Outfit? What Outfit?

  • A politically connected Cook County state's attorney's office employee threatened to use her position to expose her ex-boyfriend as a federal informant against the Outfit, voice mail messages played in court suggest.

Prosecutors are investigating two cell phone messages that narcotics unit administrator Patti Simone left the father of her children, Nicky Rosales, during a bitter split earlier this year, Cook County State's Atty. Anita Alvarez's spokeswoman Sally Daly said.
Just a domestic squabble? Not really:
  • Simone was once spokeswoman for former State's Atty. Richard Devine but now makes $67,000 a year working in Alvarez's narcotics unit. She has continued to work at the Cook County Criminal Court building since the tapes surfaced.

She is the daughter of Palos Township Democratic Committeeman Sam Simone.

The godfather to her children is Richie "The Cat" Catazone, reputed to run the Chicago Outfit's 26th Street gambling operation, while Rosales' cousin is convicted mob hit man Harry Aleman, Rosales said.
So a woman with "family" connections is working in the State's Attorneys office, close to all sorts of sensitive information of ongoing investigations, wiretaps, trials, etc., and no one blinks an eye?

Well why would they? It's not like the mayor's brother is married to the daughter of another Outfit connected family, is it? And John Kass hasn't written a series of articles about the mayor riding around in golf carts with known associates of Organized Crime groups. Or certain "minority" front companies landing all sorts of contracts aren't owned by people with all sorts of odd associations to underworld figures.

The mind boggles.

I don't want to end up swimming with the alewives off Navy Pier, but I seem to recall some strategically placed mob associated cops traveling to Club Fed in the recent past.

I seem to recall a certain half Mexican/half Polish Superintendent who "retired" because of his relationship with an "interesting" gas station owner.

Just do a websearch for the terms "amoco" and "Merriam". It gets even worse.

I also recall a rotund former Superintendent axing the Organized Crime Unit(I forget the exact name) as soon as the forklift placed him in the "Sups" chair.

I could go on and on and on.

Anyone ever ask how soon to be Federal Inmate Twan Doyle ended up working in property? Who placed what calls?

Thanks,

OT:

In the recent Supreme Court case case in New Haven which went in favor of mostly white firefighters who were denied promotions because too many white firefighters scored highly in the test, I found parts of Justice Ginsburg's opinion interesting:

"For the moment, we have Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's eloquent view. Writing for the Supreme Court's four liberals, she offers a more complete defense of Sotomayor's stand than Sotomayor and her colleagues did."

"As sympathetic as Ricci and the other white firefighters may be, Ginsburg argues, they are not entitled to promotions merely because they scored higher."
---

How about that?

"THEY ARE NOT ENTITLED TO PROMOTIONS MERELY BECAUSE THEY SCORED HIGHER."

Thank you Justice Ginsburg. That should do wonders for my case that I should be promoted because I am a white police officer who did poorly on the last Sgt. exam. Near 1700 to be exact.

It's gonna take some coppers with 1. BALLS and 2. knowledge like yours to make a difference. If you are investigating something and it gets quashed like this, why not go to the feds? Call me a rat, whatever... a job I love is in the toilet because of crooked leadership at the city and county level. Cops that are worth their salt won't fault you at all on this one.... Fairness For Officer William Cozzi

I am a Chicago Police Detective who came on the job in 1986. I have never met Officer Cozzi in my life, and know nothing about his case besides what I saw on TV. But what I know is our Officer Cozzi was punished far beyond his actions.
His plight has affected our morale and justifiable so. Who among us wants our career to end like his? He is in his 50's and when he gets out of Federal prison he will be destitute. But what can the rank and file do? Powerful people decided that Cozzi had to walk the plank for political expediency.
Individually we can all be cozzied for a minor indiscretion. However collectively we can move mountains. "Together we can" to steal a phrase from our uncaring overlords. Who is with me? Who wants to reverse this injustice. There is a simple solution. Money talks, and you know what walks. 120.00 dollars or Ten dollars a month for a year from each us deposited in a trust account in Cozzi's name run by the FOP or the Credit Union.
13,000 Chicago Police Officers x 120.00 = 1,560,000.00. Cozzi serves his time but his family doesn't starve. Cozzi serves his time but walks out of prison with enough to supplement his income that he has a similar retirement to ours. Brothers and Sisters please stand with me and support Officer Cozzi in his time of need. We can do it. We should do it.

U.S. indicts Chicago cop for hitting suspect

July 1, 2009 10:41 AM | 1 Comment
A veteran Chicago police officer has been indicted on a federal civil rights charge for allegedly striking and injuring a suspect under arrest, federal authorities said today.

