Speaking of undermanned: is that why a crossing guard in 016 takes her husband's ticket books and writes tickets, signing his name to them?

Speaking of the press,
John McCarron, of the Chicago Tribune, stated tonight/Friday (on Chicago Tonight, wttw):

"Reporters in Chicago are very hesitant to say anything bad about the cops, but let me tell ya, when, when they were picketing City Hall, when the Olympic visiting team was here, yelling daley sucks, daley sucks, I kind of lost, y'know, lost it with the Chicago Police. I think they're a little bit pampered sometimes, they uh, they don't think the rules apply to them and uh, I think a lot of people are beginning to feel that way, too. I'm not talking about the yknow, cops, out there at night, uh, doing the things that need to be done, but just, in general," -Callaway interjects a comment about bending the rules- "yeah, they sure do, they sure do (bend the rules), they're sort of prima donnas in a lot of ways."

I don't feel much like a prima donna. But hey, that's just me.

Incredible! The media really lives in an ivory tower in a land far, far away.

Not one of them can write the truth with an ounce of objectivity. Nor can they write the facts of any newsworthy story with accuracy and truthfulness.

It is all about the spin, dear citizens of Chicago.

To those citizens, I say, beware. I do not believe there will be any improvement in the violence in this city and sadly it will becoming to you who live in areas and neighborhoods that do not experience it.

The police department is shorthanded, not respected or supported.

When the Supreme Court overturns the handgun ban in Chicago, I say, buy yourself some protection. Hell, buy some now. It is only going to get worse.

The spike in violence is brought on by several decades of this city being governed by the foolish, the greedy and the inept. It has gone unchecked by the police because of being shorthand AND hand tied.

God help us all.

No worries SCC!

When the winged hords from A/1, A/2& A/4 decend upon unsuspecting tourists and yuppies in 001 and 018this summer and carry them away to their dens, people will realize that the street coppers were NOT bullshitting about 42 extra-short playing roulette with the public's safety just to prove a point to coppers.

perhaps we'll hear about the random alderfool, rev'run or heavy-hitter being snatched off the street by a roving band of mouth-breathers in a raggedy-ass van. We'll watch the non-chase/immediate termination done by coppers in even more raggedy-ass squads. All the news helicopters will film said alderfool, rev'run or heavy-hitter being hung out the side door while getting their fanny packed at 100mph south-bound on I-57... Oh shit! Sorry, no ISP response because of lay-offs & cut backs. Enjoy your new found friends though.

Did you see the old grey haired cops running from the hail of gunfire in the Englewood neighborhood on the you tube video? Don't get me wrong, run for cover I say, but those guys appear to be veterans that are still on the " JOB " while 2 year old " ROOKIES " are on desk duty. It is just pathetic that we see someones GRANDPA in a situation like this. Also I noticed that they were not in possession of any M4's. Maybe because they couldn't pass the POWER TEST due to being on the job for so many years and have arthritis preventing them from making the prescribed time. I mean what if they were off one second or so? Now here they are in the heat of battle, and I do say heat of battle with national news being made and they aren't even in possession of an M4 because of some stupid bureaucratic bullshit. The CPD is under fire from the gangbangers and the gangbangers are winning. And they will win if nothing changes in terms of department policys. Let me also say this SCC, there are people on this job that are fat but excellent shooters. I would rather work with the fat excellent shooters then some arrogant prick of a cop that thinks just because he can run fast, excludes the fat guy excellent shooter. I really refrain from writing any comment on this site, but certain events already unfolding in real life episodes have changed my mind about remaining silent. I am so pissed off about the bullshit politics and bullshit missions that I am ready to start telling all that is going on this job. I mean, what do I have to lose? And another thing, The video clip of the car going through the street already that was a crime scene. I would have shot at the tires. The bullets would have flattened on the pavement after going through the tires. Have some balls people. The more balls you got, scares these management shits like never before in the whole time I've been on. Wait. It's only gonna get worse. You know it, and I know it.

i hate to criticize another officer here, but to the officer stating he would have "shot the tires out" of the car being driven by that crazy woman on the north side who had kids in the car, I say BULLSHIT.
Thank God the cops who were there had the presence of mind to refrain from anything like that. Not because the kids would have been hurt, because I don't think that would have happened, but because THE MEDIA WOULD HAVE CRUCIFIED US. We all know they would have. And every toothless, illiterate law breaker the media could find would have echoed those sentiments in interviews.
Sure, the lady would have been caught in the hot car, but several law firms who make excellent money suing this Dept. would have been at County Jail in the morning to pay her bail. Things have digressed her much faster under Weis/Masters than even we could have imagined. All we can do now is back each other up, and protect one another as best we can. Everybody else is on their own.

"I would have shot at the tires. The bullets would have flattened on the pavement after going through the tires. Have some balls people."

