No More Excuses (UPDATES!)

Even the weather is cooperating:
  • Thursday... Cloudy. Slight chance of rain in the morning...then rain likely in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 40s. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
Looks like protest time will be decent enough for marching. We will try to update as possible. Anyone taking pictures, e-mail them to us and we'll post the good ones.

Good luck and we'll see you there.

UPDATE: We're going to try something never before attempted in the history of SCC - updates from the scene. Actually, we tried it once, but it was a crime scene, it was busy, it was impossible. This might not be. The only trouble is, we can't really check e-mail or post pics live. Our uniform allowance we mean salary economic reality doesn't allow us to afford a really snazzy phone. Anyway, we're headed over to the 001 parking lot, then a free CTA ride. Good thing we've got that parking permit so Sergeant Deputy doesn't tow the car.

UPDATE: Talk from the scene, word is the 008 District bus had to go back for seconds, there were so many people.

UPDATE: Talk from the scene, 016 reports almost 100 people at Habetler Bowl when the bus arrived.

UPDATE: The picket line reaches reaches all the way around City Hall. Laugh that one off Shortshanks. A number of coppers are saying that Goudie's hit job on behalf of the mayor was the last straw. Thanks Chuck!

UPDATE: WBBM is saying "thousands" of police. Seeing as how the Police Department always overestimates crowd sizes for special events and the media underestimates if the mayor tells them to, we're comfortable saying the crowd is in excess of 2,000. Anyone from FOP doing a head count?

UPDATE: Live Pic!
Send what you got. We'll get to what we can.

UPDATE: More pics:Off to Daley Plaza - the crowd is so big it's moving in fits and spurts.

UPDATE: Channel 7 says "a few hundred"

Evidently, Channel 7 is full of shit again, from Goudie on down.

Lets face it, there are no real reporters left in this city !

Finally we are not separated by gender, race, units, clout, rank. DALEY has SHIT on us all at once. FUCK HIM, how about we sue to be able to live lets say 20 miles outside the city. Lets, see what happens to the tax base in Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Chatham, Pill Hill, Hegwish, Garfield Park, and thats just on the south side. How about we all take time off using what little FLSA time we have, because non FLSA time can be denied after the suit is finallized. How about we all go to school and have the city pay for it. HOW about we all refuse to work special, at the airport, and CTA for one week. That will hurt our pockets, but remember a little monetary pain is nothing compared to letting mumble mouth know that we are very much needed. Remember our safety when responding to shooting. Drive at a safe speed, and remember they don't pay us to aggressively police, that is no longer a respected police policy. Tickets, impounds, ANOV's generate money for the city that is headed by a person who could give a fuck about us. Lastly, my family has been told if i meet the messenger of death in the line of duty that LITTLE BASTARD is not to speak at my Funeral, nor is the FBI SAC who is now impersonating a CPD officer, only a CPD boss who has been a police officer that graduated the Academy, and was at one point a PPO.
Be SAFE, and see you Today at City Hall.

This is from a previous thread but dead on:

Just a couple of simple questions...ever had a gun pointed at you at work??? Ever been shot at??? Ever been bitten by a rabid, AIDS infested crackhead??? ever been in a knock down dragout brawl for your life, then been second guessed by every Monday morning quarterback for "using too much force" to save your damn life??? No!!! And I'll bet you make more money, and have better benefits, for doing 20 hours of work per week. Must be nice to live in complete safety, and constantly question those who you could not possibly survive without, yet could not possibly take the place of...how do you jackals sleep at night???

I wish I would have thought of this earlier...

We should have got some guy who is a giant, someone who is head and shoulders above everbody in a crowd...

Dress him in a black full body leotard, with mittens and a full coverage hood, and outline the whole outfit with 2 inch reflective tape, hand him the American Flag and do a high-steppin' march...CHALKIE LEADS THE PARADE!!

Now that would make the front page!

I may make that costume for my kid at Halloween.

-----------------------------------

Almost fair? I watched it and I don't remember it being fair at all. If by adding the firemen to the story to "balance" it out and not make it like a pure police bashing story, it wasn't even that.

In fact, the use of the word "fair" would be incorrect. That so-called I-Piece Investigation was totally one sided from a journalistic point of view. My god! That editing room must of sounded like the floor of the old stock yards what with all the cutting that must have gone on.

