- A CBS 2 interview with Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis about escalating gun violence on Friday afternoon was cut short when shots erupted a few blocks away.
Weis was being interviewed by Kristyn Hartman when the sound of gunfire cut the conversation short.
Right after the shots were fired, a Chicago police spokesman escorted Weis from the interview.

Otherwise readers might think that Weis actually took charge of the situation and led from the front rather than being hustled away from the scene by someone worried about their $300,000-per-year meal ticket.
Say what you will about bosses like Cline, Hillard, Rodriguez or lower ranking ones like Starks or Maurer, but we can't recall a single instance of them being "escorted" from the scene by a handler. And we can only imagine the phone calls that must have been flying out of HQ and City Hall to get this report changed.

There was a huge outdoor roll call planned for 6600 S Marshfield at 1930hrs. Weis was going to lead the masses in a great show of force and let the neighborhood see how many police are out there. But it ended up being cancelled around 1900hrs for unknown reasons.
Maybe it had something to do with the earlier roll call Weis and all the police were gathered in one spot so the gang bangers took the opportunity to shoot elsewhere.
Some boss probably got to Weis and told him another outdoor roll call was a bad idea. It would be a waster of manpower, because these things take about half a hour and that leaves other areas exposed. Looking at the bosses that were attending I would have to say either Jackson or Patterson convinced Weis.
Your right SCC as usual! The real 'police" bosses would of never turned tail and run! Could you imagine maurer if he was there,that crazy sob would of ran with guns blazing at the area and ordered all the coppers to do whatever to stop the shit! At the press conference, he seemed confused, uncertain, alomst worried. The female reporter was confident, staring down Weiss. His "handler" had to help him walk away while the reporter should her ground. This was a very embarasing sight. We need a leader with a set of balls. What is he afraid of? Officer who lock up female offenders for city violations or misdeameanor offensess in districts that do not have female lock-ups must sit with the prisoner, until the prints clear. I was watching the news casts and saw the superintendent being whisked away like he was the president of the u.s. I also saw an officer in his late 50's running toward the gunfire and what appeared to be a detective also in his late 50's or early 60's processing the crime scene at 69th and Paulina amid a hostile crowd. As I citizen of the southwest side I an proud that these experienced officers are still dedicated to their job and the people. It sickens me when I read your blog criticizing the 'old timers'. I venture to day that the young officers would be no where without the experienced officers. As for the superintendent maybe he could learn from experienced old timers. Maybe he should follow them into the streets since he doesn't want to lead them. I would gamble that they would even save his life if need be. That is dedication, loyalty and courage.

Cline was the police. He went out numerous nights with just a driver. He never ran from shots fired or from a press conference. Weiss could have finished the press conference then left the scene. Bring a book. Bring your reading assignment for some exempt's cakewalk of a Master's class. Bring your needlepoint or your list of possible real estate to buy. Review general orders for that test they're going to give someday. Clip your nails. Be creative!

Our elite Policy group has a master plan called "career path". Officers can study general orders in e learning for future promotional exams. Instead of study groups, we can log into elearning and take online practice tests. Weiss wanted the promotional process to be fair. So the next time you have a female prisoner, log into elearning and start studying for the next nonexistent promotional exam. Weiss does care.

Take a look at the wide shot from Jody's left looking toward the gaggle of newshawks.
See the male behind them, light colored long sleeve shirt, khaki pants and black "POLICE" body armor. He is standing alone looking away from the group. There's your "bodyguard", I wonder if he gets sergant's pay for it.
I wonder if Jody's SUV is armored??
Speak for yourself.... MSF, TRU and the rest of us are bringing in the arrests, guns, etc..... Its the system that releases them with no penalty, or fear of being arrested. Crime has no consequences in Cook County. The end result is "no P.C" and then the City pays the bad guy thousands to sustain his style of living....

CPD has become pussified. A leader is supposed to be a role model.
This incident should have Weis relieved of duty. Weis is no role model.
Enough is enough. His running sends a huge message to his command as well as the citizens he is supposed to protect. That cannot be erased in the minds of men (and women).
He's no Errol Flynn either.
Does anyone know what is going on in the 13th? Last night 15 shots were fired on Race/Leavitt, one kid shot in leg. At 1:30 am.
I'M just going to go on a limb and say 15 shots were fired at 1:30 a.m. and one kid was shot in the leg. Wow that was tough!! Next question please.
