This was filmed this past weekend in front of St. Anthony's Hospital in the 010 District during the Cinco de Mayo festivities. Notice the parking sign directly about the hood of the Channel 2 News van.
We expect a full expose by Pam Zekman pointing out how the media is completely out of control, parking hither and yon without a care in the world, blocking ambulance loading/unloading zones and endangering the lives of innocent citizens.

Please tell me that if it were an on-duty copper that shot that video, he/she immediately hung the appropriate parking ticket on that van. And it that copper was off-duty, please tell me that a 010th district car was summoned to issue the citation. And if it were just a citizen, please tell me he/she called a beat car out to address this double-standard. Otherwise that video is all for naught in this city that controls the media.
I LOVE it!!! Time to turn the tables on these cock suckers. Don't let up now or anytime soon - keep snapping those pix for any and all infractions; and hang that fuckin' parker! Preferably more than one - there might always be an expired/missing plate, improperly displayed city sticker, etc. And keep submitting them for dissemination so the general public can see what time it is. Next time I'm the desk sergeant in a certain district...i'm going to sign out a parking book and write tickets to any media parked illegally. Just one question. If the media is parked in a police lot marked "police only"...how do i write it? It's on private property technically.

After the Jennifer Hudson triple homicide in 007, each watch had to sit on the house to protect it from the neighborhood and to make sure no one went inside. The media was parked EVERYWHERE (by this i mean in front of hydrants, in crosswalks). EVERY time we shifted cars and my car had to sit here, the media from channel 5 and 7 would come up to our window and ask "you guys aren't leaving, right?" We would be very polite and say no, we here all night. The people covering this story were petrified of their surroundings. Of course they would go on the air and give the usual story with the "peaceful" residents in prayer behind them.
The best though was when FOX was about to go live and a shootout started on Vincennes about a block away. The news crew ran like hell while we tried to leave. We TRIED because as we left, we got stopped TWICE by media begging us not to leave. We finally left and found numerous shell casings on Vincennes.When we returned to our post, the media wonks were more than happy to see us.
It's funny how useful I was when reality of the street hit. I was a saint to them as a protector. I was alright because I let them park wherever to get a story. But as soon as the vans left, the CPD were a bunch of lazy rulebreakers. I will always remember these same people though because, no matter what they report, how much they NEEDED the CPD at this time. It will never get reported, but they need us to do their job. Be nice if they'd say it

Coppers were saying that the media vans were parked in tow zones, loading zones, and bus stops around Devon and Western where that hit n run accident happened. I hope someone wrote them.

Is anyone aware of an ordinance that allows media to park temporarily in violations of signs. I could be wrong but I thought this was an ordinance at one time. I have seen them parked illegally all over in front of HQ.

The plumber working on pipes at the sears tower isnt allowed to park his van right out in front, lawyers arent allowed to just park in front of the court house when working there. The media can find legal parking also.

You can write them either for disobey signs because the signs say “Police Personnel Only” or there is a MCC charge for unauthorized personnel in a city lot. Either one covers it. These are the charges we use when an “unauthorized person” parks in our lot.
Sorry I don’t have the specific charges off hand.
Too bad we didn't photograph all those media vans in the 025 lot the day of the Abbate debacle! Those jagoffs were all parked in handicapped spots, no parking zones, and trying to access the back lot specifically stating "Police Personnel Only"! The fit the media had that day still makes me wanna puke, not too mention the Captain getting launched.

I dont work in a district but I write them all the time and never have gotten any blacklash from it. Sick of them always parking where ever they want.

When I went to pay my respects to the late great 1st Dep John Thomas I noticed a big Lexus with vanity plates, and a DRIVER parked on Cicero Ave in a no parking/standing zone. Well now you know what it must feel like to be judged as a whole fool. CPD is blamed as a whole and that is how the media will continue to be blamed. Fr Clemons bought a house in the 10200 block of St Louis in Evergreen Park, on the west side of the street, last year. I see him either going in or out about once a week, as I have a relative living nearby that I visit.

Let's see, a citywide crime pattern was put out, district cars were conducting missions in areas where armed robberies occurred. Districts briefed by the detective division. tact teams in affected district working the pattern, crimes reported in neighborhood papers-- yep sure sounds secret to me. maybe the only "special" one here is you. please post your phone number or e-mail address so we can personally notify you of everything going on in the city.

No Parking, Violation of signs.
If the news van is parked on a corner or within 25 feet of a drive way or alley, there is a parking violation for that too.
You can not park a truck or high profile vehicle within 25 feet of an intersection, alley or drive way. Have you ever tried to exit an alley or drive way and someone has parked a truck there. it blocks your view of traffic approaching that area.

I did not shoot the video, but it may be directly across from Holy Tony's Ambulance Entrance. I'd have to check the details. The Cinco Di Mayo encampment is directly behind them, and perhaps as the few seconds of video ends, is that an exempt's black Crown Vic coming into frame?

Next time I'm the desk sergeant in a certain district...i'm going to sign out a parking book and write tickets to any media parked illegally. Just one question. If the media is parked in a police lot marked "police only"...how do i write it? It's on private property technically.

No Parking, Violation of signs.
If the news van is parked on a corner or within 25 feet of a drive way or alley, there is a parking violation for that too.
You can not park a truck or high profile vehicle within 25 feet of an intersection, alley or drive way. Have you ever tried to exit an alley or drive way and someone has parked a truck there. it blocks your view of traffic approaching that area.

She is the ex-wife of Fed Judge James Zagel who was the head of Ill State Police in the 80s. Most recently noteworthy for telling Blago to pay attention to his trial instead of going on a reality show and before that for Family Secrets trial. Great guy who grimaces when reminded he was married to Pam.

i've seen some of the media talking heads dismounting from blue oval cvpi vehicles got up real clean like exempt rides so they can escape proper scrutiny at big scenes... if i catch one it will surely be a ticket and tow... hopefully on a summer night at 3am and it's still 100 degrees out and the bullets are flying thick and fast! you media-clowns better be fast runners or be able to make friends with the mouth breathers you've annointed kings of the city...

Last week i wrote a cltv van for rush hour parking at about 21st pl and Damen. No back lash so far.

So what. I haven't gone thru a day without hearing some Sgt get on the air asking for "courtesy parking" for some church, school, or "special" group.
You guys often park illegally on the job and ticket people who also may be attending a ball game. Why all the hate about an expose on parking illegally for recreational purposes or for media parking illegally on their job?
