Stroger Seals his Doom?
- Cook County commissioners voted Tuesday to repeal last year's unpopular sales tax increase -- but taxpayers shouldn't hold their breath in hopes that they'll soon by paying less at the cash register.
The 12-3 vote to roll back the 1 percentage-point increase next January was a political body blow to Board President Todd Stroger, who immediately vowed to veto the measure. Commissioners acknowledged they may not have the votes to make the tax repeal stick. An extraordinary 14 of 17 County Board members are needed to override a president's veto.
Stroger, the prime backer of the tax increase, called the surprise vote "political theater" by commissioners trying to placate angry voters ahead of next year's election. Four commissioners who supported the tax increase in 2008 switched sides and voted for its repeal, meaning they could win back some voter sympathy even if the repeal doesn't stick. Stroger acknowledged it would only add to his troubles as he seeks a second term in 2010.
His one chance to be seen as a reformer rather than a tax-and-spend tool of the Machine and he blows it. Typical Stroger. One has to wonder if Beavers (who is supposed to be advising this fool) is setting him up at the behest of the Daley crime syndicate.

He doesn't need anyone to lead him down the path towards Doom, he's doing a good enough job using his own limited intelect. He has his patronage army to bring in the votes. Try and get a County Job with out a letter of approval from local Dem power brokers, or a chart showing your position on the Stroger Family Tree !!!!!

Todd just had his future dumping assured and he has been put on notice to begin a new job search.
The Cook County Board is packed with Daley allies. They will do what Daley wants. The move to repeal that tax was orchestrated by Daley to pull the rug out from under Stroger. Make no mistake, this is NOT a case of the CC Board suddenly growing a backbone. All they did is play follow the leader and one or two of them answered the phone.
As I understand it, the tax repeal is a whopping 1%--FOUR TIMES as much as the 1/4% roll-back TS proposed a month ago. Let's see, the new roll-will be a whole dollar for every $100 spent. I still think I will shop elsewhere.
Oh and Daley's sales tax hike was better??? Im tired of hearing how the County is over taxing .... Wake up people look at your property tax bill.... My county portion went DOWN ...my city portion and damn schools WAY UP!!

the board will be allowed to vote against the tax hike. not enough votes to overthrow veto!
toddler will veto, thus bite a bullet for reelection.
dems will put their guy in line for the new opening to replace toddler

SCC, think you're on to something regarding a future effort from the Daley crooks to dump Todd. Notice every story mentioned John Daley,(mayor's brother) leading the charge to repeal tax increase. Guess it's time to make John president of the Cook County Board. Smoke & mirrors.
Understand this...Tod does NOT run the show. This is all a scam by the board so you'll like them come election time. His veto will be upheld with the help of the two absent board members. Anyone who votes for these morons deserves what you get. They think you're stupid and you prove them right every election.
Don't worry about the Toddler, he'll just star in a new sitcom called "Erkel, The Adult Years".

I saw the interviews on TV with Toddler, John (Brother to Shortshanks) and Forrest Claypool and that is exactly what I thought. Todd is gettting set-up.
That and the Daley Crime Family is getting ready to sell off Cook County assests to their cronnies like they were doing with the city's.
When interviewed about his stance, he said "screw it". No, I'm not being facetious, he actually said that. Must have been on WBBM newsradio last night. Haven't seen THAT clip on tv.

Just got my Dupage tax bill.. $4400 on 1800 square feet. Oh and the DUPAGE Airport also gets a piece.
Does any other airport in IL collect property taxes ?
