Birkett Bails - Again

Once again, Joe Birkett withdraws from a campaign without even making the effort:
  • Faced with a rematch against Democratic Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Republican DuPage County State's Atty. Joe Birkett dropped out of the attorney general's race today.

On his campaign Web site, Birkett essentially told supporters that he couldn't beat Madigan.

"I have assessed the political environment, the anticipated costs, and the commitment of time, among other factors. It has become clear to my advisors and me that it will be virtually impossible to compete financially with Lisa Madigan," he wrote. "She has the power of incumbency and her father continues to control the flow of campaign contributions. It would be wrong for me to run and to ask people to contribute to a race that that is virtually unwinnable under the circumstances."

We think Joe might have underestimated the disgust that is building amongst the electorate. Here's a novel idea - make Mike Madigan the issue. Hammer the cronyism and nepotism that is Illinois politics. Lisa is part and parcel of the corrupt Combine that is running this state into the ground. It wouldn't take much effort at all to tie her to her father, the mayor, Blago, and all sorts of crappy politics here.

And a Republican with a set of nuts that doesn't run away the minute a tough fight looms.

I know that you like to think that Lisa Madigan is dirty because you don't like her father (nor do I)but you're actually wrong about that. I have a friend who works for her and Madigan goes way out of her way to make sure there isn't even a suggestion of corruption. For example, from the day she got there, she would not allow her employees to come to a fundraiser even if they wanted to. She also not one to stay clean herself and allow others to scam. She is very, very careful at all times. I'd be very surprised if any kind of corruption were found in her office. She's also pretty supportive of the police.

Now if you want to talk about corruption coupled with stupidity, I have a friend who works for the Clerk's Office and from day one Dorothy Brown was wanting kick backs from employees. I knew about the "requirement" of buying $100 tickets to her fundraisers but even I was surprised when one of the papers did a story that she actually took cash from employees "for her birthday" and didn't see anything wrong with that. She runs that office like it's all about her.

Methinks Birkett may have too many skeletons in his closet that vicious pols like Mike Madigan would drag out and gleefully display... Why go through that character assassination if you don't have to?

I believe the only way to clean up this sewer of politics is to ride the wave of the NO INCUMBENTS PARTY and get rid of all the current pond scum!

Whose crack pipe have you been smoking???

Failing to investigate the Daley/Burke/Papa Madigan Crime Families and all of the corruption in Chicago and Cook County CONSTITUTES CORRUPTION BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.

It is clearly obvious that she has no plans to carry out any corruption investigations in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area. Or do you know of some corruption investigation she's doing that the rest of the world is unaware of???

You, my friend, are either naive, STUPID BEYOND BELIEF, or a corrupt Madigan apologist. Either way, go feed your bullshit to someone else

Well, Birkette is right, after all.

And the next Illinois governor will be Dan Hynes. It is so written; signed, sealed and delivered up by the High Priests of Madigan and Cullerton.

Little Lisa was told to stand pat and let the stronger candidate, Hynes, take this one. Pat Quinn has been suitably tenderized and is now completely set up to take the fall and Governor Dan Hynes will step in.

It has been carefully choreographed. The decisions have been made, the deals have been struck and now the play unfolds before us. Only the dupe Pat Quinn is surprised by this. Thanks for your few months of service Pat Quinn, now you can slink back into obscurity and spend your time going to basketball games at Fenwick HS and tell folks about your time as Illinois governor.

Soon, the chosen pols can get back to the real work of Illinois politicians: slicing up the tax and contract pie without public embarrassment.

Remember what SAIC Grant called Illinois politics: A public corruption crime wave. That crime wave will just go a little deeper underground.

youre nuts if you think little lisa is good for illinois. she WILL NOT INVESTIGATE CORRUPTION in this state, which makes her the problem rather than the solution.

and, just because all of the internal office fundraising bullshit is not evident doesn't mean that 1) it doesnt exist and 2)it isnt required to advance in her office.

finally, little lisa learned her corruption at the knee of papa mike who is a more civilized corrupt bastard than your average elected official. to try to insinuate that she is not corrupt because dorothy brown is MORE corrupt is like saying that ed burke isnt corrupt because richard daley is more corrupt.

lets not forget that when little lisa brazenly announced that she was going to investigate the selling of chicago's parking meters, a question was raised as to whether or not there would be charges brought against daley of the city council if evidence showed they had participated in any corrupt activity, and her office spokesperson sidestepped their free pass from her investigation by saying that they were only investigating the companies who tried to purchase the lease for the parking meters.

Sometimes I think the middle majority is so fed-up with the professional politicians an everyman/woman or not so everyman/woman could run for office and win without big-dough momentum by hitting the pavement ala Gov. Dan Walker ( who ultimately went bad).

An everyday Joe candidate with dirty laundry that got it out from the get-go telling the voters that he'd dropped out of college early, smoked pot, got thrown in jail high on LSD walking past stock boys who had closed the grocery store in his search for grapes, how he'd shared the company of those in the worlds oldest profession and while over the years having the opportunity to do so, when nobody was looking, never was nor ever became a crook and that after such early years of "youthful indescretion" lived within the law, paid their taxes and was a good citizen.

After walking and going door to door in every county In the state living on energy bars and oatmeal it would be interesting to see if the people of IL would give the any man like that or woman a shot.

If it happened and such a candidate got some traction with the statewide IL electorate, I can see the media hammering them on the "youtful indescretions". It would be so funny to see much of the electorate say, "Yea, that guy walked into my Barber Shop here in the south most tip of IL a year ago for a haircut in 20 degree below temp. and told me all about that stuff 'n more and askd me to think about voting for him for State Senator, Gov. or whatever based on the principles that he's learned about honesty, liberty, living within your means, cultivating manufacturing, education, providing flexibility and competition in health care, etc. and you know what Mr. Media Man, I'm going to vote for that old pot smoking, one time tripping, whore hopping kid because he told me the worst he's done and the best he wants to achieve for the people of IL. I've seen over the last 30 years what the professional, monied politicians can do and if after getting elected, the governing philosophy and goals we talked about get sucked out of his brain, we'll, at least I will have got fucked by somebody new for a change and not the same old outfit.

One the other hand, maybe he'll do no worse then the status quo or over time with more like him or her elected to public office a lot lot better will be done.

I doubt the media would ever run that dialouge if it came to be. Why do I think that? Well, let's see, Rev. Wright's Church was right down the road from the Chicago media and it took them years to find the hate whitey sermons he was giving to our now President and former Sen. BUT when George Ryan was running for Gov. the media got right in to his divorce records and reported what they fond there. That sure is an interesting "coinkydinky".

I know Joe Birkett. Yes, he's a politician but he also has been a working prosecutor. He'd make a good attorney general or governor. Too bad he didn't push forward.

As an out of town prosecutor, I needed help with two major cases last year -- one from Joe's office and the other from the Attorney General's office with a defendant they had prosecuted.

Joe responded within an hour, assigned one of his top dogs and then called me back saying he'd looked at my case and had some ideas based on his experience. Obvious from talking to him that he has "walked the walk."

OTOH, my telephone messages to Madigan's office were never returned and it took several months just to get an answer to my correspondence. What did I need? Just copies of their pleadings. And it took months just to get them.

You decide.