Well boys and girls, nothing is ever going to change in this town, until the back of the machine is broken and honest people are elected into the city government. That is simply not going to happen unless the personal safety of decent candidates can be assured. Every election, who runs against the mayor ? A storefront minister, a former terrorist, a clown. Why doesn't anyone electible run ? Because they would be run out of town on a rail if they tried. Do you think the fed is going to do anything to stop the corruption ? Who got Obama elected and who bought themselves four more years of a free hand to rape and pillage ? You know the answer to that question and you know that Fitzgerald is never going to come for Daley. All the feds are going to do is eliminate opposition to Daley as they have in the past.

If you want to win something tangible for yourselves and your children use your influence as community leaders to back honest government. Find people in your community to run for office against the corrupt machine. Support them and protect them from intimidation.

Mayor Daley will continue to lord over us as he always has as long as we let him.

City Hall Pay Hikes Pad Six-Figure SalariesChicago Reader lists pay raises for city's managers

The city's broke, but City Hall managers are still taking home a healthy paycheck.

It's widely known that jobs are being cut at Chicago's City Hall, which means there are fewer people for department managers to manage, although not necessarily less work for them to do.

Still, the Chicago Reader's Clout Street posted an interesting list of department heads, increases to their six-figure salaries and the number of staff members they've lost to budget cuts.

Related Stories
Dear IOC: Don't Pick Us
Of the top 67 earners on the city's payroll this month, 12 have received promotions since last August, the Reader reports. The other 55 didn't -- but 31 of them still received 3 percent raises, which worked out to between $4,320 and $5,160 each per year.

No wonder we're paying more to park at the meters around town.

Why bother. No matter what is said about this job and those who do it, we will always hear the choir sing "That's the job.....if you don't like it quit."

You know no one likes the police....UNTIL THEY NEED US. Once the problem goes away they want us to go away.

We stop writing parkers and ANOVS and what happens? The city wants to hire armed guards to patrol business areas and write parkers and ANOVS.

The only way to stop all this is for Fitzgerald to indict that sanctimonious POS otherwise known as da mayor. And maybe take some of those alderthieves with him.

God, please let me live to see the day when Daley gets indicted. I see him acting like Ryan; "I'm too old and too sick to go to prison." That will truely be a good day.

You did get a fair shake from Fox News, better estimates and current photos.

I took a hike downtown today and was pleased to see the turnout that arrived at city hall.Great Job to all you men and women that attended. Channels 2 and 32 gave everyone a decent shake. The other turds suck. I retired as a sergeant and I'm truly ashamed of the stance the hacks at the sergeant's union took. Way to divide the ranks even more, assholes. For the sergeants that attended you are to be commended and need to unseat your reps or lack there of. Stay safe out there and I hope you get what you deserve.

Just got back from the march what a beautiful turnout. We got there at about 1030 and the building was already surrounded. How insignificant was that? Keating, Daley's bitch constantly on the phone giving his updates. Saw Fran Spielman, damn she looked like death warmed over in that tan trench coat. Neil Steinberg, what a weasel looking little fucker. Tried to engage one of our guys in conversation until I told him don't talk to that fucking wife beater. Fuck you Neil! Good showing by the Chaplains and some of the bosses, wont call you out but we know who you are the good one's. Thanks everyone for showing up!

A great showing by PO's, SGT's, LT's, retired CPD, family and all others. We rocked their world. At least 3000-4000 showed. We are united. Sex, race and age was not in the crowd. It was all blue. Let Shortshanks play this down. There are thousands of pictures and video showing the real number. FYI, Ald. Beale's office # is 773-785-1100. Just in case anyone wants to call him and thank him.
We were all going to call at the same time on my bus. Whoever was knocking the march and going for the under, the special today at your local restaurant is CROW. To all my fellow marchers, what a great showing. But we had fun. Worth the few hours. Let's get another one going at Shortshank's house.

