That work week is great. Wouldn't mind workin an extra half hour to get all those days off though

I really don't like it; over some 27yrs I was pretty happy with those two 3-day weekends (often with a fourth tacked on).
But I am not the future of the Department and my opinion should not matter. What matters is the people who have to spend the next twenty years in a day off group.
And THEY seem to really like it, so that's how it should be. Things change.
Mass transit was shot down for the 4 and 2 why? Maybe the labor affairs boss another political hack was told by daley to stop it!
I don't think there's any denying the 4&2. Realistically, it's only another 15-20 minutes a day. Let's be honest, 10 hours is a long time especially if you're having a shitty day. 4&2 rocks. Couldn't be happier. The bullshit of having to burn a half hour with bfd's sucks but it's worth it.
I love it. I feel like I'm never at work.

O.T. - The FOP Executive Bd. currently only has two representatives, who are college graduates. Donahue and Capps. have college credentials. The rest have nothing. They are the FOP's leaders. I forgot three of them are on the FOP Hockey team.

It's a hell of a lot better than the long burn out 6 day work week. I hoping the FOP pushes for the 3 and 2 schedual.

Start times suck. Bumped back and forth on start times. An hour and a half shouldn't make a big difference, but it does; there's just something about getting up at 4 a.m. vs 5:30 a.m. It's great to only be on the street 4 days in a row, though.
OT - went to Mike McCotter's retirement party tonight. Nice turnout. One question...WFT is up with Sam Christensen (sp) and that ponytail!?
The extra hour is killing me (wink, wink). Instead of going to bed at 0200, I'm up until 0400.
Just when I'm getting back into the working rythm, my RDO's come around again...damn!

The greatest thing since baby furlough days. If they take it away I will quit. But not till I get shoulder surgery and knee surgery and foot surgery.
We get 4 and 2 and Bill Cozzi still rots in a Louisiana Federal Prison.
Better we work 6/2 and Cozzi was back in a car answering calls in 025.
I saw much much worse than what Cozzi did and the people are still working. One big fat lunk of a disgusting slob of a policeman is still on the job with over 100 brutality complaints and over 5 years suspension time!
Cozzi gave out what was deserved. Most PO's in faster districts did the same or saw the same. That is how you have to handle the idiots. What would they have us do? "Verbal judo" them into submission? Right.
Sure, I like 4/2, but our superintendent is a slithery lying serpent surrounded by kiss asses and our mayor is 100% corrupt.

Don't care for the earlier start times but I still love the 4-2. It came just in time too because I don't think I could have handled one more year of 6-2's.

I like the six and three. Nothing like having three days off every week. Even my wife is jealous. Screw the four and two, give me the six and three.
I love the 4/2's. By the time my RDO's come around, I don't feel as burned out as I did on the 6/2's.
As for missing the 3 day weekends, I don't! As for having to burn more time, I haven't. But it's only been 2 months so let's see what happens when 1 year has gone by.

Then you are in luck. The department is purchasing more segways. 500 in 2010 and 500 in 2011. They will be parceled out among the 25 districts and put to use by 1st watch personnel.
For the first 2 hours of the watch, while you have been waiting for a car, you and your partner will be issued segways. The helmets with the revolving red lights will be optional.

from what i heard some of the tac guys in the unit called downtown and cried that they didn t want their weekends off taken away and have them put into dayoff groups because there is no problems on the trains on weekends.typical f@$k the rest of the unit its all about me.....

Why can't we work one on (24 hours)and three off?
I don't care for it, I use too much of my own time when I want to take off. I guess that's what they want us to do use our time so they don't have to pay too much in the end. So I decided not to take any time off and work stressed and mistreating the good citizens of this city.
it sucks.. days off fly by. no more three day weekends. burning way more time due than the old schedule and more than the 6 on 3 off schedule. work week goes by quick only working 4 days but its not worth how fast days off go and the amount of time due used.. lets not forget, its not the time at work that I cherish, its my time off and I would much rather have three in a row off or 4 in a row off than two days... I dont care how many days less per year it ends up being its still only two in a row every week. 4 and two sucks... I said it months ago and nobody belived me.

