WBBM's weekend violence update confirms five killings in the city. If last Wednesday's number is correct (492) then we're hovering at 497 for the year. We noticed some of our commentators double counting.

How is it that the guy who shot the Sgt in 004 last week got a 100k bond and the 2 guys who broke into Judge Ford's wife's (also a judge) car get a 500k and 350k bond respectively for burglary to auto and agg battery to a judge? I mean don't get me wrong I like Judge Ford, he's always been a class act, and the obvious is there them both being judges. I think this is a bit ridiculous...

Let's put this in perspective, In Ciudad,Juarez, Mexico, pop. 2 million, there have been over 700 murders already this year. So, compared to Jaurez, Chicago is looking pretty good.

well in my south side district i don't think any of the teams are full. (nobody wants to be the bitchboys and theres no point to work tac anymore) I know one team has 4 people!! so what your saying is were going to have 4-5 man tac teams!! Theres nobody to dump over here.

According to the official DOC e-mail. As of this morning we were at 497. That included the 5 over the weekend

Why even have a tact lt? Why even have a tct team? Everyone in uniform even the detectives who many never work a 4 hour day, all in uniform sell the unmarked cars all marked who give a shit!

Years ago the Homicide Dets. referred to most murders as Civic Improvement! Works for me! That should be the classification for about 95% of our murder "victims"

Chicago has hit a mark it would have preferred to miss: 500 homicides for 2008 with more than a week to go in the year.
A little below 500, or a bit above 500, the number is Appalling. And, how about putting up the number of shooting victims in the city in 2008? They're just forgot about? Man I can't wait to get away from here....
Counting the violet criminals, and the white collar criminals, [our politicians], Illinois must have the highest number of criminals per state in the U.S.A. I'm sure Shit-cago leads for the top City, easily.

Without going into detailed reading of everyone's post, I'll reply accordingly:
CLEAR will NOT show you the correct amount of homicides occurring during the year. Why? Because any incident in which the RD# pulled was for Agg Batt or Death Investigation STAYS that way. CLEAR is deliberately NOT updated by case management or the detective division precisely to keep the real number of homicides hidden from prying eyes.
Homie gets shot, dies 2 hours later, that's an aggravated battery, not a homicide according to CLEAR.
In order to find the most current count of homicides occurring, whether they be Agg Batts or DI's that become Homicides, you need to access the Murder database maintained by the detective division. Good luck finding it, for one, then good luck getting into it to see the records because it's NOT available in CHRIS_DWH or Clear tables. This database is maintained OFF the publicly available list of tables on a separate PC and is NOT running in Oracle. So once you find it, you then need an account & password to access it, and after that, you have to wade through the mess that it is to obtain the numbers you seek.
I can say this, we were at 496 on 20 December 2008, add to that anything we see on the news and add on the Agg Batts where pookie dies a few hours later and you're as close as you'll get to the real number.
I have no problem saying we're already at, or will definitely be OVER 500 by the end of this year. No Problem.
