We recall the Burger Queen got a pass on this exact same thing from a number of people - the CO of Midway, the Department administration, the TSA. Not this guy though:
Bond was set at $30,000 Friday for a south suburban man charged with bringing a loaded semi-automatic pistol in his bag to Midway Airport on the Southwest Side.
Rick Jones, 43, of the 17200 block of Forestway Dr. in East Hazel Crest was charged with boarding an aircraft with a weapon, a Class 4 felony, according to a Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
Jones was arrested at 6:11 a.m. Thursday, according to prosecutors, who said he entered the airport to travel to Orlando, Fla., with a loaded .25 caliber Phoenix Arms semi-automatic pistol in his carry-on bag.

Read something in out of state on-line newspaper other day about TSA, they usually decline to prosecute any law enforcement officer who "forgets" about gun or ammo at boarding sreening. I guess it happens a lot more than publicized....no defense of idiots though.

I believe Daley is fuming quietly about what Weis has done to the CPD during his short stay up til now; Don't be surprised to see 'online applications' for Weis's job before winter sets in here. The Olympic decision is fast approaching, and the word is, Chicago will be the host of the 2016 games. After that becomes official, Shortshanks knows he has to do SOMETHING to bring some sort of credibility back to the Dept.
The economic dropoff from revenues generated from ANOVS, movers/parkers and tows/seizures of cars has been nothing short of astronomical here, and Shortshanks has to install someone at 35th st. who can convince what small force we have left to go back to work, to some degree; if you think the cutbacks for this year have left a bad taste in a lot of mouths, wait until next year's cuts begin. Shortshanks may not like us much, be he underestimated how much this Dept. contributes to the GENERAL FUND, and that has fallen way off.
There will be no reversal of that until WEISel is no more.
Maybe WEISel will write a book about his time here after he's gone. I'd like to suggest two proposed titles:

Jeannie Clark was a Depty Supt when she went through sercuity at Midway with her weapon. Sneed put in her column how she caused a disturbance with the TA's. She went on to be in charge at Midway airport. She didn't get a CR# nor was anythinhg said about it. In addition, I know several officers who went to the airport and forgot that they had their weapon. The officers and supervisors at midway took care of them with no problem. Crump-Hales did not receive preferencial treatment. A CR# was obtained and disciplinary action requested. Double standards, I believe so.

But why would ANY P.O. go to Midway or O'Hare if they were not getting on a plane? OK, a P.O. would be working Special, but an EXEMPT?????
And if you carry your duty weapon or secondary weapon with you, you have to be prepared to use it. When was the last time Crump-Hales pulled her weapon in the performance of her duties as a sworn police officer of the City of Chicago?
And, of course this begs the question would you want her to? I don't know about her but I've known a few exempts that had "special" help when they went to qualify. The leading indicator of such shenanigans is when they close the range and only allow the exempt in to qualify. Why? So there are no witnesses?

TSA will not prosecute a police officer for having his weapon on him going through security, just as it will not prosecute a police officer for not packing his unloaded weapon properly in his checked bag.However, they will verify status with the department and the department WILL get a CR number on that officer. I have seen cases where the officer got 30 days recommendation for violating a" law or ordinance"
This is my take on this airport incident. A regular citizen is not allowed to carry a weapon in Chicago, so by them having it and being discovered by the TSA will be arrested by the CPD. Now the Burger Queen on the other hand by law is authorized to carry and posses a hand gun. So when the weapon is discovered all can be done is that the TSA advise her that she cant take her weapon on the secured side of the airport or on her flight, she would have to check her weapon with the airline and transport it with the rest of the baggage on the plane. While I know the majority of you guys hate her and would of loved to seen her arrested, there was no arrest situation here.Just like any P.O. going to a river casino,Great America, Sears tower, etc... cannot take their authorized weapons into these venues but when discovered or accidentally forgotten by the P.O. cannot be arrested for it.
