Media Catches Up
In the sixth similar violent incident on the North Side, a man was beaten and robbed by four men who beat him and stole his cell phone while he was walking early Monday in the Lake View neighborhood.
A 24-year-old man was walking at 4:50 a.m. on the 3300 block of North Halsted Street when four men who appeared to be black attacked him, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
One of the attackers was wearing black clothing and clothing on the other three -- one of whom had light skin and was possibly Hispanic, was not known, according to Perez.
The latest incident occurred late Monday in Lincoln Park.
At 10:55 p.m. the man was walking his bike to his car when he was attacked by three men at the intersection of West Fullerton Parkway and North Cannon Drive, police said.
The attackers -- two black men and one Hispanic who was wearing a white hat -- began throwing punches at him and beating him, according to police who said the victim fought them off by using a chain from his bike.

Boohaker ruled that leaders in Jefferson County — now trying to head off a municipal bankruptcy filing of historic proportions — could go ahead with plans to slash $4.1 million from the budget of Sheriff Mike Hale, who had filed a lawsuit that temporarily blocked spending cuts for his office.
About 1,000 county workers already are on unpaid leave because courts threw out a key county tax, and Hale has warned that reductions to his budget would mean fewer patrols by deputies and decreased courthouse security.

The trib keeps flip flopping on the descriptions as they update the story. Earlier in the day they were black and in their 20s ... later on they were just in their 20s with no other description.

Anyone notice that Carol Marin's column today is heading once again down a slippery slope re: hospital stats - Just like the "racial profiling" stats collected, raw numbers can be used to prove anything, but will not result in solving any problems. Bad behavior - drugs, alcohol, gang activities, an antisocial mindset -are the problem - not guns. They are just delivering the message.

For one- this wouldn't be happening in the first place because these chumps would know they were risking getting shot by a victim.
Secondly, it's a shame when you have to use a bike chain to defend yourself- but kudos to the victim. I hope he got some good face shots in.

Oh but, you do. You are merely prohibited from such means within the corporate limits of the City of Chicago. The easy solution is to move away to some place that respects freedom.
I was watching ABC 7 news yesterday for a good 3 mins and the news reporter ( B.B.) never mentioned or even described who the offenders were.
Also, last year there were a few similar incidents that happened in 019 and 023 Districts and according to the Victims, the Offenders were either M1, F1, or even transexuals who frequent the area of Clark and Belmont until 4 am. Their M.O.'s were to spot a drunk male or female coming from the bars, they will then follow the Victim in a dark alley or street, then a group of them would beat, robbed, or raped the drunk Victim. Most of these Offenders live at the South end of the City like 005 or 006 District based on their ID's.. Be careful when you approach them because they are known to carry pepper spray to use against their Victims.
Do we really need state run media telling us what to look out for?
If it's late and I'm walkin' in Lincoln Park and I see 4 DePaul students walking towards me I won't be reachin for my snubby.

Not a cop or a lawyer but won't a victim of such an attack go to jail for defending themself by shooting an assailant/s?
Doesn't the law state you can only use deadly force when your life is threatened? A situation like these attacks is a Catch 22. If you're lucky to get one off just before or after being hit as the animals approach you get hard time and lawsuits for maiming or killing.
If you don't protect yourself you risk maiming or death.
These fucking liberals are doing everything possible to box us in to a society of docile victims.

You are absolutely right! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the more aggressive an officer is in his policing efforts, the greater the risk of getting accused of: A)Racial Profiling, B)Excessive Force, C)Official Misconduct, etc....etc.
And god forbid if you have been having a bad day. Where in most employment settings, if an employee snaps, i.e.:yells at someone, things are usually settled to every one's satisfaction once everyone calms down. If a Police Officer does that, they face anything from a reprimand to unpaid time off. Then you you will be ordered to go to counseling sessions and then be put up for review to see if the powers that be want you to have your job back.
So, as my friend has stated, just do the bare minimum. Answer your assigned jobs, write reports. If they insist on an arrest, lock the dumb ass up. Nothing like a little down time while processing an arrestee. And if you are lucky enough to work a district that has everything automated, (arrest and G.O.reports) then brother that has just increased your down time. I don't know how many times I've been in the middle of an automated report when the system goes south.

I am a law-abiding, level headed citizen who carries concealed. I will not let myself become a victim to appease our liberal asshat Chicago pols.
I also have no reason to be worried about the CPD, because I am not a law breaker. No one even knows I have a gun on me unless it's 2 inches from your face.
either way, I know you guys and gals in blue are doing the best you can with what you have, but I encourage others to do the same as I do.

About twenty years ago, I was robbed in the alley behind Biograph Theatre. I cut through to get to the bus stop after drinking all evening along Lincoln Ave.
I had run out of money so I left.
One of them had a knife and asked for all my money. I remember being obnoxiously drunk and berating them saying," I'm freakin Irish you idiot, I don't have any money, I just came out of a bar, that's why I left, I don't have any money, you freakin idiot."
I was lucky they didn't kill me, but it was pretty funny at the time.
We could tape one of these incidents and dub in "Birfday Song" as the audio track.

i have done some of the reports for robbery victims in A/3, and one trend catching on is how the criminals approach from behing, and often knock victims unconscious. while i am willing to bet my life that the offenders are m-1's and m-4's, the victims have really not seen their attackers. as far as clark-belmont-halsted-addison, it has become the norhtside heaven for ghetto dragqueens (prostituting-selling dope), and their pimp banger boyfriends. ALL of them have an address in the 5200/5500 hundred blocks of WESTSIDE streets or from 69th to 79th hundred of GHETTO SOUTHSIDE streets. they are walking up and down the above mentioned streets all night, looking for the next victim. they are in groups of 15 to 50. they dragqueens carry blades, knives, and pepper sprey. some of the male thugs carry empty guns (don't be fooled). almost every three days, we get a victim, who needs a report because their cell phone was stolen or their charge cards were used in Tinley Park or some southside suburb, where they will take the credit/debit cards and sell gas for cash to drivers. be very careful around that area...let your family and friend KNOW...

Any thoughts on the Ruger LCP? I've heard the saying that an off duty gun isn't meant to be comfortable. I understand that, however, I'm with my family quite a bit. I don't want everyone and their brother knowing I have a gun on me. I think this gun is great, however, not being a gun freak I'm sure there are one or two similar guns out there that I need to take a look at. Anyone have an opinion? My family means the world to me and I want to be prepared should something happen. Don't mean to sound cliche like, just looking for some thoughts. Thanks and stay safe!
