Info from the Community?
While not quite a first, definitely among the few instances occurring:
- Twin brothers are being accused of gunning down a young mother of three last week at an East Garfield Park bus stop.
Chicago police said an outpouring of community help lead them to Kelly and Keith Pearson in the slaying of Natasha Howliet, 20. The brothers, both 31 with reputed gang ties, were each charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 7 shooting.
"I think there was a sense of community outrage over this," Harrison Area Cmdr. Anthony Riccio said tonight. "This was a woman who was not involved in street gangs (or) narcotics. She's a mother of three, she truly was an innocent victim," Riccio said.
Finally some outrage?

young mother of 3 ???? my wife didn't grace me with my 3rd child before she was 30. and, I have a job, pension, insurance, and the whole nine yards. yes, it's a tragedy what happened, but, c'mon, just another drain on society having more kids with an uninsured, un-pensionable, un-hireable subject before she is 25 ! my tax money well spent ? I expecte we'll see more "we couldn't have done it without the citizens" bullshit coming down the pipe in the months to come.
Part of the fake "community input" campiagn to make it appear as though the "citizens" are helping the police and behind the police.
It's fake, and we'll be seeing more fake alleged citizen aid in the upcoming promotion to make it look like citizens help, in the misguided thinking that citizens will hear about this and actually help.

They arrested an on-view burglar in an indian restaurant in Rogers Park once. They eventually wrote it up that a "citizen" made the physical arrest, and gave out an award, to show "citizen involvement" and create comfort that the community was "fighting back". What Riccio did was small potatoes, this has been going on for years
Anyone out here know if the rumor about street gang members out to kill 141 or 144 women as part of a gang initiation? Rumor was heavily floating on the westside last weekend with folks getting text messages early in the week.

Heard a variation at the desk in 21this week- a Woman called claiming she was told Hispanic Gang memebers were being required to kill 144 ? African American women in order to prove thier worth?
Riccio is a great guy unlike all the others. Area 4 has a great boss. You guys are lucky.. He is missed in 16 and he should be the next Supt or Tom Byrne (the younger one)

Just another urban myth to strike fear into the hearts of the gullible. When I was a kid it was the "escaped maniac," which devolved into the "serial killer," that we all had to be afraid of. These gang initiation rumors seem to crop up every few months, and the worldwide web gives goofballs with nothing better to do a way to spread misinformation.

Worked for Riccio in Area 3, and he's actually a great guy for everyone. Sure he's got friends, doesn't everyone. But he's there when you need him and that's all that matters.

ONLY PART OF THE STORY. HE'S BEEN A DETECTIVE, A SERGEANT IN THE D, AND A LIEUTENANT IN THE D. HE KNOWS HIS SHIT AND HANDLES THE MEDIA PERFECTLY.
Riccio is NOT one of THEM. He is one of the last of the good guys.
If you don't know him it's because you don't work much anyway and if you are worker he at least would take the time to recognize your efforts and thanks you for them.
I didn't know him at all but after a while of working for him, he would greet me by my first name and would always thank you for your effort.
How many bosses today give a F@ck about you and what you do and let alone your name. All they care about is how many BS events you generated and how much BS you could pretend to have accomplished for the day.
He is definately NOT of of them I would work for him anywhere. And those who haven't don't know what a good boss is.
