More Lightbars Stolen

On an unsecured lot of an outside vendor:

Two more Chicago police light bars have been stolen from Trans-o-matic repair shop located @ 7200 w Irving park road on todays date. 11Jan10.

  • Comment #2 - Heard another set of mar lights stolen from a squad car in the belmont heights neighborhood in 016. For units that take home there cars just be careful what you keep in your cars at night. There was a DEA agent down the street from me had ammunition and bullet proof vest taken.
Not sure if these are the same incidents. We know the City subcontracts out just about all squad car repairs nowadays. Windows, body damage, engine work, etc. But shouldn't there be standards of some sort? Secure lots and buildings? In today's post-9/11 world, shouldn't someone be thinking outside the box, looking at asymmetrical threats, trying to connect the dots to head off the next attack?

The Department has known about these light bar thefts for a while now. We were tipped off reading Shaved's blog. And now we're being told that 016 sent out a letter to make officers aware that take-home cars appeared to have been targeted.

How about making everyone else aware of this? What point is there to keeping fellow officers in the dark? And what point (if any) is served by keeping citizens in the dark when we're supposed to be relying on them to be our eyes and ears when we can't be everywhere at once? Oh wait...this is Chicago...we must be covering for some incompetent political hacks who spent federal money destined for anti-terror efforts on some crooked contract for printing pamphlets or paneling a den or some other crap.

35th/Michigan is thinking out of the box SCC. During a meeting to discus the disappearance of the light bars they came up with the idea of dropping the entrance exam to become the Police. They figure if they can't catch the criminal then they would invite them to join us.

Hello out there, fellow gang and tactical warriors!

Fear not, for I have devised a plan to help catch the evil "Lightsaber Bandit."

Tonight I will strip down naked and paint one half of my body blue, the other half bright white. I will then go out into the city and lay on top of misc. cars in hopes to lure the evil desperado out. First, I will start out in Mt. Greenwood, then, if he does not attempt to "jack" me, I will head over to the 20th and 23rd districts.

Be forewarned villain, if you or one of your henchmen happens to grab my dingus, then the "Use of Force Model," is going out the window! Ah, I smell an honorable coming my way.

Until next time, Delta Force warriors, be safe out there!

Outside the box? Logic would suggest that all police equipment should be in-house, period. The world we live in is fucked up. This is a prime example. I wouldn't want my husband working in a vehicle that was fixed in a shop with mob connections or owned by Abdul Benabdallah. Don't investigators put GPS chips on the undercarriages of vehicles? Gee, it would be nice to maybe follow a squad and then ambush the occupants if someone was so inclined. The priorities of the heads of CPD appears more and more to have nothing to do with law enforcement, the safety of officers, crime prevention or solving and everthing about winning a beauty contest. And the biggest contestant has the initials J.W.

Concerning squad trunks, the trunks on Crown Vics can be opened without keys in about 10 seconds by someone who knows how to circumvent the lock (very easy if you know what to do). Anything secured in the trunk of a sensitive nature like shotguns, etc. should have a secondary lock. Once the dogs figure that out, I wouldn't be surprised if every take home car didn't end up with a busted out trunk.

Just to add a bit of seriousness to this topic, this is a very dangerous situation. The FBI and DHS have been aware for quite some time that there is a great possibility that "cloned" emergency vehicles could or would be used to carry out suicide attacks against "soft" targets. There also is the possiblity that these "cloned" vehicles could be used against first responders as a secondary device during a major incident or attack. It's our nature to put a satirical spin on crime, but while you poke fun at it, keep it in mind that this could be the precursor to a very nasty event perpatrated by some very cunning and determined people. It could be nothing more than high jinx and shenanigans, then again...Be safe, watch your six.

From Crains this morning:

Cabrini-Green redevelopment project gets bailout money from city of Chicago
By: Thomas A. Corfman January 11, 2010

The Daley administration is bailing out the developer of the high-profile Cabrini-Green redevelopment on the Near North Side, sidestepping a default on a $32-million construction loan that would be a punch in the gut to the ambitious plan to remake the city's public-housing projects.

The administration has agreed to pay a $3.4-million public subsidy early, lowering the sales target needed to get the money and trimming the number of homes in the 263-unit, mixed-income condominium development, which has been hurt by slow sales. The deal funnels badly needed cash to a venture led by developer Peter Holsten that on Dec. 15 was unable to pay off a J. P. Morgan Chase & Co. construction loan. As part of the deal, the bank tentatively agreed to extend the loan, and new investors are injecting cash into the project, which has seen its budget increase 8%, to nearly $105 million, since construction began in 2006.

Cabrini redevelopment project map
Because of its prime location, the Cabrini project is the centerpiece of Mayor Richard M. Daley's 10-year-old Plan for Transformation that calls for tearing down many Chicago Housing Authority high-rises, where about 26,000 families have lived in isolated silos of poverty. The mayor's goal is to replace the buildings with smaller, mixed-income communities where public-housing residents live alongside neighbors who paid market prices for their homes.

*****************

Bailout money!? I thought the City was broke, and THEY were in need of a bailout? This is news here, folks - public knowledge that the city is GIVING AWAY OUR MONEY, and then crying broke at the same time. I wonder how the Daley crime family is connected to the developer, and how such a disbursement of funds can occur without any oversight. Hello, Feds? Yeah, blatant corruption going on here. Writing's on the wall. Are you guys going to come get this asshole or will we have to string him up on the Picasso as a warning to the rest of the corrupt assholes that we're not going to take it anymore?

