Seven people were arrested and several police officers were injured during an early Saturday morning street fight involving more than 100 people on the Northwest Side.
Police responded to the large disturbance near the 5600 block of West Grand Avenue around 1:45 a.m., and several officers sustained “non-life threatening injuries” while trying to break up the fight, police News Affairs [...] said.
Several of the suspects refused orders to quit fighting and verbally and physically assaulted officers responding to the disturbance, [...] said. Police also used tasers and pepper spray to quiet the disturbance, she said.
5600 West? That's Central Avenue, isn't it? There's some sort of municipal structure there, something built on a haunted Indian burial ground?
Well, at least it was a short trip to the lock-up. Get well soon officers.

There is a bar on the southwest corner of Parkside & Grand; the former "Smiler Coogans". I believe it's some kind of "ethnic" joint now.

IPRA was at 025 all day Saturday pulling the hard drives from the Tahoes even though the cameras were never on. Remember the camera and mics are always running even if your not logged on. This should be interesting are the higher ups going to stand by their guys or will 025 midnights be thrown under the bus again???

daley will regret nothing he does not care what happens to the police,as a matter of afct his own D-3 paid valets cannot stand the jag many have been speaking out finally! Work special at cta and talk to them all the shit they go through but they get the D-3 pension that is why they stay plus all the overtime! Same as burkes he is just like daley!
this fight was at Major Hall. It's a shithead bar at Grand/Major. Home to the Imperial Gangsters. Lately a Black Promoter has been filling up the place. Problems Started right away. Second time in a month a fight broke out at that place.
someone threw a bar of zest at the homeless people...this created a frenzy and drove the stinkers stark raving mad.

The offenders are M/1's years ago it was a nice quiet bar.
When I worked in 025, some of the younger guys would head there, to Smiler Coogan's after watch. It was a brawl in the making 25 years ago. I guess it still is.

"Smiler Cougan's" was a great place to go...when you were in the OLD (pre-025) 15th.
And if "5600 block of West Grand Avenue" came from a news story, if probably came from some kid reporter on the phone to the desk or the WC or whoever would talk to him or her.
It's a wonder that they get anything right after that expensive education in journalism school.

It's an Hispanic bar that, for some reason, plump women in too tight spandex and bad high heels seem to frequent...and also stand around outside...even in the cold weather...about 400 yards from an Area.

According to the news, the dogs they listed as arrested for fighting with Police are all 18-20 years old.
On Parkside and Grand there is a Mexican bar. The bar where this happened at is called Major Hall, located at Grand and Major. Now, they usually rent the hall out to young black kids and once they get out at about 2 AM all hell breaks loose.
We have been called there multiple times. But this is the first time in which these black kids kept fighting and even jumped on a fellow officer (some skinny white PO, I don't know his name but he is a good guy).
There is a bar at Parkside & Grand, but what were all those 18-20 yr olds doing there? Maybe it is time to start cracking down on all these places that serve underage drinkers.

Time for a building inspection. A good, thorough, by-the-book inspection can be like a bolt of lightning. Inadequate number of outlets with faulty grounds wired with too-small wire, inadequate ventilation in restrooms, which do not have easily-cleanable,impervious flooring, inadequate number and size of exits for projected number of patrons, evidence of insect and rodent infestation around food service area...the next time you see this joint it'll be a tire repair place or something.
