Another Quarter Heard From

A whole bunch of people making sense lately. First the columnist from the Austin Weekly (surprising in and of itself) and now this writer:
  • Chicago, it’s time to move on. If Mayor Daley and the Chicago City Council could please get back to work, the city is sorely in need of attention. Starting with,

    1. The Police. The Chicago Police Department has been working for two years without a contract, under a leader they don’t trust, and are woefully understaffed.

    2. Violent crime. Taking care of the police is a pretty good start, but certainly not enough. More people are dying here than soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq. Do something. See above.

    3. Frivolous laws. Stop wasting valuable time passing laws against raising chickens in the city, serving foie gras or keeping barking dogs. There are more important things. See above.

It's supposed to be a "Top Ten" list, and while she skipped #9, her top three have been echoed on this site and numerous other cop blogs for a couple of years now.

We guess this Olympic fiasco has opened quite a few eyes. Now we have to see if it's going to open some voters eyes.

Daley doesn't care, he's done and he knows it. [abject FAILURE RECORD]. Watch for him not to run if a strong opposition candidate surfaces.

That was a very well written article. It is ashame when someone speaks the truth and those that could benefit from it most choose not to listen.

She's on the mark, the city is in flames and the Mayor is going every where else but here.

Stay home a little while Boy-O, look around, plenty needing fixing in this city.
You remember: THE PEOPLE WHO PAY YOU.
Good advice for the alder-creeps as well.
Kids get shot down in pairs like ducks, city infrastructure is shit and city employees have given their all.
How about you and the evil cabal of 50 heads get busy earning your dough. Furlough days for you all, don't make us laugh, like a millionaire giving away 20 bucks.

Daley is just a spoiled little brat that didn't get his ass kicked enough when he was a kid.
Probably never had a fight in his life, because of daddy.
Kind of explains a lot.

Treat drugs like a public health issue instead of a crime issue and that will likely halve the crime rate.

Go to the "hamsterdam" model as shown in "The Wire".

As long as they are not behind the wheel of a vehicle or committing some violent or property crime I don't give a rat's ass what someone is doing. Add some public disorder crimes to that also.

If they're stupid enough or damaged enough to want to shoot up heroin let them. Either they will die or bottom out and get help.

The costs of the drug war, including the lives of many good cops, is not worth it.

Now there would undoubtedly be some problems created by legalization, but my informed opinion is that those problems would be less severe than the problems created by the current fucked up model.

Fucking prohibition was great for the mob and this is just a form of prohibition.

Someone tell the Mayor that he can give his relatives the "weed" concession for 1/2 the city and see how fast the drug war ends. The other 1/2 of the city can go to one of REVEREND Jackson's kids.

Some years back, around 1995, the city commissioned a complete study of police operations. They interviewed hundreds of officers of different ranks and studied each unit and how manpower was utilized. The city never released that study. It might be a bit outdated at this point, but might still be interesting. Maybe it is time for another. The CPD reminds me of the results of inbreeding. The same ideas passed down to the next batch of political promotees who only use the same ideas. It seems that every decent idea used here came from NY. Their cops have a better salary, a better pension, a better promotion system and a much lower crime rate. How come?

"More people are dying here than soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq. Do something."
-----------------------------------

Again, the bad analogy of comparing soldiers deaths in combat vs. civilian murders on the homefront.

A better analogy would be to compare the number of soldiers deaths to the deaths of police officers.

When I start seeing a steady stream of IEDs detonating on our streets, I'll give the above comparison a little more credence.

Austin Weekly, We're all on the same side trying to improve Chicago and individual communities, at times Our Mayor has other objectives for himself and his associates. The News can get the word out to the Public and the CPD will do its job as it always has done its job in the past

The study was known as the Booz-Allen Study. The city paid something on the order of $8 million for a top to bottom assessment of the police department.

The big problem with that study is that Booz-Allen told the truth and the stuttering prick and his minions promptly ignored almost the whole thing.

Much of what has been written on SCC the past couple of years was suggested in that study, eliminate layers of middle management, too many bosses etc. It wasn't what daley and 'da boys wanted to hear.

There no doubt is a copy floating around somewhere. Good luck finding it.

The only thing I can recall that did actually come about because of that study is CAPS. $8 million to be told to start CAPS. The rest was forgotten because it cut into clout jobs. That was about when daley promised promotional exams every two years. He actually promised this, in the press. And immediately reneged.

So it goes. By the time of the study they were in the process of buying off the Captains and paying them some slush funds so they would sign away the rights of the rank of captain for all time.

You want to blame someone for the current mess of clout exempt captains, go blame the old time captains who took a check for a few thousand dollars and sold out their brethren.

Thanks for reading! I'm so glad to be noticed by secondcitycop. I'm a regular contributor to True/Slant (lifelong Chicagoan and Uptown resident). I hope to continue to bring attention to the things that need it. Like the police department.
Feel free to register, comment and follow me on the site. It's a national news organization, I'd like to turn the heat up.

The study didn't say what Daley wanted it to say so they hid it from everyone. But I did see a copy of it.
They also did a study of the CFD and it said even less what was wrong with them that Daley could use. But I do remember it saying that both had too MANY BOSSES & that the men & women on the street were top notch and did the best as can be expected.

I've received a number of emails letting me know that this blogsite has taken an interest in one of my columns. I thank you for that.

But I must respond to the snide comment about the Austin Weekly Newspaper. Make no mistake about it, The Austin Weekly has always covered the news and my columns have taken on issues with no regards for the feet I've stepped on or the feelings I may hurt.

The truth is the truth and I seek to forever call it as I see it.

Get back to work!

Gee all that TIF money to spend and No 'Limpics to spend it in!

No more FAT contracts with planned cost overruns and spare no expense visions for the future.

Just because Shortshanks doesn't have 'Limpic dreams anymore doesn't mean he can't bulldoze all that cash into his friend's pockets.

Screw the employees, full speed ahead. Just build it all anyway, that's the Chicago way.