Despite the medias Pavlovian lap dog response, we were most definitely heard and seen where it counts. A few Alderman and their staff were definitely taking notes. A supportive brother from the CFD: I was at the rally today at City Hall. Thanks to everyone that took the time, to say enough is enough. The crowd size was unbeleiveable. The next time, it will be even bigger, if Da Mayor is sitting back, not giving a shit to our rally today. Its about time, that we finally stand up to Da Mayor for what is right. He is using the economy in his favor, to say we should just be glad that we have a paycheck. What happened Da Mayor 2 years ago, when our contracts expired on the CPD and the CFD when the economy was good? With my 25+ years on the job, i never once received a contract that was not retroactive, and expired 2 months after Daley was re-elected. Then we starved for 4 years again, and sucked his nuts literally to get another contract.I hope 2011 means "CHANGE." The rein on City Hall since 1989 must come to an end. Its time for a mayor, who has, fresher, new ideas for this city, other then dumping taxpayer money on something that might happen in 2016, instead of worrying about the problems this city faces today. Examples on wasted taxpayer money: Illegal hirings, illegal contract giveaways, illegal promotions. Lawsuits were filled time and time again, only for the city to pay out millions. And the best part of it all, the still continue to operate this way. a salute goes out today, for all those who took the time off, to make the rally. Be safe out there. Do your job as if a camera is looking over you, every bit of your tour/shift, because most likely, a camera is.

The Slum Times says the final count was around 3,600.

When you figure in the actual manpower numbers that the city hides from the media, that's about 40% of the entire CPD and more than half of the patrol division.

I knew we were disgruntled, but this was amazing. This is the first time in my 2+ decades on the job where everybody is finally on the same page in total unity.

Great job, Officers!

In the same vein, since ABC 7 Chicago is reporting only a few hundred CPD are picketing, I don't suppose it would take more than 50 off-duty CPD to fill the window out front of their State Street location for a few days for Chuckie and Shortshanks to get the message?

NOW A FOLLOW UP HAS TO BE DONE,
THE EMAILS,LETTERS, PHONE CALLS,
TO THE LAW MAKERS, AS STATED BEFORE
START WITH ALDERMEN, CALL THEIR OFFICE, HAVE YOUR WIFE/HUSBAND CALL
HAVE VOTING AGE CHILDREN CALL, YOU ALL HAVE A FRIEND OR TWO THAT ARE
NOT PO, THEY MUST BE SYMPATHETIC,IF THEY ARE TRULY FRIENDS.
CMON YOU YOUNGER PO,YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER TO DO THIS STUFF, USE THE MOMENTUM...

MOBILIZE, YOURSELVES, THE FOP WILL
ONLY DO SO MUCH, SO YOU HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF, BECAUSE FOP WILL NOT HIRE A LOBBYIST...
PUBLIC SUPPORT., MOST IMPORTANT...
I DON'T KNOW A ORGANIZATION,THAT COULD START A CITIZENS PETTION MOVEMENT, BUT I'M SURE SOMONE MARCHING TODAY DOES OR KNOWS SOME ONE THAT DOES, THERE MUST BE CITIZENS ON YOUR BEATS THAT ARE SYMPATHETIC OF THE SITUATION...ACTIVISM,IS WHAT GETS
THINGS DONE...

MABE YOUR CHURCH, VFW PTA,AND SO FORTH...

TURN NON SUPPORTERS, INTO SUPPORTERS, AND THAT IS DONE ONE ON ONE...

IF THE MOVEMENT STOPS HERE, THE WHOLE THING STOPS...

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS, YOU WILL NOT
LOOSE ANY THING, BUT YOU WILL NOT GET A RAISE...

KEEP IT TOGETHER, YOU THAT MARCHED TODAY, I'M SURE YOU TALKED A LOT ABOUT THINGS, BUT TALKING ALONE DOES NOT GET THE JOB DONE...

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...

TO SCC READERS THAT ARE NOT PO, AND ARE NOT HATERS, HELP OUT, YOUR VOICE COUNTS TOO...

I HOPE FOR ALL OF OUR SAKE, THIS
DOES NOT STOP...

IT'S YOUR DAY NOW...
IT'S YOUR TIME NOW...

4/01/2009 08:00:00 PM

I got a mouth full of infected blood spit in my face during a domestic around 15 years ago. Now my liver is very sick with the hepatitis I contracted that day. And the wondrful CPD denied my IOD.

Firefighters have those things considered line of duty, we have to prove who, what, when, where and how.

