You vote on all sorts of fee and tax increases, yet fail to hold the one person responsible who could authorize Police Department hiring to full strength. You take a 6% pay hike for yourself, 5% for your staffers, jack up your "discretionary" fund to $1.3 million per year, yet let the Police languish for 3 YEARS without a contract or pay hike.
You'd be doing us some favors by going down this path though, not the least of which would be embarrassing Shortshanks. You go blame anyone you want to Ed, anyone except the face looking back at you from the mirror.

What about the times we go out there and ID these guys and lock a couple up. Then your people come out and tell us to stop messing with your constituents? You are responsible for the drug sales in your ward because you didn't want us to lock them up.
No manpower, no time to sit and watch a spot, no prosecution by ASA's, no "real" sentences handed down by judges, no juries smart enough to convict. And even when you do take down a corner, another crew steps right up before you're even in the station.
First off, that letter looks as if it was written by a fifth grader. Second, I work in 011, and guess what...from now on, I'll make sure to take to close my eyes when driving by Lake and Pulaski. Nothing to see there.

Now, how many police officers, detectives, sgts., and Lts. is the police department short and more on the way with massive retirements. The last detectives class was two and half years ago. Contract expired close to three years when the economy was doing well.
Since the letter is posted here the press has the information. Doubtfully, the press will interview this alderman and ask these questions: 1. As a city official have you ever stopped and questioned these individuals about their activities? 2. As a city official and person living in the ward do you know the identities of these individuals? As a city official have you witnessed drug sales in this area and will you sign compalints stating same? As a city official do you believe in community policing which is a policy that teams citizens, police and government together to control crime?
I would start buying the papers if they printed the letter and asked these and other questions. I'm sure the alderman will dodge these interviews and our police (lack of) leadership will cover for him.

I have lived in Chicago 40 plus years and have called my alderman a few times and they have NEVER helped. You don't even get garbage cans these days from them, you call 311.

We attend caps meetings since they started, tell beat cops what we see on a daily baisis, take the time to go to court with oficers to show our support when you make arrest. But come the 1st of June, the whole department will have to be in uniform. They say that everyone will. Everyone. It is going to be policy for the summer months. Also, there will be a postponing of summer furloughs. How they can get away without giving someone there requested furloughs is beyond us but given the state of affairs, I can see that it could happen. You are half right. They can not postpone summer furloughs but they are putting EVERYONE in uniform. From 01 June thru the end of summer ALL P.O.s will be working in uniform on Fridays and Saturdays and during certain events that fall on weekdays. Tact, Detectives, Narcotics,Prostitution,etc.

Hey Ed I worked in 011 for a number of years and I do not see anything chcanging until the people that live in your district want change for themselevs. Also I wish you luck. By your actions with this this Supt, you have put yourself out there. Jody is not to be trusted he will do what it takes to get you and fuck you over. I know a FBI agent that Jody was the supervisor for in CA. The agents wife was dying of cancer and only had a very short time left. Jody told the agent he had to go up north to work on some case. The agent requested not to go due to the extreme illness of his wife. Jody told him go or be placed in a no pay status or termination. After hearing this I was more sickened than I even think of. Correct if I am wrong. Don't the Aldercreatures have a special badge & the right to carry a gun? Are they given some special police power? Ed in order for the police to do something they would need someone to sign a complaint. And that would be unheard of in your ward. If you actually see them selling drugs Ed go out there and place them under arrest. Call for a car to pick them up. You sign the complaint and then show up in court and see to it that the ASA does not lessen the charges. You see it thru.

Someone that works on the beat should make a few copies of that letter and then go to that corner and as you are searching & arressting them show them the letter and tell them that Ed has requested you to do this. Now they are realizing they are poor, just as poor as the people they represent, which was an eye opener for them with their nice cars and nice suits and homes.
Now they know they are actually "broke."
The most they can afford are a bunch of eye sore signs that they post all over, even on abandoned buildings.
Now they want the drug dealers gone, when they realize they could have made millions too.
