Scc, I was in Pittsburgh for the G-20 summit. I'm very happy to say that myself and about 60 or 70 PO's and bosses were assigned to days. We didn't fuck up anything!! So for everybody reading this, not everybody that attended the trip acted like foolish assholes. Please keep that in mind.

I just wanted to say that 15OCT09 is the day i unofficailly retired. I've only got but 8 years on, but i just can't take the beating anymore.
It's just not worth it. Going out there trying to work and improve the quality of life for the decent hard working people and getting nothing in return and no back up from the bosses or public.
This job is not what i thought it was going to be. Even for someone like me that really wants to work, you just can't. You constantly get beat down. By the people, media, bosses. I saw this on a blog a few weeks ago called "The Agitator".
The writer covers police and prosecutorial silliness from a libertarian perspective. Stuff like prosecutors charging 17 year old girls as sex criminals for texting naked pics to their boyfriends.
I didn't pay much attention and didn't realize this video was CPD. I just read the story and didn't look at the video.

As for the CPD member and possibly CCSPD member involved, I thought I saw their patch on the officer near the end of the video, they do deserve to be disciplined.
There were at least two supervisors involved and they deserve severe discipline. Termination? I hate to say it but.........

I remember this type of thing happening during the mid 80's, the "funny hat phoney religious gang's" raids and they had them all at 35 and Shields or maybe it was the academy gym and some guys starting posing for photos.
Capt spoke to camera cop about an inch from his ear and walked away with the cheap camera. The camera was sitting smashed next to a bunch of lockers the whole fucking day, film tore out.

He will first get pissed at the city after cancel a couple of meetings, stall, change members of their team, get caught lying, fail to open up the city books, and we will get a larger raise than the city wants to give us but smaller than we want. A picture of someone taking a picture is not proof of a picture. It proves that they went through the actions that someone takes while posing for a picture. Still this is an embarrassment x 100

I just wanted to say that 15OCT09 is the day i unofficailly retired. I've only got but 8 years on, but i just can't take the beating anymore.
It's just not worth it. Going out there trying to work and improve the quality of life for the decent hard working people and getting nothing in return and no back up from the bosses or public.

This happens more than people know. What was surprising was that channel 7 put it on the air.
We have come a long way since Rodney King beating, now the CPD does photo opps with its prisoners, just good public relations for the Department, maybe he was given a survey after the photo as well.

Funny? Funny how? Cozzi did not laugh? Have fun? With the current administration, what do you mean? Any attention, media attention and they will pay dearly. Unless their is clout or exempts are involved. Perform security work with on duty officers on a restricted airfield and be promoted. Carry a firearm past a security checkpoint in a airport and nothing. Own a condo being used for drugs and guns and nothing. So, tell me, funny how?

I've seen worse, er, well not actually seen worse, however, I've heard of much worse things occuring with an arrestee. It violates one GO, but the hippie doesn't seem to be any worse for the wear!
Bottom line: During my short tenure as a sergeant, promoted from the list by test score, I've occasionally had to take a unpopular position the guys didn't fully agree with which kept us in compliance with Department policy and out of the shit. Of course thats because I new what the orders were in the first place, and tempered with common sense, applied them to a real life situation. And when I saw the dept. notice for the time-and-one-half road trip tp Philly, and who was accepting the application, I realized there was no way I would be selected to go! Good luck clout bosses. I hope the money was real good! Private lawyers tend to be expensive.

U ever heard of a set up???? I remember when I was new on the job and people wanted pictures taken of being put in handcuffs or being stuffed in a squad car. Those days are over. The impulsive action to take a picture with a jovial arrestee was a bad idea under the circumstances. I say this because we have all heard the speeches about cameras and we all watch the news. But the condemnation and cries for “heads on platters” equals those doing such to any west side mutt who gets in front of the news camera claiming “they shot him down like a dog!”.
Was there any reason to do this? No. Despite the fact that journalist major Kramer was enjoying every second of his arrest experience, the picture and aftermath just paid his College Education since the pay outs are automatic. But I am happy that it goes to someone who is not dealing, robbing, stealing, and trying to turn his life around to take care of his 3 year old baby. Kramer actually IS working towards something. And as in all Police cases, the dollar tree grew when the lawyer called to plant the seed.
Before any of you short minded people refer to me as an “asshat” and spew your contempt for everything and everyone bear in mind a couple of things. All you do is write of how fucked up the department is and how inept the bosses are, how overworked and under supported you are. However, the bulk of the “entitlement generation” patrolmen that are on this job bitch, cry, and moan when they are told so much as to direct traffic at an accident scene. So many comment on the actions of those who "do" while sitting comfortably in their cars just barely answering calls and spending more time deriving ways to avoid work. This is a great job. If you think otherwise, go work for a living.
Back to the topic at had, the pic---pay the kids schooling and lawyer, let him spring-board his career in journalism, lay down a few suspensions, and move along. The kid wasn’t beaten, he willingly participated and enjoyed his experience until the lawyer called. Curious to know whose idea the kneeling action was? As for bad press, stop watching the news or reading the paper because that’s all there is. Disagree with that, answer this — Aside for stories of Policemen saving people from burning buildings before fire wakes up and gets to the scene, how many other positive stories are reported about us? I’ll give you a hint, it’s a low number.

