Local Media in Trouble?

Touted as a cost saving measure, the camera crews fear major job losses:
  • Beginning Monday, the news departments at four of Chicago's five largest TV stations will share resources in a daring experiment.

NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32, CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 and Tribune Broadcasting-owned WGN-Channel 9 will pool two camera crews from each participating station. The crews will be directed by an assignment editor and a managing editor. A source said a staff person from WMAQ's newsroom will become managing editor of the new joint venture, but a New York-based spokeswoman for WMAQ said the participating stations weren't ready to reveal that person yet.

So one giant video pool is to be created. How many jobs are they cutting? We're guessing quite a few and the holes will be filled by stringers. The electronic media is heading in the direction of the print media at a pretty good clip it seems.

Great. This will insure an absolutely monolithic, centrally controlled viewpoint even more rigid and intolerant than seen today -- utter Gleichschaltung.

No danger of film of Bud Billiken Day ever being shown with this arrangement. Chicago TV "news" will coalesce further along the lines of 190 North -- the camera turned towards exciting new restaurants and art gallery openings as the tourists are dragged into alleys and beaten in the dark.

Rot in Hell, Media Worms. Your papers are dying, your TV viewer ship is waning, and your Leftist Talk Radio stations can't support themselves without getting Free Government Cheese.

Good riddance....

Just as long as they don't mess with my WGN morning starting line-up. Hands down, the best news cast and crew ever. Funny shit everyday they're on. Great chemistry between Robin, Larry, Pat and Dean.

That one person has to be blessed by Da Mayor and will do what he tells him or her to do. You can count on that.

By the way, fuck Daley.

Actually, it's more likely that this way, they've got a single person controlling the camera angle(s), thus reducing the possibilities of a 'rogue' news crew capturing images that they don't want the public to see.

With the exact same video and audio captured, all that remains is for the respective station editors to get their 'approved' copy, for the talking heads to parrot, from their respective 'pravda' editors.

'Syncrocity' of propaganda is the first rule of indoctrination.

Here's a clue as to the purpose of this 'move':

"The venture's managing editor will decide each day what news events the pool crews cover."

(from the linked article)

Now, since the Times article also states:

"NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5, Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32, CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 and Tribune Broadcasting-owned WGN-Channel 9 will pool two camera crews from each participating station."

and

"But market news leader ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7 has opted out of the joint venture."

one can wonder if either CBS-2, NBC-5, WGN-9 & FOX-32, as the 'cooperating' group of broadcasters, or ABC-7, as the implied 'uncooperative' news broadcaster, will actually cover anything 'newsworthy' in a substantially or significantly different manner.

Time will tell.

no big deal anyway, when gov't spoon feeds the official story maybe they can supply some footage as well.

With the exception of Fox, the networks will, in an effort to cut costs, bombard us with stories derived from White House press releases telling us how fortunate we are to have a personable Socialist leader. You know, tidbits like how many 3-pointers he hit that day or how he's just finished designing a new car for Chrysler that you'll be able to finance through a bank that the Government just took over.

1) The broadcast media was headed the direction of print media when FOX News went on the air. It's all about getting ratings. They soon started to eclipse CNN and the rest of the networks had to follow suit.

2) Pooling camera crews will actually increase news coverage and likely make it better. Instead of having five crews covering one event, they can just have one crew assigned to one event while the others cover other things. It's pretty innovative if you think about it.

A big reason why traditional news organizations all over are in trouble is the knowing publics lack of trust in their reporting. The news is obviously slanted many times. It also used to be that they had to verify everything before they went with it but now to be the ones with an "exclusive" they run with bad info. So, slanted, one-sided reporting and using flat out bogus information, equals a no confidence vote by the public.

HELLOOOOOO!

The reason they are "pooling" the camera crews IS NOT so other crews can cover other things... they're doing it so they can lay off and not pay the other camera crews. They are eliminating personnel and payroll.

Soon Daley will control EVERY story that they cover. Watch for him to 'donate' one of his media spin masters to their cause, paid for by the taxpayers of course, to write their copy for them, (with a decidedly Daley Crime Family bias).

Maybe they can get a bail out so that the government can own the media also. But they may already own a little piece after they bailed out GE. No wonder no one says anything bad about Obama.

There's a slight chance that this will improve the quality of reporting, since it will free up photogs to spend more time working with reporters, rather than running all over the city shooting VOSOTs that every other station is also shooting at the same time. I have photog friends in the media, and they aren't always happy about a lot of the crap they are forced to cover.

My guess is this is mostly about getting footage they would all be doing individually otherwise.

No reason to send 4 camera crews to every Daley press conference.

The media is controlled by the democrats anyway. Just look at it as cost cutting measures, they are consolidating, easier to control the message going out to the public. That's why the democrats want the "fairness" doctrine passed, they dont have control of radio or Internet which are only real and truthful journalism that is out there now.

Then whoever controls these few crews will be the media czar. He or she can make something out of nothing and ignore whatever. The start of Pravada I think.

yes, soon all media in chicago will flow from one source... the 5th floor of city hall will be the filter and final arbiter...

the local media is in for a good hard ass-screwing with grease & ground glass by order of crime king daley and they will be ordered to enjoy it. he is a monster of their creating/enabling because of their refusal to expose him for what he is...

there will be a network of talking assholes on light poles strewn throughout the city like the blue light cameras. from these, the daley news will spew forth with melodious sounds & "magik odours" to intoxicate and placate the masses...

the daley center is the new red square, city hall... the kremlin.

soon we may yet to see members of the media living in shanty-towns along the banks of the chicago sanitary & ship canal... chucky, pammy, skippy and the whole lot of you.

Yes Comrade, as you wish. *foot steps, open & close door*

Hmmmm... *scribble* when he is done, have him arrested and shot for over-zealousness.

As you wish Comrade... would you want that we leak stories of his "misdeeds" to the press & media?

Yes, see to it that it is done.

As you wish Comrade. *footsteps*

Hmmmmmmm... *scribble scribble*

He is dangerous, he shows initiative....

welcome to Daleygrad, local media! you ass-clowns are aiders & abettors to the hair on fire insanity of shortshanks. YOU had a major hand in helping to fuck this city up beyond recognition. (and you KNOW HOW)

STOP GIVING THE DALEY CRIME SYNDICATE A FREE PASS! you lazy fuckers are here mining this blog for shit to throw at the police instead of using it to help send shortshanks & co. to the gallows.

Bashing the police is one thing. The media knows a copper won't wait outside the news studio and do a drive-by on their ass when they get out of work some day... but do they actually believe that won't happen if they start bad mouthing gang members ? ? ? ? ?
