A Woman Who Gets It

  • A while back, I met a young lady who was probably in her early twenties. She told me she enjoyed reading my columns and that she had noticed that the tenor of my columns has been changing. My columns sounded angrier. And guess what? She's right!

  • We have raised a generation of children who have listened to adults emphatically always speaking about "getting their gun and doing this or that," and now we are shocked when our young people actually do it.

We have also chosen to not deal with the problem of gun violence in a realistic fashion, bypassing the fix by longing for the days when kids fought with their fists and feet.

Well folks, Derrion didn't die of a gun shot wound. He died because of fists, feet and a 2-by-4. The tape of Derrion's murder is proof positive for the entire world to see that far too many of us have allowed some of our children to become the embodiment of every atrocity that was ever heaped upon us.

Anyone who watches and listens to just the words uttered on the tape of Derrion's murder would be hard pressed not to believe it wasn't a racist lynch mob in the early 1920s.

Go read the whole thing. Hopefully she gets a whole bunch more people to look in the mirror. That's where it begins.

was hanging out with my college friends. One asked how come we all never come to blows? ( We are all loud mouth pricks.) The hard core liberal of us said there are too many guns here. (3 of us are cops.) I thought to myself:

"An armed society is a polite society."

I did not bother to voice my thoughts.....I guess he knew it instinctfully.

We only used fists and once you were knocked down, the fight was over. There was no stomping on each others heads, or pummeling each other into unconsciousness. We had our boundaries and "fair fights."

"Next, we cannot overlook the parental influence or lack thereof in raising young men and women who did what we saw on that videotape. If parents would put as much effort into raising, nurturing, educating and demonstrating proper social behavior to their children as they do in naming them, then we wouldn't have four young males, to date, being charged with murder.

No one but ourselves to blame
Arlene Jones"

Amen. Now, get back to basics and start at home. Unlike some of our political leaders whom believe morals, safety, and respect need be taught by police and teachers lets start where it belongs - home.

Arlene Jones for Mayor, or at the very least for CPS Director!!!

The writer of that column should be our next Mayor! I'd be willing to get petitions signed, assist in fund raising, etc. She's a fresh voice from the wilderness of silliness that has been the norm in Shitcago for far too long.

In 2007, the Austin Weekly News columnist, Ms. Jones, was a 37th Ward aldermanic candidate.

After watching all the usual 3 ring Circus of pile-on politicians, reverends, liberal news media commentators, etc; it dawned on me, why aren't the Reverends out on the street corners, where these gang bangers gravitate, and delivering the Word of God to them? Yeah, They will march a few blocks with the politicians, but that's it, back into the Caddy that the lemming parishinors paid for, and back in front of the wide-screen T.V. eatin some Flamin Hots...

Probably the most well written, truthful, accurate article I have ever seen from a reporter. She has my vote.

Pretty much much starts in the home. How to be courteous, polite and to handle situations of disruption with respect for each other. Yes we had fist fights too in my younger days and when that person was down, he was down and it was pretty much over. Most just shook hands and went on our way to either avoid each other or become best of friends. I have taught this to my own son and he has carried that on. I am proud of him for that he respect other people. Yes, he has a hand gun, but not to use for revenge, but for self protection and the protection of his family. Nothing more. What kids lack in todays society is self. I read in the paper and it said that kids have nothing to do! Hogwash! When we were kids, we went to the park to play ball, did errands for people in the neighborhood. There is still mant things to do. Its what we/they choose to with their time. It starts at home..........

Think of how many times as a white policeman you've been called a racist. Now, think of how many times you've risked your life in the black community. Unfortunately there are many people with the same thoughts as this author who are silenced by people like Jesse jackass who anchor situations with opinions while people like us go and risk life or limb to prevent them. The change of thought needs to start from the top, down. Until then the violence continues, without members there are no gangs, without killers the streets are only smooth ashphalt. If I'm a losing team, I fire my gm and manager, to hope my players play differently under a different philosophy. But what do I know....

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis tried today to get in front of an upcoming endorsement session by African-American ministers, announcing that he managed to finish first in his own poll on candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Cook County Board president.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Hey, wait just a minute there!

I finished first in MY poll also!

Just what are you trying to pull here, Danny Davis!

First of all, she's not running the show because she has put the common sense God gave her into use. Secondly, anyone who creates a problem is not going to be looking in the mirror after reading this because they are NOT going to read it. Assuming they can read. I don't know how many I've arrested that cannot read and write. Give em credit though, they can all count the stacks.

I personally know Arlene Jones and found her to be a person with common sense who will readily identify the problem and call out the peron who is truly responsible. She is always fair when she writes about CPD, in fact I believe one of her kids is A CPD officer.