I think that yo have gone off half cocked here. This is similar to what the public saw of th Rodney King arrest in LA some years ago. You have no idea who the schmuck is in the photo, you cannot see the handcuffs in the video, if there are any at all and for al you know, junior slid into the phot that a Sgt was taking of his platoon.
Unlike you to not get all the facts before you post a topic. I agree that the picture itself is in bad taste, but to liken it to an Iraqi prison photgraph is unfathomable.

Parents need to step up
Looks like the Rev. Jesse Jackson has another brainstorm. He wants parents trained to do police work, to protect students. Maybe Jackson could advise parents to walk their children to school. The city cannot afford to pay parents to do what they are supposed to do, such as being a parent.
If people have no clue how to raise a child, then don't have children. The police in Chicago are overburdened and do a great job with what they have. Recently, people were complaining about the police having a pension. What other jobs do you lose weekends, work undesirable hours and risk your life for people who in this day and age are ungrateful? Maybe if parents were parents, and the parents let teachers discipline the troublemakers, the school system could be better.

Hate to tell you this, but I work at 35th street and reviewing who went, majority 90% were the enwer college grad kids,guess the education was wasted? No promotion to Sergeant unless 15 yoj of which the last three consecutive MUST HAVE BEEN IN PATROL... PERIOD. (Hint: inside track for FTO's who are PROVEN teachers/mentors.)
No promotion to Lieutenant unless 20 yoj of which the last five consecutive MUST HAVE BEEN IN PATROL...

Some learn faster than most, many learn at varying stages of the journey, and some never learn.
If working brings you a sense of personal pride, then so be it, but be aware, the department, the city and most of the citizens do not give a darn about you or your work. Plus, you are in a minority with an ever decreasing number.
Also, it is not an all or nothing matter. You can still be professional and non-attitudinal and still do your job, while, at the same time, exercising discernment and care as to where and when you perform the undefinable above and beyond.
Stay safe and stay together.
It's shameful, is what it is. Demeaning, not only to the arrested man, but to the men and women who went out there and represented us as law enforcement professionals.
While I for one will be glad to see the WEISel leave, I suspect incidents like this (the 'imposter' in 003) and other embarrassments will bring a smile to WEISel's face as he bolts for the door in the near future, with the remainber of his contract ($ from Shortshanks) in hand.

Can some one check to see who these officers are and who they may be related to. This is something that a group of officers would do if they were not working the streets that often. Change is so very slow in coming to the Chicago Police Department but occasionally it does happen.
Today there was a meeting of FOP Unit Reps to inform the Reps of the latest development in the ongoing negotiations regarding the alternate work schedule.
The FOP and the City have come to an agreement that the 21 Districts not already in a pilot program will go to the 4 and 2 work schedule beginning 1st Period, 2010. This NOT a pilot program, this is permanent and is essentially a done deal, according to Mark Donahue.
Desk crews and lockup personnel are included. This is also being offered to the sergeants. It is not, however, being offered to Captains and Lieutenants. Go figure.
A few details have yet to be worked out but all reps were told it will happen and start 1st Period 2010.
The 4 Districts working either 10 hour days or the 6 and 3 schedule will continue in those schedules as pilot programs. The 4 and 2 for the other 21 Districts is not a pilot program, that is our new schedule.
Working day furloughs will be converted into hours. BFD Days also will be worth 8 hours. Personal Days are worth one working day. There will be 6 day off groups rotating backwards.
This is monumental change to an organization that generally moves slower than a glacier goes down a mountain. It is good day for the rank and file. Nothing was given up to get this schedule and arbitration on the issues of our contract still in dispute will go forward.

Should these guys be given the punishment your suggesting? No. If your on the job long enough your gonna fuck up and as long as your not stealing or helping drug dealers, when you fuck up, we should stand behind our brothers in blue and hope that when its over, everything is ok. All those Officers have families and we need to remember that. United we stand. Divided we fall.
