Great Job by Officer, Sheriff
A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after being captured by an off-duty Chicago Police officer and an off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s officer just moments after apparently fatally shooting a man Saturday afternoon in the South Side Pilsen neighborhood.
Marcelino Sauseda, of the 900 block of West 35th Street, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a Chicago Police Dept. release.
Sauseda was taken into custody after an off-duty Chicago Police officer apparently saw him fire a handgun several times at a van traveling east on 18th and Loomis streets about 4 p.m. Saturday, the release said. Several bullets pierced the driver’s side door, with one striking a passenger.
A credit to the Department.

Re: 55 and Out!.
Yes I'm glad I'll be able to leave soon, but this bullshit that JFED is spewing about how recruits are better trained coming out the academay than those officers 20 years ago really pisses me off.
Ok fed guy, let me explain something, and I will type
v e r y s l o w, so you can keep up. Training is NOT the same as experience, skills and street smarts, three important aspects of police work that come with having some time on the job, something, you have NO EXPERIENCE with, since you were not, nor will ever be the POLICE.
Would you go to a recent medical school graduate and have him or her perform a difficult surgical proceedure on either you or a family member, to save a few bucks? I think you would want someone with, experience and skill. Someone who just might save your life.
When shortshanks finaly gets indicted with his evil cabal of associates , will you hire a recently law school graduate to keep your ass out of the federal pokey, or would you reach out for one of your former AUSA's who know how the game is played?
Don't think so...
So please don't piss on the men and women who have worked most of their adult lives for the Chicago Police Department, by saying that new recruits out of the police academy will be just as good, because they simply are not.
Man up and admit, you'd rather pay a new copper a lot less, get more work out of them (dangle the special units in front of their eager eyes) than to pay us older, more experienced and street savy coppers at a higher pay rate.
... another pilsen shooting making headlines.
Sheriff's police and CPD working in conjunction? What's next? Cats and dogs living together? It'll be anarchy!
Was on scene. Both our guy and the Cook county guy did a great job. The CPD guy is assigned to information services but still when it was important he stepped up and showed he is the real police. Also 012 had a great response to a confusing situation with two crime scenes and conflicting information being received and given out by OEMC.
I read this comment on the Chgo. Trib. comment section. Being a Pilsen resident myself, I'm glad this POS is now off the streets, hopefully for good! My thoughts exactly with what this poster said below.
A CPD Wife

To the off-duty sheriff and p.o.- KUDOS! CPD... please know that there are a lot of Pilsen residents that support you and thank you! We wish you could do more but with a weasel as a mayor, we understand!
Stay safe and May God bless you all!

I hate to say this, but this is a no brainier really. Of course they were wrong, but where was their supervision ? Why didn’t a boss notice what they were up to and step in to correct them ? Did their bosses go to sleep or something ? In any case I am further wondering why these officers did not have professional liability insurance ? Just like a doctor every officer today needs this or they are handing their pension, home and future financial security to the first citizen they make a mistake with. We’re human, we’re all going to make mistakes, don’t let them be mistakes that will haunt you your entire life. The insurance costs a few bucks but the peace of mind it brings priceless.

Way to go!!
Outstanding!
Nay Sayers can say "Don't do this," or "Lay back on that" but most of us came on this job because we were answering the call. We wanted to make a difference...well guess what? No contract-low morale-shit equipment-Not appreciated. We're still doing the job and answering the call. Outstanding job Officers!
i'll tell you i'm from 009 and responded to the 10-1 call, bc it came out as shots fired at the police. I'm very grateful that no P.O. was in danger, but i do have a beef with the way that 012 handled the job. in this circumstance you have an off duty p.o. that witnessed the crime. yet you have 1299 coming on the air and stating that she is not sure if the two crime scenes are related and so forth. also you have cars from 012 giving out flash messages of vehicles which may have or have not existed, as well as descriptions of offenders which do not match the offender that the off duty p.o. caught. the point of my story is if you have a crime on viewed by a p.o. off duty, or on and the offender is in custody, stay off the air with bullshit. all you are doing is giving the offender an out when it comes to trial. the offender was in custody and the weapon recovered and yet people were still giving flashes out that contradicted the entire scene. think before you put out info.
Great job. Thank you for being there.

Once again, if you pay high taxes, maybe you should get a refund so you can buy a gun. Maybe two guns. You are literally on your own.
Tact Teams from 016, 017, 019 and 020 have been shipped out of their assigned districts and sent to the west side.
Nice to see the aldercreatures going along with the smoke and mirror campaign. Next step is to have you bring your own garbage to the Ward Yard so they can lay off some more laborers and drivers.
Well, you are screwed!! The 017 tact teams are detailed out. Make sure you keep paying property tax!