Officer Craig Swistowicz, 38, was assigned to a federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force when the incident took place in September 2007. He has been on the Chicago police force since 1997.

The U.S. attorney's office in Chicago removed itself from the case because of Swistowicz's assignment to the federal task force, so the indictment was brought by federal authorities in Milwaukee.

Another confirmend "referral" by JFED because he knew Craig's dad
is influential and would have had this rightfully squashed.
Someone comes at you with a gun and you do what you got to do to protect yourself and partners and the next thing you know you get indicted but absolute bullshit!

Is JFED going to " refer" Abate's case too?

My GOD! Please bosses, don't ask us to do anything anymore because the great majority have "stopped" being the police for reasons like this.

As for the liberal public who are quick in judging us for doing are job, DON'T CALL US THEN WHEN YOU NEED HELP!

Off topic but worthy of a post. A veteran Chicago Poilce officer arrested for civil right violation.

This P.O. did not deserve this. The ILLEGAL immigrant was delivering kilos of Cocaine and was armed with a handgun.

I guess what we should all do is either get shot or get your ass kicked first and then still do nothing.

It just keeps getting better and better.

Hey Dugan and Peterson I have one question for you guys. Do you have his back?

7/01/09 @ 7:30am,

They just got rid of the competition.

There is no way the volume of drugs that get in to this country, get in to this country with out some people in very high places and positions of influence in our gov't allowing it to happen.

There was an interesting story reported today on Fox News about an ATF Agent named Dobyns (if I recall correct) who was under cover in the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Gang for years.

He made a great case against the gang.

While going to trial, as Dobyn's puts it, the ATF and the Gov't Atty's gave each other such monkey bites and threw granades in each others efforts to make the case the case was ruined and the gang members walked.

Then they, the HA, made it there business to tell Dobyn's that he and his family will never live in peace. He's been moving around the country for years.

What does the ATF do about that. Not a fucking thing.

No I ask you. How does that happen??

Dobyn's was quoted as saying he believed the case was ruined by the govt' atty's and the ATF's fighting over receiving the glory of making a case which there actions destroyed.

I think it was by design to spring the HA's. I mean how does that happen and then they don't have the back of there Agent?

I'm just sayin.

Maybe Dobyn's is a bad Agent but that hasn't been born out in any way in the media.

You are correct, Caucasians out-distance African-Americans if you merely look at total numbers of merit promotions in each race category, but not if you look at the ratio between the number of merit promotions in each race category as opposed to strength of numbers on the job in each race category. Figuring the ratio, African-Americans are way ahead. If you include women in each race category, and disregard gender, then figure the ratio, and you will find African-Americans are even farther ahead.

You have a very good idea here but not an original. Years ago we used to have a fund we contributed to on the district level, some tact units even had it. If someone did time in the district or unit and was part of the fund we would take care of him. The department put a stop to it. This would be an intersting subject to bring up with the FOP, I doubt they would touch it, but intersting.

Agreed. I look back at my decision not to proceed with the hiring process after I was in it as one of the best decisions I ever made. Granted I was very conflicted at the time ('93)especially after years of waiting for the city to give a test, but that and leaving the State 3 years later were way overdue, should have done it a decade earlier, then I would have had a 20 somewhere out west. 7/02/2009 01:45:00 AM

Wrong.

Merit promotions are a statistical tie along racial lines based on who takes the test. That is the real reason why the city gives two tests. The first test determines the racial breakdown for merit promotions.

Each racial group (black, white, hispanic) gets an even merit promtional chance based on the numbers in each racial group who TAKE THE TEST.

Whites always get more merit promotions because more whites take the test.

The number one deciding factor in giving a merit promotion is race. The city tries to make sure the numbers stay in line so each racial group as the same merit chance.

Black officers sued about 10 years ago and the opinion detailed exactly how merit promotions break along racial lines.

OFF TOPIC:

SCC please consider this for its own spot.

Your definitive, one-word opening declaration of "Wrong" made in response to my post, clearly and plainly stated your position, but then you susbsequently agree with me when stating your case, with the only difference being that I was comparing total numbers on the job in each race category in relation to the number of merit promotions in those same categories, while you were comparing the numbers in each race category that took the test as opposed to the number of merit promotions in those same categories.

However, statistically, using numbers on the job, AND, numbers having taken the promotional exam, with each individually opposed to the number of merit promotions, African-Americans are much farther ahead, as are Hispanics. Fact.
