Great Job by Officer, Sheriff

  • A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after being captured by an off-duty Chicago Police officer and an off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s officer just moments after apparently fatally shooting a man Saturday afternoon in the South Side Pilsen neighborhood.

Marcelino Sauseda, of the 900 block of West 35th Street, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a Chicago Police Dept. release.

Sauseda was taken into custody after an off-duty Chicago Police officer apparently saw him fire a handgun several times at a van traveling east on 18th and Loomis streets about 4 p.m. Saturday, the release said. Several bullets pierced the driver’s side door, with one striking a passenger.
A credit to the Department.

Re: 55 and Out!.

Yes I'm glad I'll be able to leave soon, but this bullshit that JFED is spewing about how recruits are better trained coming out the academay than those officers 20 years ago really pisses me off.

Ok fed guy, let me explain something, and I will type
v e r y s l o w, so you can keep up. Training is NOT the same as experience, skills and street smarts, three important aspects of police work that come with having some time on the job, something, you have NO EXPERIENCE with, since you were not, nor will ever be the POLICE.

Would you go to a recent medical school graduate and have him or her perform a difficult surgical proceedure on either you or a family member, to save a few bucks? I think you would want someone with, experience and skill. Someone who just might save your life.

When shortshanks finaly gets indicted with his evil cabal of associates , will you hire a recently law school graduate to keep your ass out of the federal pokey, or would you reach out for one of your former AUSA's who know how the game is played?

Don't think so...

So please don't piss on the men and women who have worked most of their adult lives for the Chicago Police Department, by saying that new recruits out of the police academy will be just as good, because they simply are not.

Man up and admit, you'd rather pay a new copper a lot less, get more work out of them (dangle the special units in front of their eager eyes) than to pay us older, more experienced and street savy coppers at a higher pay rate.

Was on scene. Both our guy and the Cook county guy did a great job. The CPD guy is assigned to information services but still when it was important he stepped up and showed he is the real police. Also 012 had a great response to a confusing situation with two crime scenes and conflicting information being received and given out by OEMC.

I hate to say this, but this is a no brainier really. Of course they were wrong, but where was their supervision ? Why didn’t a boss notice what they were up to and step in to correct them ? Did their bosses go to sleep or something ? In any case I am further wondering why these officers did not have professional liability insurance ? Just like a doctor every officer today needs this or they are handing their pension, home and future financial security to the first citizen they make a mistake with. We’re human, we’re all going to make mistakes, don’t let them be mistakes that will haunt you your entire life. The insurance costs a few bucks but the peace of mind it brings priceless.

Once again, if you pay high taxes, maybe you should get a refund so you can buy a gun. Maybe two guns. You are literally on your own.

Tact Teams from 016, 017, 019 and 020 have been shipped out of their assigned districts and sent to the west side.

Nice to see the aldercreatures going along with the smoke and mirror campaign. Next step is to have you bring your own garbage to the Ward Yard so they can lay off some more laborers and drivers.

Well, you are screwed!! The 017 tact teams are detailed out. Make sure you keep paying property tax!

All the dumb reassignments, punitive discipline, useless so-called missions, petty criticisms, lack of contract, lack of respect, lies peddled by the media, manpower shortages, lies peddled by the department... all of them, in the end, fail to keep the police from policing.

We're weebles. You can keep pounding on us, but we always get up and we always keep on keepin' on.

The real question is whether you are better off with a more recently and probably better trained doctor with up to date knowledge, or one with more experience. The answer is unclear, despite any number of studies that have been done on this very question.

You presume that a more recently trained doctor has up to date knowledge, thoroughly understands all the real life factors affecting the beneficial applications of that knowledge and the wisdom to apply that knowledge to your specific set of circumstances.

You also presume that an experienced doctor hasn't kept him or herself 'up to date', hasn't learned many useful things not taught in an academic environment and hasn't gained immense wisdom from their experiences.

Substitute 'police officer' for 'doctor', then see if you reasoning remains sound.

Oh, and as for those 'studies' you seem to place such importance on, the only thing that will really matter to you is whether that 'doctor' you choose to place your faith in provides care that actually helps you heal or kills you.

Why is a young whipper snapper inside instead of using his skills on the street where he is much needed and where he can get some street experience before leading us into battle?

First of all the Cook County guy is assigned to their Gang task force. Secondly 1299 came on the air and said she could not verify if the two crime scenes were related specifically for the reason you are beefing about. IT COULD NOT BE VERIFIED until all the parties were interviewed, the crime scene processed etc. There were three separate locations of a person shot given out by OEMC and conflicting reports called in of where the shooting occurred. When the dispatchers asked if it was one event to state it was only to find out later it wasn't would have really given an out in court.

Please expound on that educated statement moron. I would love to see you walk in a room full of a hundred or more shitheads without your pistol and take care of business. Like they do at county. Then run into one of these shitheads that you put in check on the street when you are with your family. They get the same firearms training as we do guy. So stfu.