That's just a small part of why we deserve a decent raise and benefits. Another 5-7 years and my doctor says I will be looking at a liver transplant.

Any stupid fuck that questions what we do ought to have the nerve to just try to do what we do day in and day out. Then try it while sick with chronic hepatitis. I only hope I still have health insurance when I am retired and my liver goes.

A Big Thanks also to the good Rabbi and Fr. for being out there and showing your support.

kudos to wbbm newsradio for airing a great bit (craig dellemore) and believe it or not if you read jay levines at the cbs2 website he put alot of info out there to get our word out.

what a great turnout but it shouldnt stop or end here.

keep it up , lets take it to the next level.

no contract, how about BLUE FLU.

i want to thank the mayor and some of the aldermen for tipping our hands and not supporting us. what a great message they have sent to the bustouts and gang bangers they want us to protect citizens. shame on you idiots.

and this goes out to john pallohusky of the sgt association , you are a coward and a pussy. your statement should have been one of going neither way if you werent going to be man enough to stand up not to say no support. john you re a coward and a pussy.

thanks to the sgts who did walk shoulder to shoulder with us.

lets talk about taking it to the next level. after what i saw today the sky is the limit.

and excuse me mr mayor and his puppet jfed this isnt about cash its about manpower and equipment and lastly money. you may think you can smoke screen some of the media and all of us coppers but you are wrong.

the blood of the officer who had his life taken from him at belmont and western is on your hands because of the lack of manpower you have on the street.

shame on you both for not supporting the men and women that protect you and your families while you sleep.

you will have to explain your actions when you go before your maker and i am sure he will not be impressed.

great job all.

and to those truckers who were blowing the air horns for us thanks much.

today was a victory for us and lets ride this wave until we resolve this

proud to be a chicago police officer and proud to have marched with you all today.

The OIC is staying at the Fairmont Hotel in case anybody wants to know. By the way CPD escort officers were instructed to have no communication or contact with the OIC members.

And the security provided to the members is from a private security firm, the same firm that is owned by an alderscum's brother.

Hey Fitzgerald please do something.

I'm on medical and despite my best efforts, can't be there but I'm proud to see the turnout on tv. (My family is there in my place) However can someone tell me why donahue is interviewed saying that we support the olympics and that they would be good for chicago? First, our protest has nothing to do with our opinions on the olympics. Second, last I checked most of us DON'T want them here. Way to go donahue...speaking bullshit for all of us...again.

4/02/2009 11:53:00 AM

Has your condition gone to your brain?

First, they edited the tape. It was not a subject DONAHUE brought up spontaneously. He was responding to a question posed by the reporter.

Second, the picketing was not about the IOC or the Olympics or ruining anything for the city and its citizens. DONAHUE wanted to make it very clear. It was about the city not negotiating with us in good faith and about us not having a contract for near 2 years, while, at the same time, the city has negotiated and hammered out a contract for near 20other unions.

Geesh, read between the lines, will you please? Or tell me you are a poser and are not the police! My faith would then be restored by knowing there are no members of my union that are that dumb!

Although to tell the truth, I would have preferred it be just about the contract. I thought the Weis thing was a distraction.

Local 2 Pres Ryan said it was not a good deal. The city was giving us our manning, medical, 16 1/2%. but what do they want to fuck with promotions, merit, things that will allways be there because thats the way this world works! So now what 9% maybe no back pay, medical twice as costly? and what does local 2 do today????? sit in the hall and hide so we dont piss off the mayor. while you guys stand up like men and women should do in this country!

If I get a bunch of coffeedrinkers to protest the price of Starbuck's Coffee outside the Bean in Millenium Park, do you think they will lower the price. Gotta go, must organize that.

4/02/2009 08:54:00 AM

I doubt you will organize anything. From your words, it is evident, you are merely a sniper that uses snippy comments in a futile attempt to be insulting. I do not believe you have the intestinal or testicular fortitude to stand up for any worthwhile cause. Now shrink back into the woodwork little person, and let the adults do the heavy lifting. You know no one likes the police....UNTIL THEY NEED US. Once the problem goes away they want us to go away.
-----------------------------------
The thing is cops represent government first, last, and always. Much of the time the reason people "need" you is a consequence of something government did in the first place.