Better cats and dogs than rats and hogs.
As a supervisor who hears, 'great, well, they just convinced me not to do anything else for this department' at least once a week, I'm grateful that we are always 'still the police' when push comes to shove.
All the dumb reassignments, punitive discipline, useless so-called missions, petty criticisms, lack of contract, lack of respect, lies peddled by the media, manpower shortages, lies peddled by the department... all of them, in the end, fail to keep the police from policing.
We're weebles. You can keep pounding on us, but we always get up and we always keep on keepin' on.
hey 9th.why dont you show more presence on morgan st? im still waiting for an answer!
GODSPEED. But, a free killing is always a good thing. Also, always let the gangster finish the job, then snuff him. 2 dead shitbirds in Chicago is a CAPS success story in my book.
It was jail guard not Sheriff Police, get it right. Jail guards should not even be armed but that is a whole other story.....

No, not on me, thanks. But if YOU were the family member and I was the sole beneficiary of a nice fat life insurance policy ($500 payout), you betcha.

the call comes out as shots fired at the police and you're second guessing 012s response because you knew what really happened from being in constant real-time contact with the officers who chased and caught the mope and also by what you saw on telemondo when you got home?? do us a favor and stay off the blog with your bullshit.

I'm covered through my homeowners policy with State Farm. Just ask around the insurance companies if you want to price check.
The umbrella liability insurance is available from most insurance companies. It may or may not require home owners insurance with it. Ask any insurance agent. Probably just cheaper if you have home owners with it.
Kudos to the Officer and the Sheriff!!
Thanks for being brave enough to stand up and do the right thing when it needed to be done.
The CPD guy is assigned to information services
what the hell is information services?????
This sheriff is originally from Pilsen and has two brothers who are CPD. I am so grateful that this CPD off-duty P.O. and the Sheriff were in the area. To actually get the offender and the weapon. WOW! Speechless, but very, very appreciative! (This offender is the son of the man that was killed on 17th & Loomis in January.) I am glad that this jag will be gone for a very long time- if not forever.

Those places are called Insurance Companies!
State Farm, Allstate, Geico, Farmers, and dozens more. You pick up that instrument called a phone and ask what their rates are for a million dollar umbrella policy, then let your pocketbook decide.
Can anyone define "Sickness in Family" for me? Is this a benefit guaranteed by our contract, the City or at the discretion of the Watch Commander?
Once again proving that we do our jobs no matter what, with or without a contract, on or off duty, morale high or low. De-policing, my ass. King Theif, and all of the aldertheifs, give us our contract, and stop with this "the city is broke" b.s.
Nice job to the guys involved.
Good Job Guys. I think you "ACTED UNSTUPIDLY" in making this arrest.
It's great to see we can put aside our differences, you know, agency-profiling, County vs City, Sheriff vs Police Officer, blue vs khaki.
In fact, I'd like YOU BOTH to join President Obama, Sgt. Crowley, Professor Gates and myself for a beer at the White House. Watch the News for the date and time. Hoping to see you there!

You could have at least given the OFF Duty OFFICERS a kudos, but no instead you are crying I can't understand I'm confused stay off the air and you are worrying about court and it's not even your case! Here's the deal on your next OFF DUTY grabbing the Homicide Offender you can teach us all on how you act while the shit is hitting the fan. I bet your next up on the Sgt's (merit) list. Idiot.

Interesting point.
The real question is whether you are better off with a more recently and probably better trained doctor with up to date knowledge, or one with more experience. The answer is unclear, despite any number of studies that have been done on this very question.

You presume that a more recently trained doctor has up to date knowledge, thoroughly understands all the real life factors affecting the beneficial applications of that knowledge and the wisdom to apply that knowledge to your specific set of circumstances.
You also presume that an experienced doctor hasn't kept him or herself 'up to date', hasn't learned many useful things not taught in an academic environment and hasn't gained immense wisdom from their experiences.
Substitute 'police officer' for 'doctor', then see if you reasoning remains sound.
Oh, and as for those 'studies' you seem to place such importance on, the only thing that will really matter to you is whether that 'doctor' you choose to place your faith in provides care that actually helps you heal or kills you.

WC discretion. I've always wondered how long you could stay on it. Lets say the wife was having some minor surgery, and needed help for 3 days. Can I get 3 days SIF? Any watch secretaries out there who could answer this. Oh wait, no more watch secretaries...I forgot.

Read that particular provision in your (expired) contract. It is spelled out pretty thoroughly.
I work for State Farm. You can also purchase an umbrella policy if you have an auto policy.
Dear scc:
To 7:22: stay off this site, its not your playground, its ours. Yours is at your caps meeting, that Is where all the answers come from. Maybe you should write your president and tell him that the fed money needs to get here quick so more stupid police can patrol morgan street. You can also write your mayor and tell him that he should sell michael reese campus for the 88 million that he bought it for and hire more police. Or tell him to let go of all the police officers assigned to drive him and his family and burke and other politicos around and put them on morgan street.
Better yet, Isn't there a big blue flashing police officer on morgan? Go talk to him.
What was the shooting about in 016 this morning? Gee maybe we need a ceasefire march, and R.I.P. shirts for STOSH!

