Weekend Violence Update
The WBBM report looks a little thin:
- Two people were shot Saturday night in the West Side's Lawndale neighborhood.
- A man was fatally shot in the chest while attempting to sell a handgun early Saturday inside a Far South Side apartment.
- A man was hospitalized Saturday morning after being shot in the West Side’s Garfield Park neighborhood.
- Mose Blumenberg, 24, was fatally shot in the back Friday night in the South Side’s Marquette Park neighborhood.
- A teen was shot in the head in what may have been a drive-by shooting early Saturday in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood.
That leaves out quite a few acts of violence pointed out in various comment sections here. The double shooting in 017 (one dead so far), the double vehicular homicide in 013 (2 other in critical), the burning body case.
We guess if it disappears off the front pages after a single news cycle, the image of a slight gang problem being out of control isn't so pronounced.

A note for the detectives:
This kid was in a gangway besides one of the many abandoned buildings in the neighborhood. Who knows those buildings well? The gangs that run in that area. We know who that gang is and how that gang doesn't care who they kill and much less where they do it. The same assholes who capped a rival gang member at a wake probably did this since they are the only ones that probably knew that gangway was available. The gang was already hot that day because the night before the burning incident, another rival came into the hood and spray painted pretty noticeable graffiti.
Im sure the kid was no saint, but no one deserves to die especially when there is that slim chance that someone can make a difference in his life so young.

The problem we have here is a combination of manpower shortage and stupid district boundaries. Everyone keeps saying that he was found in 008, 54TH and Sacramento is actually in 009!!!!! The FAR SW CORNER of the district! In 009 you have Back of the Yards where they are shooting each other up every night. Then you also have the northern edge of Englewood from 51st to Garfield and Western to Wentworth always going up. That leaves lonely beat 911 with NO COVERAGE!!

St Jude March Update,
Has anyone noticed that since they moved the St Jude's March to the middle of nowhere, I mean the lakefront, that there is no media coverage any longer?
The Mayor did not want thousands of rogue coppers marching on the Magnificent Mile and had it moved to obscurity. St Judes belongs on Michigan Avenue!
I did not attend St Judes this year but I did attend Church and I did memorialize our dead. I refuse to take part in a fraud anymore. Please stop spewing your lies of indignation from 3510 about how we do it for our dead.
St Jude has turned into a political popularity contest for the bosses and a get out of spring inspection for the troops. The citizens no longer see us marching and they no longer even hear or see it on television. Our Commander-in-Chief will not even attend and pay his respects for one hour a year.

From the NewsOn Friday night, Tirado said he and other family members asked police to help search for the teen, but were told to go home and call police in their own neighborhood to fill out a missing person's report. I wonder if it was 22:00 and 911 wanted to go home so they turned them away and started their long commute back to the station so they can make it on time for check off.

Why are they, Media, keep reffering the Victim as CPS student? For what I heard, the kid was a dropped out and stopped going to school last September 2008. A drop out is a drop out, he didn't go to any school after September, so therefore, he was not a CPS student anymore!
The fact that this kid was allegedly reported missing and was not a GANG BANGER, I wonder who has he been staying at between the time he was reported missing and the time he was killed?

911 3rd Watch isn't rushing to anything, let alone a job. And it doesn't take an hour and 15 minutes to get to the beat out of roll call. 20 minutes tops. Halsted south to Garfield, Garfield west to Western, congrats you did it in 15 minutes.

A 16 year old was shot three times and his boss was robbed and shot during a robbery on Roosevelt and Central Park. The offender is apprehended and weapon is recovered. A show up is done and the offender is positively identified. The proceeds are recovered and id as well. State is called out and refuses AGG. BATTERY charges stating that he will approve Armed Robbery charges and battery charges will probably be added later! Are you kidding me! Great job by the officers and detectives involved. Don't forget the only Agg Batt charges that get approved are those that involve PO's, no matter how frivolous.

I agree, the districts are short bodies, but it takes you an hour and fifteen minutes to get to your beat from 009??!! Sorry, but I worked in 009 for 10+ years and unless you're crawling, you could make it to your beat in about 15 minutes, "rush hour" or not!

I have to say, after this years St Jude, I am embarrased to be a Chicago Police Officer. Only half my unit showed up, the majority who were there complained the whole time, and everyone was joking around as we marched. No one saluted as we passed the stand b/c of J-pud, but it is not about him, it's about honoring our fallen.
In years past I was proud to take part in the march, it often brought a tear to my eye when we passed the families. But this time around I wanted to hide my face. I hope this only took part in my unit and was not how the whole march went.

I just saw a report out of the 16th District that Ken Hauser's wig was blown off by a large gust of wind last Saturday. Responding officers were treated and released at local hospitals for shock and they are expected to recover. Asked for comment, Hauser stated he was looking into purchasing a more effective scalp glue.

What's missing from the top down is a "REAL" strategic vision of crime reduction in Chicago.
in the 90's CPD cut the heads off gang organization. Now we are left with rougue operators fighting for control. The GD's aren't as unified as they once were when one guy was calling the shots. Hoover, Fort, etc. aren't controlling things they way they used to. Now we(CPD) are chasing an elusive enemy with no centralized authority, yet our strategies to combat this have changed very little.
Someone needs to evaluate these gangs strengths and weaknesses and CPD strengths and weaknesses. Then formulate a plan to apply our strengths against their weakness.

NEVER HAPPEN! Its not "Politically Correct" and it would take balls to pull off. Not Balls from a patrolman standpoint, hell, there’s still quite a bit of cops with those left. I would like to leave a comment for everyone about the man who was shot in the head on Morse. I dated this man for over a year and a half, and you are right he may not be a saint of any sorts but he is a good person and he has an amazing heart. He was dealt a bad hand in life and did make some very poor decisions throughout the years but none the less this is a person. And the asshole who said something about him being a veggie and us having to pay for that...well first off piss off you sick bastard and second off you need to deal much more with the systematic problem that is at hand. And for one second think about how this has affected and impacted his family, friends and loved ones. And also while you are at get a fucking heart. No one deserves this, and this amount of violence and chaos that is corrupting your streets is not okay. There is something wrong with the violence and this sickness. I am from Ohio and grew up very sheltered from this chaotic environment and have since moved back due to the amount of violence and corruption that has plagued your streets. I am so tired of everyone saying how great of a city Chicago is, it is violent and it is angry. And the dark streets that encompass your city are cruel and brutal. I am too overwhelmed right now to continue on this rant, but please know that you are talking about someone’s son, their grandson, their nephew, their uncle, their friend, their acquaintance. It shouldn’t matter this is a human, a fucking human being. Who bleeds the same as you and I, who breaths the same air. My God have a heart, have a fucking soul. This man is a good person, and he does in fact have an amazing heart, and he was creative and thoughtful and was very kind to many people.
