- Should Illinois residents be allowed to carry a concealed weapon?
On the noon news, the results were 90% yes, 10% no.
At 9pm, the results were 77% yes, 22 % no.
An unscientific poll by all means, but possibly the hint of a fundamental shift in attitudes toward firearms for personal protection. Part of it is a rejection of the liberal group-think that all firearms are evil. Part is undoubtedly a realization that citizens must be responsible for their own safety. And part might be that 520-plus murders in Chicago points to the blindingly obvious fact that police are short handed, can't be everywhere and Chicago is a dangerous place to be.

Daley has no idea how assinine he sounds when speaking about guns. He thinks he knows it all while being surrounded by armed guards 24hrs a day. Chicago has had the most strict laws in the country against gun ownership and we still lead in gun involved homicides. Unless this asshole bans the fuck-holes pulling the trigger, nothing will change.
Looks like King Richard will be stressed again. "Oh no, we don't need guns." Better buy that bullet proof vest before going grocery shopping.
Obviously the gun control laws that Chairman Daley has pushed into law are not effective.

Serious question: what good would this change be since handguns are still illegal in the city? Given that we are already different from the rest of the state I just don't see how this would make a difference in my life.

Most Illinois politicians, including Governor Pat Quinn, would never--and that's a long time--approve a license to carry law like the one in Indiana or Missouri.

Let's get this CCW law on the 2010 ballot. We are the ones who are supposedly in charge of this Illinois government. Hence the reason we are the sheepdog watching over the sheep, protecting them from the wolves of society. I and all other law enforcement officers chose this career path knowing we will be able to carry a weapon at all times. This is a great responsibility. I am all for people owning guns but against concealed carry no matter how stringent the qualifications. You want to carry a gun, become the police; if not too bad. If this ever comes to fruition, your vest might be your best friend, that and good shooting skills. The term "justifiable homicide" will roll off peoples tongues as easy as "Bailout"!

48 other states prove you wrong. You have no concern with law-abiding citizens as it's been proven that the average CCW carrier is more law-abiding statistically than non-CCW holders without criminal records.
You have nothing to fear from people who are on your side and what you profess is downright dangerous! Can you tell me where in the 2nd it says anything about bearing arms being a "privilege"? It's a right. Driving is a privilege - the govt can take DL's away but they cannot abridge the right to bear arms except by due process (as in, criminal proceedings, conviction, etc.).
