Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of "shovel-ready projects" to spend federal economic stimulus funds on should Congress approve a plan.
Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public.
"Yes, we do, we have our list, we've been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart," Daley said.
In other words, just give him the money and he'll make sure it ends up in the right pockets. Don't look too closely at the connected firms the money ends up at. There's a whole bunch of change coming from Washington don't you know?

What about the Mayor's gerrymandering of ward and congressional districts to reflect Hispanic majorities? This is how LAPA and HDO grew to be the power they are, this is why the Mayor will win every election, this is why Chicago is a sanctuary city, this is why illegal aliens are allowed to vote in Chicago, this is why your taxes keep skyrocketing in Chicago.

On Wendesday, January 14th, 2004 the Chicago City Council adopted an Ordinance that amended the 2001 Chicago Ward map to settle a Federal lawsuit brought by the Polish American Congress.
Tn that lawsuit, the Polish American Congress stated that the 2001 Chicago ward redistricting map and its process had violated the First Amendment of the US Constitution, the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, the 15th Amendment of the US Constitution and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The Polish American Congress opposed the new redistricting map as to the 30th Ward because the new ward boundaries splintered the Polish ethnic community of interest among 4 different wards. By purposely creating a Latino majority in the new 30th ward, the focus on race injured the community of interest by minimizing the effective representation of Polish ethnic interests on the City Council. Other harms inflicted on the Polish community included the removal of Polish churches and businesses from the 30th ward and the potetntial cuts of ward services to the Polish immigrant group.
The case was heard by Federal District Court Judge Milton Shadur who agreed that the equal protection rights of the residents were violated when Chicago used race as the predominant factor in the determination of the ward's boundaries.
The Ordinance authorizes a series of boundary changes that paves the way for the lawsuit to be dropped. It also provides for St. Hyacinth Basilica to be moved back into the 30th Ward where much of the once-formidable Polish community is still concentrated.
Commenting on the actions of the City Council, Polish American Congress President Edward J. Moskal felt vindicated - "We knew all along that the horse-shoe shaped ward was gerrymandered so as to splinter the voice of the Polish American community. It's a historic moment for us as we build together a foundation for the future."
The Polish American Congress was represented by Chicago Attorney Greg Kulis, and assisted by National Executive Director Les Kuczynski in crafting the novel legal arguments that helped the court reject the city's plea to dismiss the case.
This city and our beloved Mayor Richard Daley is screwed up beyond belief. Socialism is coming and along with it will be about a 75% tax rate.

There just is no other way given 1) the miserable state of finances of the City and 2) the shrinking business base within the City that he can no longer lean on. This stimulus package is a gold mine. Its cotton comes to Harlem! As a frequent citizen reader, I'm starting to understand the contempt of most, hatred of a few of you and your hopelessness that there will ever be postive change within your department. The politicans dump on you whenever possible, the court system is in the crapper and most important of all, the citizens (and press) who should support you don't and are more likely than not to work against you. Federal Stimulus package: media reported that new proposals to save money are by adding more to education and less for police budgeting. Thats amazing. Schools closing or merging and more money is needed for that. Police shortfall should wake a lot of people up. Change is on the way for sure!!! guess who is on the revising changes??? Daley's way is not the right way at all. His shovel really means what? Is he going to create thousands of jobs for his citizens or just continue to play his ego to himself. We got a definte problem here.
why doesnt the media look into why mill. park ran 3xs over cost? maybe all the work done by the minority contractors was crap and had to be redone?
Why cant our union be more proactive in lawsuits like this? Instead of wasting money, time and resources on John Burge,the SOS clowns (TS, JF, KH and CS) or pension portability, why cant they be more proactive in these types of lawsuits??? Anyways, enjoy!

To the genius Cmdr of 002. I'm all for station security, but having 2 cops (one at each door with a desk checking ID's) is ridiculous. If the city wont put a key card system in, then simply lock the south door and post one PO by the lock up entrance. Then all po/dets etc can enter there...At least you wont be tying down 2 po's who could be working the street..

This is Ike Carother's girl, that is why his brother Tony Carothers, who just informed us that he will be getting a Command soon works as the Tact Lt., though he has never worked tact! This she man worst than Capt. White, the only difference is she has no brains to back it up! Yes, she confirmed Tony's statements and happily told us why Ike took it easy on the Superintendent, because he will get something in return.
You could see right through it. How could you be at a hearing with the Alderman who help govern our department and the biggest story in years hit involving the 3rd in Command and not ONE word during the hearing! Come on Ike, who are you representing and who's best interest does you have in hand. It is surely not me!

What we need people in Chicago to realize is that Daley is worse than Bush is. We need that hatred people had for Bush to be imposed upon Daley. I can't find a single person that likes him. So who is supporting him? And why do people support the Olympics? No one even watches that shit and the ratings prove it.
I still don't see the hatred for Bush, we were attacked, led a proper response,probably should have waited on Iraq, but we were going to be there for sure anyway, the economy in the tank after the attack, came back roaring and stayed that way, even in a time of war, until 2008, when all the warnings of the impending real estate crash, which were ignored, finally came home to roost. The stock market posted record gains during those times.
Don't blame the economy on Bush, blame the Democratic Congress and their insistance to give everyone and anyone a loan for a house, people that never should have gotten a loan in the first place. Now with the new Stimulus package you can plainly see the democratic mind at work, spend spend spend, tax tax tax, that's really gonna stir the economy into recovery, some of the things in that bill are good, alot are nonsense pet projects and pork, that was supposed to be a thing of the past, according to our new President, appearently not.
History will judge Bush, and i'm sure it will judge him fine.
Remember, the only approval rating lower than Bush, was this Democratic Congress of Nancy Pelosi and Co.

The Hegewisch pothole problem is unbielivable. Brainard Av is so bad that the whole neighborhood shakes when the trucks bounce by.
Daley will never get his.... That's why Blago was taken early, to save the king and the annointed one.
Daley gave away some very lucrative assets with out the people even knowing about it. No popular vote, just the council who he has in his pocket. How is this possible? It's mind boggling.

Texas is a "right to work state", the HPD union did an outstanding job sticking up for the officers! When I was at HPD we had "Racehorse Haynes" as our Union attorney. It was ATTACK! any time a union member was complained on...and that included targeting supervisors.
When I came to CPD, I had visions of aggressive union thugs enforcing workers rights LOL HA!
Now I just read stories of REAL unions, and sigh. The word "hopeless" comes to mind when I think of...oh never mind

I agree with most of your post. My only complaint about Bush was that he could/should have been much more aggressive in fighting Congress about Freddie/Fannie. It is well documented that he disagreed with them, but he kind of rolled over and let them have their way. It is just possible that at that time he could have avoided this mess.
It's apparent Daley wouldn't give out the 'shovel-ready' list because THERE ISN'T ONE.
This isn't rocket science. He missed the deadline for a huge Federal grant for the CTA. He can't answer the simplest of questions about the city at a press conference without a script in his hand. He's a tad underprepared for everything lately. The old man NEVER would have let this happen.
I bet he's got the little squirrels burning the midnight oil in the City Hall basement, trying to put a list of the clout-heavy companies and the 'necessary' projects together. We'll end up with our own 'bridge to nowhere' before you know it. Just be patient.
