Another Altar Boy Lawsuit
- The mother of a high school junior fatally shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer last September filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city.
In the suit filed today in Cook County Circuit Court, attorneys for Natasha Williams, whose son, Corey Harris Jr., was killed last Sept. 11, said the officer acted recklessly during the incident and that the city is liable.
Just after the shooting, police said the off-duty officer saw Harris fire shots at someone, leading to the pursuit. But the suit claims the officer -- dressed in plain clothes -- never identified himself as police and shot the teen in the back.
Law enforcement sources had told the Tribune that a weapon wasn't found with Harris, but at least one of the sources said he might have tossed the weapon during the chase. Police eventually recovered a .40-caliber handgun. The suit refutes that Harris ever had a weapon.

Didn't the newspaper story mention that the young scholar was a star athlete, a good boy, and a father? And he was 17 years of age. A future Derrick Rose perhaps, the lost future earnings there will be enormous.
We will have to be wearing head cams 24/7 to protect ourselves from these types of horseshit lawsuits.
I know, we are sworn to take police action but I wonder how this officer will feel when the lawsuit is finally finished.
Will he simply call 911 next time? That is what we are required to do at the minimum. One doesn't have to put one's self on the line for death, injury, criminal charges and lawsuits just because one piece of shit shot another piece of shit.
A number of beefs ago I decided to only use the cell phone if I or my family wasn't personally being attacked. Let the on-duty police handle this shit, too much potential for getting caught up in shit.

Sorry dear citizens, it just isn't worth it any more. With concealed carry coming, the citizens can soon learn what happens when they shoot someone and then have to justify same. Where to even begin? We don't hear the race card here, I do believe the involved officer was black, which is a nice change of pace. However this also points out a huge problem in society. Had it been a white officer this story would have a whole different twist. Since it wasn't I will not go into that subject.
Quite honestly what difference does it make if the Officer screamed from the roof tops he was the police?? Say it was a good citizen trying to do the right thing after WITNESSING a shooting. He was an armed citizen trying to defend the life of another human being(used that term loosely).
The 17 YEAR OLD father and basketball player and the media has to portray that as a positive thing, bullshit.
Momma who is NO WHERE NEAR the scene is gonna protest that her son has done no wrong and didn't have a gun. I remember the interviews on the news and the neighbors made it pretty clear her kid was a piece of shit. They seemed pretty clear that the Officer was the police, and dude had a gun.

And any future law-abiding handgun owner in Chicago should ask themselves "Can you kill someone?". Just say yes or no. If no, then you shouldn't get a gun.
I do agree that self preservation should be your top priority, but saving the lives of others (even strangers) too is best. If you do try to stop a forcible felony with lethal force such as this officer has done, then I hope you stay safe.
