Whoops
A body was found today in the trunk of a vehicle in a city-owned auto pound on the city's South Side, police said.
The body was found at about 5:30 p.m. at the lot at 10300 S. Doty Ave. in the Pullman neighborhood, said Officer John Henry.
He said the case is a death investigation, pending results of an autopsy.
He could not provide further information.
Candid Camera might be a good thing, catching the S&S guys' face when he pops the trunk and finds a stiff.

IT MAKES U WONDER HOW OFTEN THEY GO INSIDE CARS!
JUST TO CHECK OUT THE INSIDE AND SNAG ANY FREE-BEES!
It was a D. O. A. "Au Jus"!
Got into it today with this guy at work who swears that you can only check the trunk if its an impound. Can somebody else please back me up on this... If you tow the car, even for a tvb, you take possession of that vehicle and are responsible for checking the whole car, trunk included.
Out of curiosity, what need is there for a streets & sanitation employee to go into the trunk of a car? The employee must have had the best intentions because nothing is ever stolen out of a car in a city pound.
oh no, hope i didnt order that tow up.
Da crook be gettin' CREE-AY-TIV, ain't dey?
Or, maybe it was a HIT?
Oh, no, they aren't sllowed to do hits anymore in Chicago, are they?
"Rules, laws, what rules'n'laws you talkin' 'bout?" Supposed quote from Jimmy DeLeo (D-How you doin'?).
Gentlemen, keep trying to CLEAN IT UP, PLEASE?
Oh, I mean Chicago, not the blog!
So did the PO right "UNK" when listing the vehicle's contents, or did it itemize the stiff in the trunk, just wondering....
The dead body box is on the tow report right next to the spare tire box.
One more reason to do less.
Did they check his pockets to see if he had the money to pay for the tow?
no foul...if the car was towed without keys....for example car is parked on the street then the car is towed...the vehicle search is performed at the auto pound..hence vehicle impoundment search....vehicle inventory report is completed at auto pound...no foul here....
Im a old house mouse now and am unsure about this scenario. If we are towing a car do we have a right to check the trunk if we have the keys???

Many years ago a S/S tow driver clued me in on a trick they used on tows.Write UTO (unable to open)
in the section where it asks for
contents in the trunk, and whats under the hood,(batteries etc).I
used it for years and never had a problem.
Retired........and loving it.

The vehicle was towed from the 3rd District on 24 Jan 2009 at 1600hrs by an Officer V. Richardson who had TBV'ed the driver and impounded the vehicle.

MAYBE IT SMELLED "FUNNY" ?
.
If you leave anything in a car make sure you document it on the tow report.
there were no keys with the vehicle ... hence the P.O. or the auto pound could check the trunk ... I hear family members showed up with keys at the pound ...
Bet that 14 year old wouldn't have missed the body when he wrote it
Funny shit.
I think they should have "Dead Body In Trunk" as one of those boxes on the tow report.

Well it's on the TOW form...you have to put a check mark in all the boxes...it's an official police document...
Yep! Death investigation? This guy open up the trunk, crawl in, curled up and drop dead....sounds like a natural death to me, must have suffocated!!!
NOW HEAR this! A new D.S.O. will come out on how you have to inventory everyhting inside the trunk or vehicle now. Supervisors will be held responsible to ensure this gets done...Right after I get through station security and find a supervisor available! That is all!
sounds like a AREA 3 job. everything there is a Death Investigation
Spare Tire: check
Radio: check
Sun Roof: dna
Hub Caps Missing: one (01)
Dead Body In Trunk: unk

By law you can check the entire vehicle, trunk included when you take custody of it in order to inventory personal items.
Body in the trunk?? And they're carrying it as a death investigation? At this rate, murders will once again be on the decline in no time.
Upon identification storage fees will be applied....Yes we did!!!
It depends on why the car was towed. If it was a common tow like ABANDONED, HAZARD or BOOT TOW then there is no reason for anyone to search the car. Only to do a visual inventory of its condition. IE, radio missing, broken windows etc. Of course any tow that involves a police action would allow a search of that auto to assess any other illegal activities. Once in the impound system IF the car is not claimed or removed by the registered owner within the state regulated time period then that veh is either sold at auction or crushed for scrap depending on its age. (more than 5yrs its scrap) The final day before auction or scrap sale the veh MUST be searched and all tags removed and returned to the state of origin. This includes popping trunks and pulling seats. That way no illegal items (kilos of dope, guns, dead bodies etc are unknowingly sold or crushed with the car. Sounds like this is what may of occurred. Sale day search. The police dept used to handle those years ago. No More. Average sales had 50 to 100 cars in them. Thats a lot of trunks to punch.
if you are taking a car, yes you can go in trunk. you can go into any compartment of the vehicle. read the ridiculous shit you must check for on the bottom of the tow report. in the paper write it as an inventory search of vehicle revealed.....you have to go in to check for spare tire, personal property etc...your coworker is an asshat
He was probably going into the trunk to steal something
Pretty sure it was an investigation by the Cicero Police on a missing person that led to the pound. The body was not found just by accident by S&S.
whitey bulger???
LOL....LOL
WELL YOU BETTER BELIEVE WE ALL WILL BE CHECKING TRUNKS NOW!!! BECAUSE THE DEAD ARE POPPING UP EVERYWHERE.
GARBAGE CANS
WOODEN CHEST TRUNKS
UNDER VIADUCTS
VEHICLE TRUNKS AND THR LIST CONTINUES
just write a big "UNK" across the bottom of the tow reports......
his wrists and mouth were duct taped, but its a death investigation, such bull shit.

IT'S CALLED THE CRIME INDEX CREATIVE REPORTING METHOD. BASED ON THE PHIL CLINE MODEL THAT PROVED SO SUCCESSFUL DURING HIS TENURE.
Sound like an IAD integrity check and the Officers failed.... It was a PLANT!
Remember to inventory those bodies in the trunk on the ETRACK!
