The shooting happened around noon outside the Gospel Truth Life Changing Ministries, 5301 W. Madison St., in the South Austin neighborhood. Kilmer said a group of mourners were gathered outside of a funeral service at the church for a "self-admitted" gang member.
The service was for 28-year-old Cornelius Robinson, of the 1200 block of North Cicero Avenue, who died Sunday, according to authorities. An autopsy performed the following day at the Cook County medical examiner's office determined Robinson died of obesity and heart trouble.
"An offender approached on foot, walked up to the intended target and shot multiple times," Kilmer said. "The offender then proceeded to fire at the crowd as he fled the scene."
Witnesses on the scene were not cooperating with police, Kilmer said, adding that the shooting was "obviously gang-related."

I'll let you in on a secret (don't tell ANYBODY): crime is WAY DOWN in 016. Especially in your neighborhood. But being Irish doesn't make these lost souls shitheads, unless you're walking with them through Mt. Greenshit. Just do your contact cards and off-duty gang dispersals, sport, and it'll be fine. Tac teams don't work til 4 am. We need the midnight cars to start making street stops. We also need the midnight 06 car to do more than just curfews.

I agree. Have lived in this area for years and I've noticed the same thing...little thugs riding their bikes or driving around in your standard issue banger car.
This is still a quiet and decent area and we are by no means the west or south side, and I'd like to keep it that way!

The media had no problem reporting the race of the WHITE SERGEANT CROWLEY of the Cambridge MA Police Department...yet they don't report the race of a group of "young male" attackers who have committed multiple strong armed robberies! How the hell are the midnight cars supposed to find the TIME to make stops and be proactive? They leave roll call and walk into a backlog, raps go on for hours, burglary in progress calls are given out forty minutes old, but you want these guys to make street stops.

Fom one lifelong city resident to another, move on and enjoy your life. Leave 016 in your rear view mirror. Short of Daley being arreested, prosecuted and convicted, there is nothing we can do in the short term that can stem the systemic corruption and tide of violence until Daley is gone. Both have been in the stewing caldron of corruption since 1989, when Daley became Mayor. The politicians and the criminals get their cues from Daley, subtle or overt as the cues are displayed, depending on the situation, that corruption is okay and that he is totally unsupportive of the police department, actually holding the police department as a thing of disgust.
If you recall, in February, 1955, after reform Mayor Martin Kennelly was ousted in the Democratic primary by a pudgy, lesser-known politico named Richard J. Daley, the boodling, bawdy alderman, Paddy Bauler, did his little jig and gleefully chortled : "Chicago ain't ready for reform yet" and it remains that way today in the land of Daley. Any reform attempts are stalled at our state, county and city levels, and now the tentacles reach all the way to the White House.
Until Daley is gone, with his political power essentially neutered and his tentacles, that reach beyond the city to the county, state and federal governments, are severed, AND we have a law and order Mayor that is fully supportive in all ways of the police department, and there is a Mayor that takes every step to be totally transparent in his dealings, there is nothing we can do to turn the tide.
Unfortunately, to rid ourselves of Daley, we need a Dragon Slayer, a Lone Ranger, a Palladin, or the Three Amigos (1986) to help us because of Daley's stranglehold on "our" government.
