Stolen Car Rams 17 Cars

  • As several police officers responded to the stabbing, a motorist driving a stolen car tried to drive past the scene but became blocked in, according to [police].

In an attempt to get out, the motorist smashed 12-13 vehicles -- five of which were police squad cars. The others were parked on the street, the officer said.

Police tried to stop the car but the motorist "floored it," pushing the squad cars out of the way and driving onto the sidewalk. One officer had to jump out of the way causing that officer to suffer a wrenched back...

At least two kids were reportedly in the back seat, so the decision not to shoot at the occupants was definitely the right call.

Best wishes to the injured PO for a speedy recovery.

So the only plausible outcome will be: 5 pool cars, each shittier than the last, to replace these freshly damaged cars.

And if for some reason five pool cars aren't available, may I suggest sending the officers regularly assigned to these respective beats over to 015 for foot patrol until their regular cars are fixed? There seems to be a spike in shootings/homicides in Austin, and perhaps increased foot patrol is the answer.

There ya have it. Another example of the Law Of Unintended Consequences!

SHOOT OUT THE TIRES!!! SHOOT OUT THE FUCKIN' TIRES!!!! (Says the idiot shooting the video from his apartment window.)

Greetings, idiot. We are not allowed to shoot TIRES unless we have the right to shoot straight at the DRIVER. The use of deadly force can be deadly, no matter what you might be AIMING AT.

Ricochets off rims or the surface of the street might even have hit YOU, you dunce. Stop watching the cop shows on tv. It REALLY is not done that way.

As someone who was there this is a perfect example of how second guessing in shooting and monday morning quarterbacking is going to put officers and citizens lives in question. Virtually anywhere else in this country or 20 years ago that car would have been rightfully riddled with police bullets. But in today's political climate in Chicago, if shots were fired it would have been headlines in every biased newspaper and media out there : "Racist Police Officers shoot defenseless African American." I wish society would wake up to this reality. Our own Governor Pat Quinn releases 1,000 prisoners out of jail and majority of Chicago citizens feel "sorry" for the criminal, jobless, welfare, worthless Section 8, LINK card holders! If these sappy citizens love them so much invite them in for dinner every night and let them take their daughters out on a date. Chicago-- YOU wanted a hands -off -policy -smiling -friendly police department, you better realize what you wished for is HERE. If this guy was caught for this crime, his public defender would have some sob story that he came from an abused household and Governor Quinn would have released him after serving a few weeks. Remember Officers, the department and most of citizens don't care about you... They would sooner fire and prosecute you or have you run over, then let you take necessary action to stop this man from driving down the sidewalk at 40 miles an hour. Chicago is the new Detroit, LOL, WELCOME your ride has just begun, Summer around the corner!!! Ha Ha Ha! I hope the citizens who love these scum bags and hate the Police, it should be interesting how long they keep their affection up for their 40 ounce "friends" when this is just the beginning of Summer 2010 in the windy city. Remember, they say it takes a village (lol) Good luck! Remember Officers, stay safe and realize that when you do anything, the media and majority of citizens will do everything in their power to suspend, fire, and prosecute you for just doing your job. READ BETWEEN THE LINES what you should and should not do. Do your job and do it legally, but take your time and don't do anything more than what is necessary. If they want a report, give them a report. If they have complaints they can call Daley or their Alderman why CPD hasn't had a raise for 3+ years and why we are thousands of officers short in manpower.

Hey, you might want to listen to the video again. At 1:35 in the video, officer(s) are yelling to shoot the tires. So its just not just the citizenry that are miss informed and not everyone is as well trained as you.

Too bad for the driver that it wasn't a Toyota. She could have claimed unanticipated acceleration and gear shifting as the reason for her version of death race/demolition derby on a Chicago side street.

Good job by the on scene coppers keeping cool and not turning it into a shooting gallery. Can't say I'd have shown the same restraint, but I'm not second guessing their reactions. Lord knows how the press would have played that one if a kid in the backseat took a bullet...they'd much rather see a few coppers run over!

And the comments about being the paper car are priceless!!!!

I agree with my neighbors, shoot the fucking tires out, we are so tired of seeing the police get attacked in Uptown, Edgewater, Rogers Park, wish we could help our police.

I hope the stabber isn't the one the State Attorney's office let back on to the streets of Edgewater and Uptown. According to the police report the parolee from Statesville (MO armed robbery) stabbed a male Mexican in the neck, killed him, no porvocation because he approached them at Berwyn and admitted he was high on crack, drunk and up for 36 hours. When your fucked up there is no excuse. State Attorney fabricated a story, said self defense and off you go, no parole violations, nothing he is in Edgewater or uptown hanging with his ex felon and parole buddies. This is why you the police get more work, a man admitts to murder, and they thrown him back into your arms.

