Twenty Cents?
Blackhawks star winger Patrick Kane was arrested early this morning in his hometown of Buffalo and faces robbery and other charges after allegedly assaulting a cab driver and failing to pay the fare, according to police.
Kane, 20, and a cousin, James M. Kane, 21, are alleged to have punched the cab driver and taken back money they had given him after the driver told them he didn't have 20 cents in coins to give them exact change, according to Buffalo police spokesman Michael DeGeorge.
Drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son. In any case, a number of people were taunting the blog with comparisons to the Derrick Rose photograph controversy and attempting to make this a racial issue and daring us to write about it.
Fine. A drunk white kid with a talent for hockey made some bad choices and is facing a felony charge with a few misdemeanors tossed in for good measure. Happy? It's not like he's advertising for a criminal enterprise that's been implicated in hundreds of violent deaths, thousands of criminal acts annually and billions of dollars in illegal narcotics trafficking.
All kidding aside, this was truly dumb beyond belief.

I came home from Vegas once and I live near (I 55) and Harlem,From Midway airport, the cabbie decided to go to 63 St. a little out of the way, but out of the way no less, when I asked him why he said it was quicker, that is bullshit, he wanted to pad his tab, I knew I was taking a short trip so I always get a cab on the departure level so i do not get a cab that was waiting in line, I bet there are other issues with this cab driver, like cops the cities always keep records of driver complaints, we will find out if this cab driver has a record of problems

There may be more to the story..on the trib website, the cabby's lawer said that it is routine for cabbys to 'lock the doors' to prevent getting stiffed... sounds like kane paid, cabby did not have change, and locked the kanes inside the cab. which happens in chicago ALL THE TIME. (I work mids downtown)... While the Kanes were way out of line, why do these cabbies keep locking drunken fools in their cars? especially if they OVERpaid! The fact that the cabbys lawyer is downplaying this and not looking for a payday makes me wonder just exactly what happened....

I'd say this is worse than the "flashing" incident. This involves violence. Apparently hockey boy and his cousin have alcohol and asshole issues.
My suggestion is plead guilty to a non felony, give the cabbie a nice "tip", and apologize for being a drunken asshole. Either learn how to deal with alcohol or stay the hell away from it.
The kid is making $875,000 a year plus bonuses. Time to learn that tipping is not a bad thing especially when you are semi famous.

The cab drivers attorney was on the radio this morning down-playing the entire incident, it will NOT be a felony and more than likely will get dropped....
Kane's a very good player, but an arrogant punk. This will probably knock his attitude down a notch or two, but only for a year or two. Everyone in the NHL knows that Kane's a pussy on the ice as far as fights go, so now the hits will come twice as often against him.
It doesn't matter, though. He's only got one more year on his contract, so he's gonna be traded. The Hawks can't afford to keep both Kane and Toews now that they signed Hossa, and Toews is a better all-around player.

And sure enough, here comes the independent witness who says the cabbie locked the two men into the cab until they paid and then began the fight.
And the cabbie's neighbors are saying he has a long history of startiing brawls with customers.
Interesting. Never jump to conclusions. Remember there are always three sides to every story.
Just a thought, It occurred to me when I heard the Cab Driver's lawyer say that the situation was, "blown all out of porportion" instead of, "My poor client deserves million$$$!!!"
And it isn't to say that this is any excuse, but could Kane have been, "Taken for A Ride."
The driver thought they were college students and maybe they didn't know their way around.
From where they were picked up to their destination maybe should have been only a few dollars, not $13.80. It wouldn't be the first time a cab driver went 'round the Horn to boost a few more dollars on a slow night from kids he think are rubes who won't tip.
If they felt they were ripped off, then they would be pissed off.