Great police work, don't get me wrong.
But SCC, this is one of those 3 year wonders who went straight to 35th street after getting off probation and is being groomed to take a command position at HQ. He is one of those that is always being put down for working inside at 35th st by some of your readers! Why is a young whipper snapper inside instead of using his skills on the street where he is much needed and where he can get some street experience before leading us into battle?
Maybe this proves that not everyone who has connections and who works at HQ is a do nothing?
Expect to see more of Officer "G" in the future and maybe even work for him! You heard it here first!
Man up and admit, you'd rather pay a new copper a lot less, get more work out of them (dangle the special units in front of their eager eyes) than to pay us older, more experienced and street savy coppers at a higher pay rate.
Be careful when you get the umbrella policy from an insurance company. I have one but was told it does not cover any work related lawsuits. My wife is a nurse and had to take out a special policy for those lawsuits also because the policy didnt cover her work related claims. Most agents will tell you they cover everything, but that is not true

Unfortunately due to this occuring in Cook County he will plea out to a 10 year sentence and be released in 5. Hopefully not, but that's the normal sentencing.
First of all the Cook County guy is assigned to their Gang task force. Secondly 1299 came on the air and said she could not verify if the two crime scenes were related specifically for the reason you are beefing about. IT COULD NOT BE VERIFIED until all the parties were interviewed, the crime scene processed etc. There were three separate locations of a person shot given out by OEMC and conflicting reports called in of where the shooting occurred. When the dispatchers asked if it was one event to state it was only to find out later it wasn't would have really given an out in court.
It was jail guard not Sheriff Police, get it right. Jail guards should not even be armed but that is a whole other story.....
Please expound on that educated statement moron. I would love to see you walk in a room full of a hundred or more shitheads without your pistol and take care of business. Like they do at county. Then run into one of these shitheads that you put in check on the street when you are with your family. They get the same firearms training as we do guy. So stfu.
Ok fed guy, let me explain something, and I will type

Other than technology what new policing techniques are there? None. You go out stop people and when they are dirty you lock them up. This hasnt changed in probably 50 years or more. This statement by Jody shows that he knows nothing about policing.

He is a Sheriff's Police Officer, not a jail guard. But, does it really matter where he works in the Sheriff's Office when he's one of the good guys. Do you think that the off duty CPD officer turned and said "jail guard or PO" as they were chasing an armed offender?
Open your eyes, shit heads are fighting with the police, shooting at the police and proudly calling themselves "cop killas".
the Police should be banding together, not creating childish divides with immature bullshit.
KUDOS to the CPD and CCSPD officers for a job well done!
I think most of these negative responses in reference to the 9th Dist. Ofc., of course, are coming from 12th District P.O.'S. Why is it that you cannot accept that he has a different view point? Maybe some of you have been working in
12th too long that you have adapted to their ways. I have inquired to a friend of mine and he agreed- there was much confusion and unnecessary comments made via police radio. Although, he noted that different districts tend to have their own way of handling these situations i.e.,comments made ON the radio and comments discussed person to person.
Let's talk to the tact guy (latino) who once said "oh, 12 is easy! All you do is put yourself down on a Hazmat call! I mean WTF!!
So my friend (p.o) asked him if he was aware that the counts and la raza gangs are in a war and his response was, "um..... oh, yeah- I know that." Yeah right! His response and the look on his face said it all!
You have SOME nitwits that work in 12th. You can tell them the car went this way and when they get to the end of the block they turn the other way. You wave them down 3ft. from their car and they keep going. Such respect! As a resident, you just get to know which officers are workers and genuinely care.
I have come to the realization that I cannot and will not judge all by the actions of a few goofballs who do not care about policing because they may have clout.
Sorry, I guess you all work among some few who just want to appear to be the police.
By the way, to the officers complaining about that Sheriff carrying- he was C.P.D as well at one time - so he received the same training that you all did.
Great Job Sheriff and C.P.D!
Stay Safe.
With much appreciation for you putting your lives on the line for people such as my family and I,
A Pro-Police Pilsen Resident

And i for one am glad the sheriffs stay armed off duty. Just more help for the good guys. The mutts dont care the difference between sheriff and police if you didnt notice