there was falling out between po's on 3rd watch then as usual inspectors showed up same week, after calls were made to straighten up their acts. Lack of activity on 2nd watch. Do you ever see any uniformed patrols on trains? Still is a clout heavy watch!!!! Still taking out patrol cars and takin' care of personal biz ie. shopping, taking kids to school,and relaxing in squads, no where in sight of trains/buses looking for their next free meal. Sgt's can't even get a grip on do nothings and have to answer up on calls and 1st watch well they don't even exist, except on paper. Lt. doesn't give a poop and why should po's sleeping in personal cars. 1st district midnite parking lot detail!!!! There is an Orange line train that runs above on elevated tracks maybe they are looking for pickpockets w/ binoculars. nah! they are just resting up for their part-time gigs. More Sgt's working than po's most of the time. Don't think brass doesn't have a lil bird gettin' the dope on these bird brains. Then they have the gall to wonder why they didnt' get new watch schedule. No one to blame but themselves!!!!!

Also heard that uniformed officers on all the watches are still collecting paychecks for doing nada! sleeping, shopping and personal errands just as they have for years. don't ya think Da Brass at 35th street know that since up until last moves were made that you still had to have a phone call to get in the unit! little birds are everywhere!!! I cant reply on the 4-2 since I only work Tues, Wed, Thurs (1000-1200 with an hour lunch in there) and off Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. My schedule sounds tough but I do like it. Oh wait I have to get back under Jody's desk. Sorry boss whats that again-oh lick your left nut now OK Sir!!!

The 10 hr program is the best. You are off 52 more days than the old schedule. The 4 day weekends are GREAT. With the 4 and 2 , you will burn all your comp time up. Which the city wants. Has the city ever done anything to benefit the P.O.'s?
IMHO, 4-2 is good for patrol. 10hr days for tact and gang teams, d-unit, msf and tru, ET’s, crime lab, etc, etc. It saves patrol from the 6th day burnout and it puts support units in the field 20 of 24hrs every day. This will also save the city money not having to pay as much OT in the d-unit since there will be an overlap between watches. ET's and crime lab will also overlap watches reducing wait times while patrol is protecting crime scenes. Everyone in administrative spots will be fri/sat or sun/mon rdo having to work the street on the weekend day they are working allowing the regular beat officers to use comp time on the weekend.

EXACTLY!!!!
The 10 hour day has reduced crime in the 005th district! Stats show the overlap works, the bad guy is confused (more then normal) there is more coverage on the streets.
Keep the 10 hour day in 005 and everyone else can do what they like. It works for us!!!

I work the 4 and 2 on Midnights in a busy district and it is great so far. I dont burn as much time because I am not as tired as I was on the 6 and 2. So far so good.

It's great, but why are admins in News Affairs working a 4-2 schedule when they work inside HQ??!!!
Some of you actually think we have a say in this? Our union doesn't even have a say in this. But for the record 4-2 sucks. Why don't we do a larger scale 4-3? The city is giving us what benefits them the most. We in general will burn our comptime, taking days off for weekends. With 4-3 little will burned. 4-2 is the only schedule the city is seriously considering. The only reason of this trial period is to see if it really works in the city's favor, otherwise back to 6-2. Sorry., peons.

I'm just guessing, but if you look at all those trial districts schedules and add-up time taken off I bet the 4-2 schedule will have the most. Worked special employment yesterday and the tension is building between officers in the unit. Should have only included uniformed watches in proposal and might consider later. Desk Crews were not giving up their weekends off, either! Also heard that O'Neill is in golf league with both tact guys

4 and 2 was not a favor to us people.
I used to have a 25 working day furlough now I have 200 hours. Ok let's redo their Romper Room fucking math... if the work day is now 8.5 hours it should be 25 X 8.5 which equals 212.5 hours thus alleviating me from burning a half hour for each day I'm on vacation. Also if they were smart enough to make a personal day a full 8.5 day why not BFD's?
The 4 & 2 makes it easier for them to justify not hiring.. go to any district and we are stumbling over each other. (At least on the A & A's which is what they look at to show "MANPOWER" reality is we are sitting around waiting for cars!) The smoke and mirror trick of more cops on the street!
Sure it's nice to have a short work week but what do they have up their sleeves? what will be in the "new contract"? WATCH OUT! I hear the zippers now!

