Nice Pinch

  • An armed robber who held up a downtown 7-11 was arrested within seconds this morning by two marine unit cops who'd stopped for coffee, police said.

Elgee Burdine, 32, of the 6100 block of South Ingleaside Ave., was charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon following his arrest at 5 a.m. outside the convenience store at 71 East Monroe Street, Chicago Police spokeswoman JoAnn Taylor said.

Sgt. Robert Fitzsimmons and officer Raul Echevarria--who normally work on water with the Chicago Police Marine and Helicopter Unit--say they grabbed Burdine as he fled the store with $226 cash and a loaded shotgun stashed in his bag.
And about two weeks ago, the Mounted Unit grabbed another armed robber downtown. And another Marine Unit officer nabbed a third armed robber just before that?

Nice jobs Officers.

...and nice job, Mr. Mayor. You are losing your high-rent downtown core to the animals.

Another example of being in the right place at the right time. A much older, wiser partner from years past used to say "I'd rather be lucky than good any day".

Coppers all over this shithole of a City make pinches like this on a daily basis, sans the accolades because of shitty victims, witnesses, etcetera.

Let's not break our arms patting these coppers on the back just because they're in a clout-heavy unit and caught a bad guy. I'd really hate to see any of these details emerge only to bolster the reasoning behind any of these guys being submitted for and getting a merit promotion.

"Nice Pinch"? Absolutely. Worthy of a thread on SCC? Hardly.

Folks don't learn nothing in jail no more. Everyone else knows guns and atomic weapons are both forbidden in Chicago. Obviously more gun laws would have prevented this poor felon from going astray one more time.

Don't forget the two 008 district coppers who grabbed two armed robbery offenders holding up the Family Dollar at 49th and Cicero while in progress; Officers recovered weapon still on the offender and proceeds all while vtm's were laid out on floor all over the store.

I'm glad the mainstream media is finally printing up the shit that happens in the 1st and 18th Districts. Too many citizens believe it's safe. We know better.

You know that's messed up. Don't get me wrong SCC, I'm sure these two hard chargers did a fantastic job. I'm sure they will get every type of award possible! EVERY!

But coppers through out the city do this type of arrest every so often in the roughest & toughest neighborhoods in the city. But do they get this type of attention? Nope. They will be lucky if they get anything. They might be working for a lazy Sgt. who says, " you'll get your award on the 1st and 16th".

Just my opinion. So, who's in? How many awards will these guys get?

WTF - Merit Promotion??? That's a leap - Why not worthy of a thread on SCC? These guys did a great job - no matter where they work. Yes, there are thousands of great jobs being handled by great coppers out there every single day & no one will tell them "great job" except for US. If we don't tell each other great job then who will? Let us rely on the media to tell us "great job", or let us rely on a 7 yr. wonder sgt who wouldn't know a "great job" if it jumped in the car next to him. It is up to us to say "GREAT JOB" because no one else will. I appreciate this forum for the the opportunity to hear of good work throughout the city and for giving me a place to say GREAT JOB & nice work to those officers.

Now IF we can get the Helicopter Unit to participate in an arrest, we can promote the slogan, "On the land, the sea, or in the air, the Chicago Po-lice will be there."

(That sure beats, " You may be older and a lot wiser, but you ain't shit 'cause WE got Seiser!")

Watch the video of the robbery. No cuffs or radio. No search until the store clerk told them the shotgun was in the bag he was carrying.

Sorry that you people missed some of the points of the story as a whole...it is realized that arrests of this type occur each and every day in every part of the city. One of the points was that despite being assigned to other than patrol duties officers are out there each and every day doing the work that they were sworn to do.
Bitch at your "bosses" and "supervisors" for not doing what they're suppossed to be doing...recognizing your accomplishments.
The boss at the Marine Unit called News Affairs and got the ball roliing on this one...btw the officers were also taking part in the "Cops on Top" fundraising for Special Olympics that same tour. The sergeant and officers did a great job...they got the recognition that they deserve!

Clout heavy??? Take the f-ing test u little cry baby. Out of roughly 200 that took the last test only 33 were considered well qualified and about 42 on the whole list. They went into the mid twenties on the list. So break it down they took over 60% off the list. About 80% of the well qualified. The rest FAILED because they couldnt swim, had no diving skills or just didnt show up. Start swimming, learn to dive, get as many certifications as u can, get your captains license, step up and take the test and you will have no problem getting in. Or just give up and cry and whine. WAAAAA WAAAA WAAAAA
Excellent job Raul and SGT Fitz..

A couple of years ago I could see an increase in the amount of riff raff hanging around downtown. After reading about the Taste of Chicago shootings, I decided to take a pass on going downtown for the festivals.

There were some seedy looking people hanging out around the Blue Line stops in the Loop as well.

Better safe than sorry. I'll keep doing my shopping up Northwest and in Wisconsin.

Question. If they are in the Marine Unit where did they park their boat? Was it legally parked and if not did it get a citation from the PEA? Are they off their beat? Did an inspectior write them up? Sounds like a 30 and pending violation to me!!
