Chalkie Going Big Time

The mainstream press is picking up on it. First Zorn in the Sunday Trib:
  • Many readers were enthusiastic about "Chalkie," an outline of the body of a murder victim holding the Olympic torch. That idea first appeared at the SecondCityCop blog and now has its own Web site, where enthusiasts can order souvenir hats and T-shirts.
Then the American Thinker blog picks up on Zorn's column. Hopefully it gains some steam.

Remember, a portion of the sales of all the Chalkie T-shirts goes to the Hundred Club of Cook County. Show your support and piss off the mayor, all at the same time.

As much as I like Chalkie, don't forget Eric Zorn is a HUGE police hater. Many years ago a Town Hall cop shot and killed an assailant who tried to stab him in the neck with a fork, justified shooting. Several years ago a deranged lunatic came into the front desk of 023 with a 10 inch blade in hand and tried to kill a mass transit officer standing on the civilian side of the desk using the phone, only quick reflexes saved that copper's life and it was another justified shooting. Do you know what Eric Zorn's column read after the second incident? This is not verbatim, but the content is on target. First one Town Hall officer kills a suspect wielding a fork, now one with a knife, will the next kill a suspect with a spoon to make the table setting complete. Not long after that, Eric along with other media members were treated to a media day at the academy where they took part in some of the training. His attitude after that: I have a little more understanding of the police, but I'm still right. He is yet another reason why I'm glad I don't subscribe to the Tribune anymore.

this is more a marketing ploy by the 'chalkie' creator than a real legitimate attempt to be a benefactor to the 100 club. It sort of creates a bulletproof defense for the negativity. I'm sure that he has made a lot more $$$ off the concept than the 100 club will ever see, (not that that's a bad thing).

while 100 club of cook cty IS a good cause, I expect its multi-bazillionaire benefactors are cringing at any publicity 'chalkie' is getting by attaching itself to their organization. they work in the stratosphere of millions of dollars. 'chalkie' has donated 700 bucks, not even enough to cover a weeks worth of their postage stamps.

keep in mind that many of these folks have connections to the daley crime family that has helped them attain their untold fortunes. the last thing they want is to have the 100 clubs' good name and reputation used to smear richie's pet project, chicago 2016.

"Chalkie in my opinion is really stupid, even if it helps make $ for the hundred club, it still represents a killing of someones loved one, even if the victim is a piece of garbage he/she still was a human life, say what u will but i still think its kinda demonic

3/03/2009 12:39:00 AM"

Chalkie is an iconic representation of the consequences that result from the following realities:

1. Mayor Richard M. Daley, and his crew of self serving minions, (including, but not limited to, his blood relatives, the blood relatives of his various cohorts, his, and their, associates, supporters, back room deal participants, etc.), consistently, for the entire duration of his terms as Mayor, engaging in the gross mismanagement of our city's governmental functions, and blatant and egregious pilfering of our city's financial assets, for his, and their, personal gain.

2. The above ongoing mismanagements and pilferings have resulted in various areas of our city, and county essential public services being grossly neglected, with the most damaging neglected and mismanaged area being our law enforcement services, ie., the Chicago Police Department. (for further, specific details, review the archives of this blog.)

3. Furthermore, this pattern of neglect, mismanagement and pilfering has also adversely affected our Judicial services, both city and county, resulting in the painful and harmful absence of an effective, efficient and beneficial adjudication of the laws relevant to what the iconic Chalkie represents.

4. The aforementioned mismanagements and pilferings have also resulted in the continuing lack of positive results from our city's public education service, namely, the Chicago Public Schools. (for further specific details, review the archives of this blog.)

5. In addition, the residents of certain areas of our city appear to possess little to no respect for the basic laws which we consider to be the minimum required to be respected, if a civilized society is to exist, prosper and flourish. Said lack of respect may have a substantial portion of it's roots in the previously mentioned mismanagements and pilferings, as well as the natures and characteristics of the residents involved.

6. The 'torch' part of the Chalkie icon represents the most current example of the Daley crew's attempts to continue to mismanage this city's government and pilfer from this city's taxpayer funded coffers.

7. Finally, the Chalkie icon is a symbol of the gross stupidities, self aggrandizing attitudes, blatant acceptances of corruptions, and, apparently, close to total apathy displayed by the citizens of our city and county, in their continuing pathetic acceptance of the aforementioned mismanagements and pilferings.

Much like the historic Skull and Crossbones icon, the Chalkie iconic symbol proclaims, to any who will listen, that the spirit of piracy is alive and well, and being practiced by the very individuals whom the citizens have elected, and continue to reelect, to this city and county's government offices.

That spirit of piracy, and the tolerating of it, is what is demonic.

Don't shoot the messenger, please.

regarding Eric Zorn

Once he was writing about the Wilmette resident who shot a home invader in his house.

This offender took the victim's car which had the keys on it and returned to the victim's house that night for more.

The home owner shot the offender twice, unfortunately no where vital so he survived.

As an aside, this offender after being released from prison committed another home invasion in Wilmette several years later

I got in an email pissing match with Eric about the homeowner's right to self defense and how thw victims children who were home at the time look to their father to protect them etc

Eric Zorn is a piece of crap.

I also know and worked with that Town Hall guy who had the unfortunate situation with the guy with the fork, as I spent over 17 years assigned to 023.

Believe me. That officer had zero choice but to fire his gun that day or face serious injury

In his nearly 30 years on the job that was the one and only time he discharged a round besides on the range, and you never heard a peep out of him

I enjoy the Tribune crosswords and John Kass, but I may cancel my subscription after rethinking the Zorn situation.

After I get the free copy from the trucks or receive more than one from the box for .50....

I usually enjoy using the Tribune for several things:

1. Lighting the paper in my fireplace at home to get the updraft going through the flew(sp)

2. lining boxes for moving so not to break dishes and glass

3. throwing the bundle out of the sqaud car window on the city street just to see the mess it makes

4. lining the kitchen or box for whatever pet I have at the time

5. not much else .....

Newspapers are a thing of the past and mean little to the common person. The Tribune ought to think about downsizing their staff SAVING MONEY and just go online! Get rid of the useless dead weight and make some money again!

More people are scamming free papers or just reading what is laying around and or given away!
