The $6,000 Dollar Man
Thirty-one video poker machines were confiscated today from several south suburban businesses during illegal gambling raids by the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
No arrests were made, but officials say they're looking to charge employees who gave illegal payouts to customers using the video poker machines.
Offenders would face a misdemeanor gambling charge and a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to a year in jail.
Vice officers confiscated machines from 10 businesses--including some gas stations and liquor stores--in Ford Heights, Markham, Midlothian, Chicago Ridge, Summit, Brookfield, McCook, Cicero and Justice.
A combined $6,472 in cash was seized from them, officials said.
We might be middle aged or even old farts, but we remember when various Vice Units used to take down a wire room or two and sweep up at least that much in cash and a few million in "betting slips" for the media to "oooh" and "aaah" over. But the Outfit told Daley to stop doing that, so he told the Department to knock it off.
We don't want to brag, but we happened to score big on a reverse square last night and ended up with some expensive "matchsticks." Very expensive "matchsticks." We think they're made of a rare California redwood or sequoia or something. We certainly hope Best Buy accepts "matchsticks" in exchange for a new surround sound system.

I guess these establishments didn't contribute to the dart election fund... I see he's a tough guy carrying those scary poker machines out in front of the cameras. As members of the CCSPD, we know all about it. We are embarrassed by this man.

As a Sergeant, my job is to ensure that my people dont get hurt or in trouble. 27 years on the job, 7 as a Sergeant and still counting; I have kept up my end of the deal. My people go home safe, whole and unindicted every night. In return they deliver policework to the people of our service areas.
As the Sergeant, I have control over many things. This episode I can not control.

More value for the Todster's taxes on us citizens of Crook County.
The sheriff most likely spent more than that $6k in overtime, alcohol expenses, and poker machine money expended. The vice cops had to most likely spend a lot of time sitting on those bar stools in gin mills to make the misdemeanor cases.
The SAO always has a pool going.
Hey screw the patronage police, all they do if screw over the white middle class, go after the dope dealers in Maywood, Bellwood, East Chicago Heights,Robbins, Dixmoor and the unincorporated areas of Cook County.
Tom Dart used to always get in the pools when he was an ASA. The pool at 31st street is a great one, and the deputies pool at 26th St is good paying off a thousand a quarter.
