Precisely why I haven't done a fucking thing other than activity mandated by G.O. and state law, i.e., domestic-related arrests, tickets ONLY when handling accidents where a party involved doesn't have insurance, etc. for the past 2 years.
Also, no revenue for the Daley Crime Organization whatsoever.
No parkers, no burglar alarm citations, no vehicle impounds. NOTHING.
And I can say with 100% certainty that I can, and will, remain a stagnant presence on this job until our contract, complete with retroactive pay, is a done deal.
And who knows. By the time a contract and retro actually comes to fruition, I may be so accustomed to this method of policing, I may just ride out my career in such a fashion. Afterall, that IS the police department liberal society wants, correct?

We need to make sacrifices so the mayor can bring us the low cost olympics that 79% of the city doesn't want. Just keep making the stops and bringing in the numbers for the bosses so they look good and get even larger salaries. All the brass have been hurt by our lack of a contract too you know!

Not a good idea, NYC cops and firefighters think he is an asshole. He let the surviving 9-11responders die a slow death without proper benefits. The biggest difference between Rudy and Shortshanks is Rudy WAS a United States Attorney going after the mob while our poor excuse for a mayor was only a title holder as Cook County States Attorney and never was in a courtroom. How about a contract change about traffic court appearances. I was talking to someone who was at traffic court recently. Besides no one being in the court rooms, (although I'm sure the clerks were there three deep). When they added their button to the list the corp. council asked what tickets they had. They had only one for no insurance at a traffic accident. The corp. council told them they were not needed to be there. They said that they listed themselves as the witness to a no insurance violation. The corp. council informed them that it was agreed by the judges and the states attorneys, that if the other party involved in the accident doesn't show up in court, the tickets will be tossed out. Even if the officer is the complainant and witness. You wonder, why do we pay for insurance? Why are the insurance rates so high for the dopes who actually pay them? Than I thought about how the law that mandates having insurance was enacted and the judges and states atty.s just decided not to enforce it!!!! Think about all that revenue that is supposed to be collected in fines and court costs to pay for the clerks, (and people that donate gifts to the cook county clerk). If we miss the traffic court date, wether were are needed or not, the great department that we work for will try to suspend us for one day......

The contract that expired in 1999 was languising for over two years, like this one, it went to arbitration at about two years, like this is headed, and we got our retro in 2002. Three years after the contract expired. Like this one is looking.
A year later it expired again. (2003) That time the FOP filed for arbitration relatively quickly. The issues were not like now. We got that one settled in less than two years.
And now, we have only Mayor Richard M. Daley to thank. with luck, the memory of all this shit, our contract, the parking meter fiasco, the Olympics swindle, will all be fresh in the voter's minds when they next vote for which thief gets to run things in Chicago.

I only came on the job in late 2006 and the contract expired in early 2007... I wasn't even covered by the contract yet when it expired, so essentially my entire class and everyone hired just before and since has NEVER had a contract on this job.

With the summer fest in high gear, I've been advised to "lock em up" if they in the park (PR Fest and Taste) or showing colors. There has to be a charge, otherwise none of these bosses would tell me to do such.

No problem, 16.5%, minimum, 3.3% a year, immediately.
Also a signed letter of memorandum in future contracts declaring that both sides understand it is in the best interests of the Chicago Police Department to have a new contract in place within 90 days of the expiration of any contract between the City of Chicago and the Fraternal order of Police.
To further that end, the letter of memorandum will provide for both sides to begin negotiating in earnest 180 days prior to the contract expiration.
If no agreement can be reached upon 90 days after contract expiration it will be agreed upon by both sides to file for arbitration on day 91.
Also we need an amendment to City ordinance that Mayor Daley shall be required to attend a different CPD roll call each day after contract expiration to explain, personally, to all officers exactly why a new contract is not in place.
And then, and then, and then I woke up...
...wow, what a dream!

I try to avoid reading this blog because of the effect it has on my bloodpressure and the sometimes ignorant views but I'll give it a try.My husband is tactical officer from a southside district.He has been on the job for over 20 years and STILL is a hard worker,my problem is that his work is KILLING HIM SLOWLY.Not only his 50ish hours he works reularly,but he is constantly working at side jobs to help with 4 CATHOLIC SCHOOL TUITIONS.This week I was informed secretly by a couple of other wives that his team is doing something TOGETHER on the 3rd that he believes simply will not happen.He says NO MATTER WHAT he is going to work at that day AND THAT COPS WILL NEVER hit the medical.Does anybody have any input,he says he's come to far and that anybody that stupid will get fire,how can yopu fire someone for being sick?

taking time due or putting in a personal day is one thing.. its worth a shot, but calling in medical when your on a tac team on july 3rd or 4th is a guarantee dump back to the watch. unlike patrol, in tac they own you. you can get your days off cancelled and are told where and when to go somewhere... if he calls in medical on one of those days he will 100% be dumped off the team

You DO NOT go immediately to arbitration.
ANY labor attorney around the country will tell you the SAME thing.
If we went to arbitration 2 years ago the arbitrator would FORCE us back to the table because we, (FOP or/and PBPA) did not bargain in good faith.
By that time, a year would have passed and the national economy went to shit by July 2008.
AT THAT TIME, if we went to arbitration we would get a SHIT financial deal and get absolutely fucked on the discipline isssues in the contract that the city wants.
I am NOT the FOP.
However I attend ALL the meetings and I speak to various labor attorneys on the issues.
For all you LAZY ASSHOLES who keep knocking the local FOP or PBPA; attend at least half the meetings and then run for a position yourselfs.

An arbitrator WOULD NOT allow the city and union to go to arbitration immediately after a contract ends. There has to be proof that both parties attempted to bargain in good faith for a reasonable amount of time.