Other than technology what new policing techniques are there? None. You go out stop people and when they are dirty you lock them up. This hasnt changed in probably 50 years or more. This statement by Jody shows that he knows nothing about policing.

i'll tell you i'm from 009 and responded to the 10-1 call, bc it came out as shots fired at the police. I'm very grateful that no P.O. was in danger, but i do have a beef with the way that 012 handled the job. in this circumstance you have an off duty p.o. that witnessed the crime. yet you have 1299 coming on the air and stating that she is not sure if the two crime scenes are related and so forth. also you have cars from 012 giving out flash messages of vehicles which may have or have not existed, as well as descriptions of offenders which do not match the offender that the off duty p.o. caught. the point of my story is if you have a crime on viewed by a p.o. off duty, or on and the offender is in custody, stay off the air with bullshit. all you are doing is giving the offender an out when it comes to trial. the offender was in custody and the weapon recovered and yet people were still giving flashes out that contradicted the entire scene. think before you put out info.

He is a Sheriff's Police Officer, not a jail guard. But, does it really matter where he works in the Sheriff's Office when he's one of the good guys. Do you think that the off duty CPD officer turned and said "jail guard or PO" as they were chasing an armed offender?

Open your eyes, shit heads are fighting with the police, shooting at the police and proudly calling themselves "cop killas".

the Police should be banding together, not creating childish divides with immature bullshit.

KUDOS to the CPD and CCSPD officers for a job well done!

I think most of these negative responses in reference to the 9th Dist. Ofc., of course, are coming from 12th District P.O.'S. Why is it that you cannot accept that he has a different view point? Maybe some of you have been working in
12th too long that you have adapted to their ways. I have inquired to a friend of mine and he agreed- there was much confusion and unnecessary comments made via police radio. Although, he noted that different districts tend to have their own way of handling these situations i.e.,comments made ON the radio and comments discussed person to person.

Let's talk to the tact guy (latino) who once said "oh, 12 is easy! All you do is put yourself down on a Hazmat call! I mean WTF!!
So my friend (p.o) asked him if he was aware that the counts and la raza gangs are in a war and his response was, "um..... oh, yeah- I know that." Yeah right! His response and the look on his face said it all!

You have SOME nitwits that work in 12th. You can tell them the car went this way and when they get to the end of the block they turn the other way. You wave them down 3ft. from their car and they keep going. Such respect! As a resident, you just get to know which officers are workers and genuinely care.

I have come to the realization that I cannot and will not judge all by the actions of a few goofballs who do not care about policing because they may have clout.

Sorry, I guess you all work among some few who just want to appear to be the police.

By the way, to the officers complaining about that Sheriff carrying- he was C.P.D as well at one time - so he received the same training that you all did.

Great Job Sheriff and C.P.D!

Stay Safe.

With much appreciation for you putting your lives on the line for people such as my family and I,

A Pro-Police Pilsen Resident

These saints were on the public street washing cars for funeral funds, each repleat with facial scars and tattoos, the father with an alcohol enlarged nose (Hypertrophic Rosacea) , so dad no money for Juniors funeral???

Pilsen shootings keep making headlines because the neighborhood's becoming a pseudo-bohemian hotspot again. The businesses opening along 18th Street are hardly for Mexicans anymore. They're for the white kids riding bikes. In the last year, the Sun-Times, Tribune, New York Times and Timeout Chicago have all but proclaimed it the next Wicker Park.

"Great police work, don't get me wrong.
But SCC, this is one of those 3 year wonders who went straight to 35th street after getting off probation and is being groomed to take a command position at HQ. He is one of those that is always being put down for working inside at 35th st by some of your readers! Why is a young whipper snapper inside instead of using his skills on the street where he is much needed and where he can get some street experience before leading us into battle?
Maybe this proves that not everyone who has connections and who works at HQ is a do nothing?
Expect to see more of Officer "G" in the future and maybe even work for him! You heard it here first!"

OK Brett, Alex, Jonathan, enough is enough. Being "groomed" "leading us into battle" What novel did you find this crap in?

Being groomed is synonymous for sucking up for a merit nod.

WC discretion. I've always wondered how long you could stay on it. Lets say the wife was having some minor surgery, and needed help for 3 days. Can I get 3 days SIF? Any watch secretaries out there who could answer this. Oh wait, no more watch secretaries...I forgot.

Read the G.O.

It is at the W/C discretion.

So, if the W/C wants to give you one day = fine.
If the W/C wants to give you 3 days = hello vegas!

Officer from 9. If you werent there dont second guess coppers. Offender in custody and all officers are safe. Not only was there two crimes scenes but various gang conflicts after the shooting. SO before you open your mouth think a bit. The other flashes were from other gang conflicts after the fact that citizens said they were going to retalliate and guns were scene. Of course your going to get over the air and let your fellow coppers know these other scumbags might have guns. I didnt see you quelling the other fights between the party people and la raza on 18thst............ Unless your there keep your opinions to yourself

To 16th district section 8

The off duty Sheriff is a Police Officer not a Deputy. I am the lead detective on the case so i think i should know. Anyways regardless wether he was a deputy of sheriff it should not matter. Both are officers in my mind.

Should you have any other comments to make without knowing the answer like Obama just call Area 4 and ask for the assigned detective. All Officers,P.O.'s and supervisors did a great job.

Thx for a job well done and stay safe.