Amen!
The shooting death of this Victim was reported on ABC& News, and displayed him as an "Artist", his father as a drunkard, and al his friends as saints. These saints were on the public street washing cars for funeral funds, each repleat with facial scars and tattoos, the father with an alcohol enlarged nose (Hypertrophic Rosacea) , so dad no money for Juniors funeral???
Too much Gang Banging??
No mention at all that the shooter was caught by LEOs
NO MENTION AT ALL !!!
Pilsen shootings keep making headlines because the neighborhood's becoming a pseudo-bohemian hotspot again. The businesses opening along 18th Street are hardly for Mexicans anymore. They're for the white kids riding bikes. In the last year, the Sun-Times, Tribune, New York Times and Timeout Chicago have all but proclaimed it the next Wicker Park.
I agree with the first comment of this blog. These so called new police don't know the street. Give me a high school diploma kid from Chicago over a college kid anyday!!! I for one am sadden to see so many of the best guys and gals leaving. I want to give a BIG thanks to four guys who took me under their wing. John, Mike, Joe and Ken THANK YOU guys. I know what I know because of you.
Im from 12 and can tell you the tact team now far different from the tact team i remember. with exception of the older tact officers who are still the real police, the new guys dont have a clue. shots fired by dvork park and they go in with a drinking on the public way what the fuck guys. it no wonder we have the worst tact team in the city
It was jail guard not Sheriff Police, get it right. Jail guards should not even be armed but that is a whole other story.....

Says who? you? And who the f*ck do you think you are? Not only SHOULD Corrections Officers be armed, so should EVERY law abiding American citizen.
Go visit some places outside Shitcago where people actually think and excercise their God given freedoms.

017th District is going to shit!
Half the West side has moved into the area North of Montrose, East of Pulaski, West of Albany and South of Foster..
Tips for 017 tact:
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Here's a tip for you .....
MOVE!!
"Great police work, don't get me wrong.
You heard it here first!"
-------------------------
OK Brett, Alex, Jonathan, enough is enough. Being "groomed" "leading us into battle" What novel did you find this crap in?
Being groomed is synonymous for sucking up for a merit nod.
WC discretion. I've always wondered how long you could stay on it. Lets say the wife was having some minor surgery, and needed help for 3 days. Can I get 3 days SIF? Any watch secretaries out there who could answer this. Oh wait, no more watch secretaries...I forgot.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Read the G.O.
It is at the W/C discretion.
So, if the W/C wants to give you one day = fine.
If the W/C wants to give you 3 days = hello vegas!
It was jail guard not Sheriff Police, get it right. Jail guards should not even be armed but that is a whole other story.....
this guy is probably a former jail guard from the 19th ward who's daddy had enough clout to get him on sheriff's police. they think they are better then everyone else with their do nothing job hiding in the forest preserves.Deputies and c/o are in the city 365 days 24/7 dealing with the same pieces of shit that CPD does but in different job situations. later juice baby
The CPD guy is assigned to information services
what the hell is information services?????
LIFM says, good work BG.. and as for the above post stay out of our business Jody
He's a 3 year wonder, has an OFFICE on the 3rd floor of HQ! A take home car when he's not on call for sh#$!!!
also a hell of alot samrter then you'll ever be..LIFM
I love this off-duty activity. We just had Markham let 3 guys have it now CPD gettin' in on it. I love it and think that the off-duties have been doing a lot lately.
It was jail guard not Sheriff Police, get it right. Jail guards should not even be armed but that is a whole other story.....
who gives a fuck whether he was a jail guard or a FED he did an outstanding job and probably better than you ASS WIPE.
I bet if you were there you would have looked the other way and asked the dispatcher for your l/2 hr.
Officer from 9. If you werent there dont second guess coppers. Offender in custody and all officers are safe. Not only was there two crimes scenes but various gang conflicts after the shooting. SO before you open your mouth think a bit. The other flashes were from other gang conflicts after the fact that citizens said they were going to retalliate and guns were scene. Of course your going to get over the air and let your fellow coppers know these other scumbags might have guns. I didnt see you quelling the other fights between the party people and la raza on 18thst............ Unless your there keep your opinions to yourself
I'll be one of the few and agree with you. this is what happens when 95% of the police here are clout baby kiss asses. Just be fortunate you don't work with some of these people.
.....
Wow 95% percent of the force you consider are kiss ass clout babies. Thats a pretty big number. Wouldnt want to work with your assssss.Lets give a more realistic number. 35 percent....

To 16th district section 8
The off duty Sheriff is a Police Officer not a Deputy. I am the lead detective on the case so i think i should know. Anyways regardless wether he was a deputy of sheriff it should not matter. Both are officers in my mind.
Should you have any other comments to make without knowing the answer like Obama just call Area 4 and ask for the assigned detective. All Officers,P.O.'s and supervisors did a great job.
Thx for a job well done and stay safe.

He's Mexican and grew up on 18th Street. He works on a gang team and had the nerve to chase an armed homicide offender into an alley.
