Congratulations?

  • Chicago Police today announced an 11 percent decrease in homicides and an eight percent drop in total crimes compared to this time last year.

During the same time, crime dropped in 22 of the 25 police districts, according to preliminary statics through the end of May 2009.

Police officials credit the decline to the work by officers on the street, implementation of new crime reduction strategies, and community involvement.

The headline should probably read "Reported Crime Drops 8%" seeing as how a large portion of the drop is police taking two, three and four hours to respond to disturbances and misdemeanor incidents that citizens finally decide isn't worth sticking around for and head home.

As far as we can tell, backlogs aren't down, shootings are up significantly, and manpower remains a problem. Tommy Skilling maintains his position as the Crime Reduction weatherman. We still haven't strung together a series of 90 degree days yet. An 11% reduction is about 25 homicides below last year? We know the number of supposed "school aged homicides" is up over 60%. Won't somebody think of the children!?!

What's the percentage of "death investigations" we're up from 2008?

Homicides are down a bit from the same time last year, but aggravated batteries are up. So there are less being killed, but more being shot.

Great job J-Fed. The medical community is giving you better numbers.

So what is the % increase in "death investigations" over the last few years. I am guessing there has been a steady increase over the last 5 years or so.

Anybody know how to pull that out of the database, or are we locked out of that too?

Someone should look into the increasingly high number of suicides in this city. There must have been a half dozen last week up north. Not everyone feeling the positive vibe about town?

Sorry I'm a skeptic, you can take all the "preliminary" numbers and make it anything you want. The bottom line is a true number of calls vs. dispatched calls vs. reports? If you ever get the real number and then crunch them you'd be way off from the "preliminary" numbers.
Hell I watched a girl get sawed in half in Vegas, did I witness a homicide or just smoke and mirrors?

Off topic: to the M/2 Cook County ASA who picked up a prostitute near 5th and Cicero very early Wednesday morning you were not let go because we are "cool" with you. Your freedom was only the result of another beat requesting immediate assistance, something your office knows nothing about. Anita, if you are reading this, you need to start cleaning up your own office before you go after cops in bar fights.

which A,S,A,- They don't mind talking shit about us at the end of their shift at the restaurant. Lets hear who it was so that when he starts his shit of denying charges for a Battered P.O. we can call him on it.

"They covered up 80-90 homicides as "death investigations" in 2008".

Will someone please tell me how I can make some of the homicides a death investigation? It sure would save me a shit load of paper work!!!

I have never seen it done in 15 years in the DD. Nor has any other Detective or Supervisor ever even suggested I make a homicide a death investigation.

So PLEASE explain it to me I am tired of all this typing.

I do remember on one occasion where the P.O.s, the Paramedics, the hospital and Detectives missed a bullet hole from a .22 Cal bullet under a victim's armpit which was discovered by the M.E.

Needless to say The Detective who is a Lt now, never heard the end of it! Why would any Officer, Detective or Supervisor on this job risk everything, just to make a Homicide into a Death Investigation???

Yet this same CLOWN posts this same BULL SHIT every chance he gets!

Show us some proof, You don't even have to post any names. Just post a few RD. Numbers of cases you KNOW have been intensionally and falsely classified as death investigations!I'll bet you can't post even one!

Prove it or SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

SCC, just took the Performance evaluation training. Found out that with a bad rating, "Need improvement or Unacceptble" PO's are not eligible for assignment to units, merit promotion or step raises (2 years of bad ratings). They couldn't address the many concerns with glaring problems with this process, all they could say is this is what they are giving us. Inside source tells that the company being paid to develop this program is owned by golden boy Huberman. I need to see his ethics statement for the past few years. It was obvious to all present in my class that this Performance evaluation has major flaws as well as potential jackpots for both side of the process. As is, none of the unions should allow this to happen.