Most people just want to be left alone, which is a perfectly reasonable thing.

It does not help that government has decided that traffic and other citations should be a major source of revenue and have pushed the number of citations to insane levels by creating more and more infractions that can be charged. And then creating what amounts to a kangaroo court to adjudicate them. Is it any wonder after coming in contact with cops in such a manner most people come away with a bad taste in their mouth?

I'm soooo sick of the hypocrites at city hall. After the parking-meter fiasco and other Daley blunders, the public is finally becoming fed up, too. Stroger, Quinn and Daley will be history soon. It's time for new blood. These hacks gotta go!!!

4/02/2009 01:42:00 AM

Finally? Fuck him. The handling of the meters was horrible. Total money grab with NO concern or forethought as to how to transition without inconveniencing the people who have to use the meters. And of course "people" meaning us the taxpayers that fund it ALL.

First of all I would just like to personally THANK each and every officer who went out to the protest. Secondly while watching the "news" Jodie was on saying that moral isn't low because every time hes out there and theres a 10-1 call everyone responds???? Daaaaaaahhhhhh we only have each other and GOD help us with that response!!!!!

J-FUCK said on 4:30 newscast that if he was the cause of moral being down he would resign. He then goes on to say whenever he goes "out there" and sees officers reponding to 10-1's to help each other out he knows moral is not down...STUPID FUCK DOESNT REALIZE THAT "WE" DONT RUN AWAY WHEN AN OFFICER NEEDS HELP. WE BACK EACH OTHER UP NO MATTER WHAT!!!!! UNLIKE THE PUSSY "FEDS" THAT RAN AWAY AND LEFT AIRHART BEHIND!!!

ABC news must have some truly stupid reporters. They made a claim on the 4:30 news that "only a few hundred" police protesters appeared at City Hall. I don't know who they had there and how they came up with that number, but while I was there, the entire sidewalk was covered COMPLETELY AROUND THE CITY HALL BUILDING. That's a whole bunch of muthafukkin' cops!!
The worse part of the news was the latest soundbite from our lackluster Supt., who claimed that he sees "no evidence of low morale when he's on the streets." Maybe WEISel should roll out on the streets alone, like previous Supts., or with a driver only (leave the civilian ball lickers behind for one day sir!), and roll on some of the hot calls. He'd get his own "reality sound bite" quite quickly!! I guess it's time for the Mayor and WEISel to "join the real world!"

Mr. Weis,
I saw your press conference in a news clip on ABC 7 today. You have to know and understand one thing. Morale SUCKS! Do you HONESTLY think that you, The Super, would come to a district and do ride alongs, or what have you, and the PO's are going to bitch and moan about how bad the conditions are with the job? NO! They're going to be cordial towards you. You need to use your head on this. You're a boss and people are going to treat you as a boss. At any other job not many people are going to walk up to the CEO of the company they work for and tell them that they think he's doing a horse shit job or bitch about it. So to you it would seem that everything is hunky dory and that the troops are all happy and satisfied. We're not. We're 21 months without a contract, we've got part time aldermen up our asses and in our pocketbooks about our duty availability and uniform allowances that are provided to us by CONTRACT. (no hidden treasure there). Aldermen who are bitching are getting 6% raises while we're living pay check to pay check to raise our families and pay bills. But I'm sure you don't care since you're banking that $300K. Nice. Do you know what it's like to be shot at? Can you say that you do? You might make a trip once in awhile to a ghetto district and see a little bit, but we're dealing with it 6 days a week. There's no getting away from it for us. We want a fair shake. Daley needs to go look at what NY did for their police department. That would be nice if we could have it that way in Chicago. You need to look at the bigger picture. We're first responders and yet we're the last ones paid. How ironic. I think we're worth a little more than the embarrassing offer that was put out on the table. Of course we're not accepting it. The city is asking an awful lot of police officers when we're not even fairly compensated.

It was not about Olympics and our Union Rep P.O. Thigpen made sure we understood why we were there. THe younger p.o.'s needed to know. It was about our contract and our future. We pay taxes too and MUST live in this high ass city!! And try to work eight and go home in one piece. I was proud to be a CPD officer and see how we came togother.
