Fact Checking Fails

Thank goodness that the main stream media has numerous layers of fact checking and proofreaders). Otherwise we might see something like this:
  • [Editor's note: On the front page of its Saturday edition, the Sun-Times erroneously printed the name of the slain officer Nathaniel Taylor. The Sun-Times sincerely regrets the error and will correct it in its Sunday edition.]
Not just leaving out a vowel or mixing up a letter or two - but calling Nathaniel Taylor "Daniel Taylor?" What a bunch of strokes. And then they black out the offending portion of the picture on their website:
Originally, the error appears just above the officers hats. But the photo shopping experts at the Slum-Times, are working overtime to cover someone's butt.

UPDATE: Corrected for spelling

I have kept my subscription to the Sun Times, even after all the bashing of the CPD, for two reasons.

#1 Bears coverage. I like Mike Mulligan.

#2 Feeder - and now he is going to retire.

After ALL the mary Mitchell BS - I stll kept the subscription.

NOT ANYMORE!

This was too big of an error in my book. Then, to add insult to injury, they had to put the article about Nate on the page with GoBama - like the Sun Times can not push their Obama love to another fucking page??? Talk about a paper with an agenda.

So I cancelled and they asked if I would reconsider. HELL NO!

Someone needs to scan the front page of the Sun Times and save it to their computer. Then email it to SCC so they can post it on their website. The Sun Times should not get away with the easy photoshop change of their front page.

Disgraceful.

I'd bet my pension ( as if it will be there in 15 years ) that his name would be spelled right had he been accused of a crime!

I might have noticed if I even considered looking at that piece of shit paper.

Not that the Trib is much better these days, but at least they can spell check! Imagine how Nate's family feels. How horrible.

POSTED IN SCUMTIMES ABOUT MISLEADING LANGUAGE FOR RE THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION, VERY IMPORTANT!

ELECTION 2008:
Judge orders ballot notices
A judge has ruled that every Illinois voter who goes to the polls next month must be notified of misleading language on the ballot. Cook County Circuit Court Judge Nathaniel Howse on Friday ordered election officials to print notices directing voters to disregard the false information, which deals with a referendum on whether Illinois should hold a constitutional convention. The notices will be mailed with military and absentee ballots and handed out at polling places beginning Oct. 8.

The Sun Times screwed the pooch.

However, they provided coverage of the death and funeral of an apparently excellent cop and human being. It's the front page story.

Generally the media did a good job on detailing the life, death and funeral of Nathaniel Taylor. From what I read, heard and saw we would be better off if we had a few thousand more just like him.

I'm a whole lot more concerned about the lack of cops on the street like Officer Taylor than I am over a dumbass mixup in the paper.
