considered it an honor to work this detail. ( I worked for free too )

I want to thank the many CPD Officers that took the time even in their moment of sorrow to stop by and thank us. Those thanks more than made up for a lost day off.

It was so impressive to see such a huge turnout. But this is what we do, we honor our fallen, and we also honor each other. I was proud to be a Police Officer that day!

Sadly another detail is being put together. CCSP Ofc. Tim Kaufmann will be waked at Blake & Lamb Weds. 10-8-08. Tim is a son of Oak Lawn & his brother is one of our Division Chiefs. If you have some free time, please join us in honoring Tim & his family. Stay safe my brothers & sisters.

R.I.P. Nate

First off, thank you to the officers present during the wake. When my Father (retired LT in CFD) passed, fellow cops who worked with my family showed up in large numbers.

THANK YOU

And second, I don't know if this is the appropriate place for this, but Bill Murray... good guy

GOOD CAUSES: Bill Murray could easily have snared great seats for both Cubs playoff games at Wrigley Field, as he did for the Thursday game. But for Game 1 of the NLSD series, Murray opted to support pal Betsy Shepherd's favorite charity, the Michael Ceriale Foundation event at Wrigley Done Right, benefitting programs in memory of the slain Chicago police officer.

Thank you for the recognition. I hope that your day was all that you had hoped it could be. If we, the officers of the Chicago Police Department, made the day a little easier to cope, I am pleased.

Once again, I'm proud to be a member of the Chicago Police Department.

Rest in peace James McNulty and Nathaniel Taylor.

That letter made me cry. Again.

So sorry for your loss.

But thanks for noticing that we have big hearts, not black ones.

Wish the rest of the public knew that.

Bless your family.

My sympathy to the McNulty family. Thank you for the letter, I'm sure that everyone that read it made them feel a lot better while in the midst of the hard times that we have been facing lately. Thank you to the officers that paid their respects to the McNulty family, it appears as though it ment very much to them. Thank you to Oaklawn - you are always are friends. Thank you to all the other departments that came to Officer Taylor's funeral, it ment much to both his fellow officers, friends and family. God bless the Kaufmann family.

Kudos to the 22nd District tact teams and Administrative Personnel who stood out there for the duration of the Visitation Detail They went out of their way to make sure the McNulty visitors were well treated. Their professionalism was well noted by everyone who attended.

I am not surprised about the Oak Lawn PD.

Thank you guys!

A stand up Department that has to deal with a lot of drunk CPD's racing down 95th Street - yet you never hear of a problem.

To volunteer, on a day off, and not get anything in return...CLASS ACT all the way.

Thanks!

Thank you all for what you do and for the risk you take to your lives each hour you are on the job.

All the mudslinging the police take from the public and the media is done out of ignorance, ignorance of why you do what you do and the whole process it all has to take to be legal.

Each and every one of you are heroes to some of us out here. While I'm writing, I want to posthumously thank all the officers who have given their lives because in the end, a hardened and dangerous criminal was locked up for a long time if not for life.

Each and every one of you need to be proud to wear that star no matter what you get thrown at you because it truly is a real achievement to be where you are. For every bunch of criminals who want to take your lives, you need to remember that there are even more of us citizens out here who appreciate you love to see you guys and gals as you ride by in that squad.

Stand up tall, officers of Chicago because we love you regardless of what others may want you to think!

We're all first responders.
We all bleed the same color...BLUE

It's called, "Professional Courtesy."

Thank You, one and all.
