Two days ago, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, seen by many to be a lock on an Obama cabinet spot, said that anyone making under $120,000 won't see any increases.
Anyone see a problem here?

Do the numbers folks. If you calculate his tax proposals he's about $400 million off each year-from spending (money going out) and taxes collected (money coming in), which will actually add $1.2 BILLION worth of debt to our already stellar economy.

Police officer shoots man in Chicago's North Park neighborhood
An off-duty Chicago police officer shot a man early this morning in North Park, police said.
The shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. outside a residence in the 5100 block of North Bernard Street, said Mark Payne, a spokesman for the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates shootings involving Chicago officers.
The man, who police did not identify, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was unavailable.
Knives were recovered at the scene, Payne said.
Police investigators were still on the scene at 3:30 a.m., he said.
No other information was immediately available.

The thing is, we are almost at the point where it doesn't matter what taxes we pay. 10 trillion in national debt is from taxes that weren't paid. Its not particularly a right or left problem, and its something that is slowly bankrupting this country.
You guys recognize "FICA" taxes for social security and medicaid? They come out of private sector paychecks at a fixed percentage up to a maximum cap.
Here's the rub. Imagine the history of FICA tax rates since social security was first formed:
In 1937, the rate was 1%
In 1960, 3 %
In 1970, 4.8 %
In 1980, 6.13 %
In 1990 and later 7.65 %,
Employers match what the employee pays in, so the rate for the self-employed is double the employee's percentage since 1984. The rates include the mandatory Medicare deduction, which has been rising alarmingly fast.
So you tell me how that is a left or right problem. They start a mandatory Ponzi scheme in the 30s, slowly increase the percentages that must be paid in, and it still faces a massive shortfall (mostly due to increased life expectancies).
It really isn't a right or left issue. If it was, the Democrats would have fixed it from 1992-1994 or the Republicans from 2000-2006.

As a retired copper, I am embarrassed by the way some of the people who post messages on this blog have of expressing themselves. Can't you disagree with someone's position without engaging in personal attack? None of us are economists, certainly not the world class economists, that have been consulted by both camps. Tax cuts or tax increases, whatever your preference, are but one small part of the overall picture. Vote your pocketbooks if you like but why argue that a man's race, ethnicity or middle name is proof of his evil intent - it just makes you look stupid, racist, and ignorant.
Every couple of years when contract talks start and stop and raises are demanded, you people claim that you're entitled to a higher standard of living because you "risk your lives every day." Yet, most of you will see little "real" action during your entire careers. You also make far more than most people. The average worker is lucky to be making $12.00 an hour; college graduates maybe $10/hr more; yet patrolmen are now earning $30-35/hr for settling minor disputes and taking reports. Most of the reports written and the investigations conducted (assuming they are actually conducted), could be done by anyone off the street. You think you're experts on just about everything when you know very little about anything which goes on outside your immediate sphere of influence.
Bottom line is - You folks need to get a life and realize just how well off you are and stop slamming anyone who disagrees with you.

I don't buy a new car, I fix the old one. I put off any new purchase and either fix and/or live with the ones I have.
I bring a lunch to work and stay away from restaurants. I don't go to the movies. I don't buy stock, I pull back on my 401K. I don't buy T-bills or CD's with my money, instead I keep it stored in a bank at very low interest, just so I have it. A bank that is scared to lend it out to anyone else.
I don't buy the new cellphone, the new computer, the new IPod, or the new camera.
My army and I all do the same. In the end, the world shuts down. The people at the computer factory are fired. Restaurants close. The stock market crumbles, putting a bigger burden on social security. Walmarts close. Chinamen are fired and revolt. No new businesses open. Old businesses close.
Nothing Barry says will change this. I tell my army to fear not. In the end, we will win. We always do.
consumer reports did an analysis of both candidates health plans. McCain's really was better economically for most middle class families and the soon to be retired segment. It seemed more to get the big picture. Not so short sighted as Obama's.

McCain wants to put a tax on your benefits. Yes he wants to tax your health care. Besides if McCain wants to stay in Iraq and spend all the mopney to do it, he has to do 1 of 2 things. He either raises your taxes to do it, or he puts us in a bigger tax deficit and let someone else straighten it out later.
Bush cut my taxes but not government spending which means we owe even more.
Lets have a balanced budget and only spend what we have.

You need to do your math before deciding that this is a bad thing. True McCain has said that he would like to include the employee contribution of health insurance as taxable income. However that would be offset by a $5000.00 tax credit per family.
If do the math, you might see that McCain's plan may actually give you a tax benefit. On a PO salary, the highest tax bracket you will fall in is 25 % (probably way less depending on your real taxable income.) The city pays about $12,000 for health insurance per family. If taxed, that would create a tax liability of $3,000. Offset that with the 5,000 tax credit McCain wants to give you and you end up with a $2,000 refund. This is set up to go along with the progressive income tax we pay. Therefore, the less you make the lower the tax bracket and the less tax liability.
Instead of just listening to the leftist media, do the math and actually see which plan will benefit your family. It may not benefit all of you this way because some families have two incomes and two health insurance plans, but in that case the $5,000 tax credit would completely offset the tax liabilities created due to taxing employee health care contributions. Whatever the case, to argue that your taxes will go up under John McCain’s health plan is incorrect and they may actually go down depending on your family income.

Former Governor Edgar, who I still respect somewhat, ran a commercial on CON CON and encouraged a no vote. The CURRENT leadership will run the CON CON and set the agenda. His solution is to vote out the present leaders.

He has endorsed letting the Bush tax breaks expire in 2011 and repeatedly say he will raise taxes on anyone making over 250k (which now seems to be lowering according to some reports). If you think that business owners will not increase the price of products and services, or lay off employees (gasp... sound familiar?) to cover the increase in taxes, you are not only deaf but profoundly naive.

No, I am an accountant just pointing out the truth about the tax consequences of McCain's Healthcare plan. Anything beyond that is pure speculation on your part.
However, if you want to speculate here is a thought for you? If you think that under Obama's plan you will be keeping your current healthcare plan you are sadly mistaken. The choice will be up to the employer (in your case, Daley) of either providing with health insurance or participating in a governmental healthcare insurance program. Which do you think Daley will choose?
Whatever the case there is no way to reason with you because you have already been tainted by the Democratic Party.

Yes he has said he will raise taxes and will let the Bush tax cuts expire, which means taxes get raised again! the marriage tax, capital gains, all taxes back in effect, child tax credit gone!
McCain wants to raise the child tax credit to $7000 per child, Obama would let it expire at its current rate of $3000 per child.