The 4/2 SUCKS! With over 20yrs. on, I would "bid" to 003 if they went back to "ROTATING". Alot of people cried about how difficult it was. Quite a few Officers that were around back then, agree, that was MUCH BETTER than this B.S. of 4/2.
Some study, somewhere, done by someone, said that rotating was "a strain on the body". Guess what - the 4/2 is an even bigger strain!!!!

Sam is a hillbilly. Ask him. He'll tell you the same thing. He is also one of the best bosses we've had on the job. Wish we had him and 5 more like him up there now. A little common sense and straight talk would fix a lot of this nonsense going on.

That Virginia shit kicker Sam Christian is a pimp and one thing he never had was common sense. He fucked over some very good people, for no good reason. There were no sad faces on the day he retired. Good riddance.

there was falling out between po's on 3rd watch then as usual inspectors showed up same week, after calls were made to straighten up their acts. Lack of activity on 2nd watch. Do you ever see any uniformed patrols on trains? Still is a clout heavy watch!!!! Still taking out patrol cars and takin' care of personal biz ie. shopping, taking kids to school,and relaxing in squads, no where in sight of trains/buses looking for their next free meal. Sgt's can't even get a grip on do nothings and have to answer up on calls and 1st watch well they don't even exist, except on paper. Lt. doesn't give a poop and why should po's sleeping in personal cars. 1st district midnite parking lot detail!!!! There is an Orange line train that runs above on elevated tracks maybe they are looking for pickpockets w/ binoculars. nah! they are just resting up for their part-time gigs. More Sgt's working than po's most of the time. Don't think brass doesn't have a lil bird gettin' the dope on these bird brains. Then they have the gall to wonder why they didnt' get new watch schedule. No one to blame but themselves!!!!!

Hey dumbass,even though its a unit and not a district u still have to bid for watches; so clout has nothing to do in getting second watch.And just like a senior heavy district ur not going to get much work from someone with more then 25 yrs,especially w/out a contract.
And since midnights has the least amount of p/o s in a unit with only 130 and many hiding inside ur lucky to have four two man teams on 6 lines.

No, "CLOUT" lets the Dog Ass po's keep their nice 2nd watch positions in a Unit when they should be booted back to a District. But still can't be touched for lack of activity or any other reason like maybe.....Violations of rules and regs. Deal or no deal with contract. Maybe their sorry asses should be put to pasture then at 25+ yrs. Seniors retire already!!!
And midnites in district or unit, needs what ratio of sgt's to po's?
1-sgt for 4-two man teams sounds logical but 4 sgt's for 4-two man teams? Whoops, forgot. "Logical" cannot be used in any form or fashion in this Dept. Districts could use a few more Sgt's but probably not from midnites in this unit. Must be nice to only work 1/2 tours, Huh! Sgt's!!!!!!! No one cryin' on that watch except from uncontrollable, hysterical laughter, Puttin' it to Da Man!!!!!

sounds to me like ur the rat on midnights that now has all the p/o s now having to stay past the hour because u don t like the sgt.s and beefed on them.If u don t like the unit bid out.What goes on there happens in the districts too.again....TO MANY CRYBABIES ON THIS DEPT.
Do any of you relize you are burning so much comp time??? Thats what the city wants, this way all comp time will go down, and when you retire not much to pay out. Try 6 & 3 that is great!!!!!!!
(D.N.& W.O.) whos only clout was thought to have since retired and died (R.I.P.)D. Rayl. Mass Transit Commander is up in arms! Guess they have more than one China Man! Stand-By Boys!!!!

sounds like the same D.N., who worked in vice a few years ago? was a back-stabbing bitch then and did follow rayl to mass transit. he couldn't do his job without someone holding his hand and couldn't make a legit pinch to save his life. gave supervisors grief by jumping chain of command and crying to the cmdr on a daily basis and was ready to put blame on everyone but himself when sh*t hit the fan. good thing he didn't return when rayl came bak, that bridge was burned, we would have scorched his behind.
