So This is Perfection

  • CHICAGO -- How does he do it?

That's the company line, the inside joke, the way we deal with a normal dude like Mark Buehrle doing abnormal things like throwing a perfect game, winning a World Series, and marrying the pretty girl he proposed to in a deer stand.

How does Mark Buehrle do it?

Look at him. He's a monster-truck-driving, deer-hunting, self-proclaimed country boy who strains to hit 90 on the radar gun and was picked in the 38th round of the 1998 amateur baseball draft.

Sounds like a fun guy. Congrats.

Congrats to Burlhe on only the 18th perfect game in MLB history and to Wise on saving Burhle's gave. He should buy Wise a car.

My in-laws were at the game today. They get to maybe a game every few years. Guess they picked it right today.

Awesome accomplishment, sports-wise.

After the game, Buehrle was being peppered with questions during the post-game press interview and then it happened! They had to end the press conference because there was a phone call in the clubhouse for the perfect pitcher from none other than The President himself, Barack Obama! Pretty exciting stuff for Mr. Mark Buehrle!

But seriously, and not to diminish this baseball anomaly...

...the guys on "Sox Postgame Live" talked about how Buehrle had enjoyed meeting Obama in St. Louis at the All-Star game a week or so ago when the Prez threw out the 1st pitch...

...and then I came across a story about Obama coming to town tonight for a fundraiser and how Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith would be introducing Obama at the fundraiser that would also be attended by Bears QB Jay Cutler and Ex-Bull B J Armstrong...

...and then I remembered back in May when Obama greeted the World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies at the White House, and how he talked about their players. Obama mentioned the contributions of Cole Hamels, Chase Utley and Brad Lidge during the season...

...and then I remembered that the day that he was laughing with those Phillies players out in front of The White House, he was shirking a REAL responsibility of his young Presidency, and how, in MY mind, and probably many others in Law Enforcement, he created a DEFINING MOMENT of that young Presidency by not attending the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day...

...and I came across this comment on the NLEOMF website:

Shame on President Barack Hussein Obama for not attending this ceremony. Instead he chose to meet with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team at the White House and speak about the terrible loss of the Phillies broadcaster, Harry Kalas!!! Imagine how the families of the fallen police officers feel about this -- not one word about the terrible loss to the loved ones of our fallen Law Enforcement Officers.

President B.H.O. certainly showed his true colors today...it's all about celebrity with him. Pat Friedhoff, Mahwah, NJ

...and for me, it all came together clearly; What Obama did that day in May, whether intended or not, is what Jody Weis did here in his young Superintendency when he chose to go after William Cozzi ! ! !

Congratulations Mark!!!Maybe some Cub players(Zambrano) should watch this & take some pointers .Mark Buehrle is a class act. When he has a bad game, you would never see him go to the dugout and break a Gatorade machine, fight with teammates or get in a face of an umpire. This is one of many reasons the Cubs will never be champs!!!

The poster at 2:03 AM has defined the idiocy of the Cubbie nation. An historic moment in baseball and this ass clown has to make that comment.

To the poster at 4:34 AM thanks, and a class statement.

I'm a lifelong Cubs! fan, but I'll give the man his props, Great Job by Buehrle, the rest of the Sox and Wise should be finding a new Jaguar in his parking space at the Cell any day now.

Buehrle has secured his place in Cooperstown.

Congrats and I hope both our teams meet in October.

Let's be real, and call Buehrle's achievment "the perfect catch".

Because without Dewayne Wise's run/hit saving stab at the warning track, it's "woulda, coulda, shoulda" time.

I still think the 20K games pitched by Clemens, Johnson and Kerry Wood are better barometers of individual pitching achievment.

And that's only happened 4 times.

Daley couldn't watch tense Sox perfect game

July 24, 2009 12:36 PM

The city's First Sox Fan, Mayor Richard Daley, said today that he turned off Thursday's historic contest because he was worried about jinxing pitcher Mark Buehrle's perfect game.

"I shut it off because I thought it'd be bad luck for him, so..."

Mark Buerhle is what every pro athlete should be: a role model for the youth of America, a gentlemen, and family man. This could not have happened to a more deserving athlete. He has already stated that he will be gifting his fellow teammates. In 2007 after he threw the no hitter each member of the team received watches from him as a momento and Thank You. Thank You Mark Buehrle for giving us something to be truly excited about and for us Sox fans something to be proud of.

Only in his MIND does he have this much power over what happens in the universe. God, what an ego this guy has. As usual, it's all about Richie.

Mark Buehrle, you rock.