First it was the 2016 Olympic Games, now it's the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Chicago is not included on the list of 18 sites that could host World Cup matches if the U.S. wins its bid to host the 2018 or 2022 games.

Twenty-seven cities were vying to make the first cut.

The list of 18 will be trimmed to 12 if the U.S. bid is successful. Kansas City, Mo., and Indianapolis were the only Midwestern cities to make the cut.

Hey 4:30 PM I remember almost running a PO over at Logan and Western for that stolen squad...from 024? or 023? Thank God I didn't. The car was cornered and we all got out to do whatever and then the guy took off again. I got back in my ride and did U turn only to have a young copper push himself off my quarter panel. Office, if your still on the job, my apologies.

I don't need a meet and greet; I'm voting for this guy.

He bucked the Daley system and that tells me most of what I need to know about him. The rest can be found on any of those candidate websites.

Is this a joke post? After what Obamao and his cronies are doing to this nation, after we are all about to get hammered in taxes on our "Cadillac" health plan, you seriously would consider voting for another Dem?

You are more out of touch than Missy the parking ticket guru.

Southside police ARE too aware and streetwise. I purposely moved in next door to a convicted felon that was growing five million dollars worth of weed in his attic and had an arsenal of weapons that would make Smith & Wesson green with envy because that MF'er ain't gonna let nobody he don't know near his crib let alone my lightbars.

AMFN Message 20101908 to be released 13JAN2010:

To augment the citywide implementation of GPS in just about every imaginable piece of expensive police crap Deputy Supt Dugan will issue an order that requires every patrol officer to wear one of the new suppository shaped personal mini-GPS locators.

Just bend over at roll call and shove one of these babies right up your ass so the W/C and OEMC and IPRA and IAD can tell right where your ass is at all times.

When you come in for checkoff just walk over to the the GPS recepticle/storage device and sterilizer and drop trou and shit the thing right out again.

Use the bidet feature to clean up your arse a bit and that is that, another day at the CPD.

This device will be named the Weis/Huberman rectal police officer locator device. Any officer caught by Inspector Big Bird not wearing one of these will be immediately written up and issued a SPAR form and disciplined severely. You will get your ass reamed out but good!

Finally, a job for Inspector Big Bird worthy of his talents, sticking his nose way up my ass checking for my personal GPS device.

Hispanic Votes Are bought Cheap:

Burke pleads guilty to passing out about 7,000 pumpkin pies and hams over the holidays — all donated by Pete’s — the local grocery story — to Burke’s brother, Ald. Edward Burke’s 14th Ward organization. Most voters got coupons to redeem the hams and pies at the store. On top of that, he gave out free turkeys to the poor and passed out about 2,000 cards that give voters 20 percent discounts on prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications, Dan Burke said.

Pete"s Market the store that rips off everyone! Advertises 1 price then socks you with a higher price! Unless your eddie burke then they open a "special lane" and the king walks in and out! Jimmy D. (He is greek 100%) the owner pays burke back for having consumer services leave him alone with his register price ripoff!

But our great mayor thinks we are over paid, lazy and ignorant... Interesting, how about our contact? It would be nice if the mayor would show us little respect, finalize our contract, support us and then I bet crime and light bars would not be missing. In the mean time thanks lord daley, your the greatest mayor ever!

If this happens to an organized effort of stealing light bars then we are in serious shit.
It only takes a socket set to take one of these. Look at them. No security whatsoever.
Station security is a joke, let alone parking lot security or take home car security.
Are we the only police dept. in the world that has NO SECURITY? I go to a small town in New Zealand and they have a secured police facility with bullet proof glass and cars behind a locked gate!
WE ARE A LAUGHING STOCK OF A POLICE DEPT. WITH A WORTHLESS POLITICAL LEADERSHIP WHICH DOESN'T KNOW OR UNDERSTAND POLICE WORK!

I'll say this, the frequency of these thefts has increased over the past year, in 016. Either the guy's fetish is getting stonger, or the timetable for something really bad was moved up. I say we think out of the box and remove all light bars temporarily; and then any car with one is the opposition and subject to a "shoot on sight" order. The reporting for any such shooting will be the completion of a Misc. card. No RD numbers, as they are being rationed due to expense.

A little tussle?? Are you nuts! This guy, who should've been fired two trips to callback ago, had to be tackled to the ground by 22nd district officers. I hope his clout doesn't save him on this one because we are looking at another Abbate slap in the face with P.K. in the very near future. Hey Pat, what happened to your facebook page you tool???

A firemans beater SUV with his fire gear was stolen about a month ago in 016. Noone would want this truck, it was bought so he could drive to the ghetto and not worry about it. It survived the west side, but not Edison Park. They probably looked inside the rear window, saw the fire gear, OR saw the union sticker on the back and took the whole truck. This definitely looks like someone collecting light bars, emergency equipment, etc. for something.

OT: two houses on either side of mine in Forest Glen got their copper gutters and downspouts stolen in the middle of the day last Saturday. Broad daylight, no one saw them. Owners in both houses not home at the time.
016's officers are writing tickets to speeders on Cicero while garages are being broken into and houses vandalized. Why would anybody be writing tickets for the revenue grab by this city?

The problem is the D-Unit is undermanned and the city takes the cheap route on every single piece of equipment we own so a retarded monkey could steal it with a crescent wrench.

Thank God someone brought this up. I wanted to earlier but I was afraid everyone would call me a nerd. I had my Lightbars sitting on my dresser, right next to my MIB Hans Solo and Darth Vader giant PEZ dispensers when I went into work last Tuesday for 3rd watch. Went out for a few and when I got home the space between my ....what....oh, uh nevermind.
