Pay-to-Park at Juvie Court?
On duty in a marked car? We're there at the behest of the justice system. We don't recall being required to have to pay out of pocket to park a city vehicle for somewhere we are ordered to be.

Today, 01SEP09, while at juvenile court a letter was posted in the police room stating starting 01OCT09 there will be no more free parking for law enforcement officers. The garage is converting to an automated system and there will be no more cashiers taking the signed tickets. There is no provision for officers on or off duty, such as a marked/unmarked squad car. The letter was written on Cook County letterhead and addressed to the sheriff's union.
Someone else said this might be starting at 26th Street? We think the County ought to set up a valet parking system and validate parking. It'll be a cold day in hell before we give Stroger a dime of our cash for this crap.

Simple solution: add juvenile arrests to the activity you should have ceased producing about 2 1/2 years ago.
This latest kick in the balls should be interpreted as yet another painfully obvious reminder that the City of Chicago, County of Cook and State of Illinois don't want us to be the police anymore.
I got the message loud and clear a long time ago and I suggest the masses follow suit sooner rather than later. It just isn't worth it anymore, boys and girls. Do the bare minimum, collect your salary and the occasional supplemental cash of Special Employment and apply your most powerful tool (after that of "arrest") of discretion towards your longevity, sanity and overall physical, mental and financial well-being.
This job is pretty much dead in the water. And barring a miracle of monumental proportions, it's only going to slowly decompose further.

That is fine with me. i will leave the police vehicle parked legally in the station lot and I will take public transportation down to the courthouse. That will kill half a day or more each time, on duty of course.
This isn't as good as watching a former commander of traffic order that all police cars, marked and unmarked, including Illinois State Police, be towed from in front of and around the old traffic court building at 321 N LaSalle St.
You should have seen the public reaction to a fleet of City tow trucks towing, CITY POLICE VEHICLES! And some Illinois State Police Vehicles.

I was told by the corp council secretary that they no longer reimburse payment for parking.

20 years ago I was at the academy for inservice training when I had to go to branch 35 at 130. I told the instructor in the morning I had court, he said "OK" til I told him I needed a car. He said to drive my own car. I said I don't drive my car when I'm on duty.
So if they won't give me a car to go to court, then I told him I had to leave at 1100 to take public transportation.....they gave me a squad.
Same thing, if you have to pay, then take the bus. If taking the bus takes all day.....then let it take all day!

First, they have no fucking respect because they know that nothings gonna happen to them if you arrest them. These "CPS honor students" knew the fucking system right off the bat. They'll even tell you to hurry up with the arrest report so that you can call momma to come and pick them up. Then you have to deal with the Youth DICKS, who also will give you another fucked up attitude and told you to wait another two hours for them to be in the station.

And the best part is that the judges at juvie court don't take the bench till about 1030 sometimes. So you pay the parking fee until they get off their ass and take the bench(while they park for free. Why would they have to pay for parking at work?)

let's see. . . you work an 8 hour shift that is in a constant backlog of radio assignments and the shift is undermanned. when you manage to make an arrest or the detectives get a fingerprint from that burglary report you wrote two years ago, and you get called to court, you usually have to go when you would normally be sleeping. you get home late the night before and go home tired from another busy night at work, often with lunch denied. you can't go to sleep right away due to the adrenaline still pumping in you so you stay awake an hour or two. then you get up early to get ready for court. it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to shower, shave, shit, eat and get dressed. then, depending on where you live, you have to drive sometimes up to an hour on some of the worst paved roads in the nation, beating up your car and trying to avoid the multitudes of uninsured, suspended drivers you know are also driving the same roads. you get to the courthouse and after parking, signing in, and getting to the courtroom another 15 minutes has passed. sometimes you hope the state will release you in 5 minutes so you can get back home and get some sleep for another backlogged, undermanned, poorly supervised shift at the CPD circus dealing with crackheads, police fighters, drug dealers, gun carrying felons, and the victims of crime who are sometimes innocent children.
so yes i will bitch if they want to charge me to park at court. there is a reason we get 3 hours automatically for signing in at court: that 3 hours covers your travel time and time devoted to appearing in court in a professional manner. By the time you go to court and come home, you have earned that 3 hours, even if all you did was sign in. that was something our union did right for us long ago.
the A hole who wrote that we should stop bitching because we get paid 3 hours for showing up has probably never gone to court on a regular basis.
we would not go to court at all if we only got paid for the 5 minutes it takes to sign in and out on some days.
have you ever gone to court and sat there for two hours and then signed out? you still only got paid for 3 hours, but almost 5 hours of your day is wasted when that happens.
again, you who think we should not complain about having to pay for parking at court are a butt munching, ass kissing jag who was never the police. we are doing the city a service by confronting and locking up those who harm the innocent and tax payers of our society. and then for the city to ask us to pay for the privilege to park while serving the city is an absolute INSULT. GFY.

First, they have no fucking respect because they know that nothings gonna happen to them if you arrest them. These "CPS honor students" knew the fucking system right off the bat. They'll even tell you to hurry up with the arrest report so that you can call momma to come and pick them up. Then you have to deal with the Youth DICKS, who also will give you another fucked up attitude and told you to wait another two hours for them to be in the station.
If no "signed complaints" why not just curfew these fucks and you don't have to deal with a headache.

court is a waste of my time and money. i can make lots more at my side job, why would i want to pay to park and kill half my day for half the pay? and with this city and county bleeding me dry with taxes i cant afford to make arrests anymore.
i haven't gone to juvenile court for years so no big deal--- juveniles must be read miranda warnings in front of parent/guardian by youth officer which means they go to court, not you.... why should i make a pinch so some desk jockey youth dic can benefit from the fruits of my labor--- they can all go out and lock up all the yutes---- if i get one i throw it back, just like an undersized fish and try for something better....

Another genius who takes too much of what's posted on SCC literally. Thankfully for you and your abject fear of lower case typing (don't talk, SCREAM), I'm not licensed to carry a firearms but instead possess an arm that fires. Stick that in your state statute and smoke it.