We support our police and believe the police would not have wanted this felon back on the streets.

He will stab again, afterall he is Knife Universite aka Statesville.

Protect us from Dexter Henley and we will continue to watch your back.

It is time the citizens and police support each other.

Thank you.

Was a guy or girl driving that car?

I think once the driver starts ramming other vehicles in order to escape shooting into the car would apply here. Who actually saw kids in the car??? Then again if there are kids in the car, the cop would have been thrown under the bus by administration and esp. the media for shooting. No win situation here. Joe citizen is going to have to claim the damage with his insurance company.

Gentlemen, think of the cross fire. Blue on blue shootings would not be cool. One cop lets off a round, everyone might start. Even if it was 20, 30 years ago, I don't think shooting would have been appropriate this time. I doubt that any cop new or veteran would think too highly of putting a round through a car window and into their partner. Awesome job in a stressful situation by the officers.

Oh, my God! Oh, my God! is not "pro-police". Neither is "shoot the fucking tires". It was a resident filming all the excitement outside his (and her) window. And, had the police done something wrong, you have NO idea what he and she would have been saying.

I bet you'd have found out real fast how "pro-police" the anonymous camera-wielder is, though.

But then again, you sound like YOU would have shot the tires out.

its crazy that this guy got away but i dont blame the cops one bit. the stupid newspaper reporters or writers and liberal citizen thinking endorses this behavior and handcuffs the police to do anything. police walk on egg shells because every time they stop anyone they are called prejudice and and taped with cell phone cameras. the police are not allowed to be the police anymore. they only wear the uniform and have their guns for decorations because as soon as they use them everyone screams and yells and feels sorry for the drug dealing gang members. And they will show some stupid picture of the kid from high school before he dropped out and say he was a honor student who had college aspirations. No wonder why cops look upset all the time i would be too if i had all this power and not allowed to really use it.The mayor wants them to write tickets all day to make revenue. that shouldnt be there job but daley just wants more and more of our money. doesnt the mayor andothers in charge realize the citizens dont have no more money left. and now we have to pay for health care for these gang bang thugs who eat chips and soda pop and smoke weed all day. all my family moved out of chicago i will soon too. i cherish my life too much now

Watch the video again. They provide a commentary in pop ups. The commentary explains that their were kids in the car and the Police used restraint. I still say its a good police video and the name calling makes us look bad.

Had things gone wrong, it would have been a bad police video. I can't speculate on the motives of the guy behind the camera. I do know that the more the citizens see what we see, the better it is for us. Post these videos all day long, and Mom said be polite.

Got no problem with the video being posted, but maybe YOU should watch it again. The actual video was obtained from the anonymous resident. The captions, etc., were added later, by someone who did not record the video. The VIDEO is not pro-police; it is just a guy and a girl filming some excitement outside their home; it's not a pro-police 'anything'.

The person who added the captions and commentary was ever-so-slightly pro-police.

You're just so happy to see a video that's not hugely ANTI-police, you're going way overboard in your praise.

And, you STILL can't shoot at tires unless you can legally shoot point-blank at the driver. Remember to do it politely, though.

The modern era of CPD is upon us!

This is what the mayor, alderfools, rev'runs and wet-eyed, triscuit & brie nibbling, scooter-riding, matching beret, scarf & ankle sock wearing, yellow-pinky, coo-coo cloud land dwelling, flaming liberal until corn-holed/otherwise victimized by dude inc., citizenry demands of the new CPD.

Can you IMAGINE the howls of self righteous outrage had the Police ventilated that vehicle and the occupants??

It would have been a "shit-talker's" wet-dream...

"Fire 'em all, take their sweet pensions, fat medical and early retirement away, since we have to eat our 401K's. Nobody should be getting a pension anyway these days! How hard is Police work anyway? If you don't like it quit! Hire us, we'll work for half without a pension or medical!"

Way too many "shit-talkers" and not enough old-school "common sense" folk to tip the balance.

Enjoy your new "Federal Model" CPD citizens. You should outraged enough to be hanging 42 extra-short in effigy and marching on city hall with torches, pitchforks, tar, feathers and stout manila hemp rope...

Wow...imagine what it felt to be those police officers that could do nothing but watch a crazed driver endanger his/her own children, endanger other officers, and criminally damage 12-13 cars out of fear of a stray bullet then a lawsuit!?! Good work society...the criminals win again and the taxpayers and police lose! When the criminal is caught (and he/she will), we get to see the "judicial system" in action. My guess is 2 years of supervision and whatever time they spend in jail when they are caught and can't make bond. Nice job you liberal fucks!