Two kids in the back seat. What twelve other cops with guns surrounding the vehicle? And in the heat of the moment YOU want to shoot the tires? I thought Chicago hasn't hired anyone new yet this year? :)

Let me explain amigo. YOU shoot the tires, fine. Lets pretend the orders say that's ok (they don't). Someone on the other side of the car hears the shots and maybe thinks they are coming from the bad guys inside the car. Now THAT person starts lighting up the car! Now not only do you have officers potential hurt by YOUR bullet fragments bouncing off the asphalt, but offenders, innocent children AND other cops in one another's crossfire because someone got a lil trigger happy.

I'm not going to deny that when I first saw the video I was sitting there scratching my head wondering why no one had pulled an asp or anything, busted out a window, and reached into the car to pull someone out by throat (old school). With a busted window at least then you would have had a clear shot to taser the driver (new school). But kids in the car always changes everything. Even if they are kids of the piece of shit… The officers on scene did the best job they could under the circumstances. God bless them and everyone else on the job. We will all need it this summer.

You knock and even slam the veteran officers while new "rookies" hide inside. Why are new officers working inside? Clout? In the old days, a veteran officer with experience would work inside and help younger officers. Now, the department is hiding clouted young officers inside. WTF! And you have the balls to slam the veterans. They survived 30 years and still are on the front lines while some young officers hide inside? How many female full duty officers work as secretaries for bosses? I applaud the grandpas for having the balls to work the streets of 007.

jshit thought he could get away with his half-assed policing strategies. Now the problems have finally manifested, and the problems have come home to roost. They aren't going away anytime soon either. The perception of the police ineffectiveness and short manpower took awhile by the bad guys, it will take time to reverse. I'm afraid we are going to have multiple police shot this summer. Be careful and don't be a hero for bullshit.

Enough with your BS. We are not short 2,000!!!

We're short in the neighborhood of 800 soon to be 1,000. The other number you are referencing is daily medical use, CD and LD officers.

The 1,000 + officers each day is coppers F'ing each of us over when they milk the system.

All of these CD/LD officers (NOT IOD) need to wake up and get back to full duty. In the real world they would be Unemployed collecting disability.

Their time is coming, full duty or unemployment, take your pick!!!!

RE: John McCarron
Wasn't he one of the Tribune editors that brought us the two year non-stop week after week stories about problems with the death penalty sentences several years back? While the system does need to stand up to scrutiny, there was absolutely no context within which to evaluate these stories, so it appeared everyone could be innocent.

A Fact that never saw the light of day in those stories was that during the same time period 3,500 people were sentenced to death in the United States MORE THAN 500,000MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN WERE MURDERED IN THE U.S (you can check the FBI stats -go back to the reinstatement of the death penalty)

MSM has been ignoring these deaths for years most of which occur in Democratic controlled urban areas. And now they are getting huffy about heated disagreements. These are the things that warrant heated discussions. What hypocrites!

First off, when you say "Did you see the old grey haired cops running from the hail of gunfire in the Englewood neighborhood on the you tube video?" I think you should know that those "grandpas" were running TOWARDS the gunfire, not from it. And go ahead and start shooting out tires with 15 other coppers standing next to you. And depending on the angle, a bullet will ricochet out of control. You gonna chance that because of some banged up cars super cop??

John look in the mirror. The media are the prima donas, reporting what they told to by their bosses. Proff of this is political elections. The media bends over backwards to support the candidate they are told to.

Reporting negatively against the democratic party will get you booted from the elaborate fundraiser parties they hold.

SO WHAT HAS CHANGED IN A YEAR?!!!

April 2, 2009

BY FRAN SPIELMAN AND ANNIE SWEENEY

"Weis also addressed, head-on, an issue that has dominated the conversation around his administration — the morale of officers.

Noting that he came in as a reformer, Weis said he believes change has been hard on some officers. But he does not believe morale is low. And if it were—and if he was responsible for it—he’d resign, he said.

“No one would have to ask me to leave,’’ Weis said. “I would leave on my own.’’

Hey poster @
4/03/2010 02:04:00 AM

The 2 year "rookies" are working the desk because they either have a pink taco, or great breast implants or both!
M-4"s are not the cure all, a weapon is useful only if you are allowed to use it? A good friend was a M-1 Abrams commander in Iraq, in three years was allowed to fire 3 rounds from his main gun!
I agree with the stupidity of having to pass a power test to carry an M-4 it makes no sense! let's face it folks ..police work does not require physical fitness, it requires balls and skills! Take a look at the best coppers in your districts.. I'm sure they are sporting a well developed "table muscle".
Also, there is nothing wrong with running from gunfire. Perhaps you have stood too long in front of that paper target at the range for 7 seconds to shoot 2 reload and shoot 2. ALWAYS RELOAD BEHIND COVER!

He's as LIBERAL as they come. Not just MSM but also a left wing professor at NU.

Actually a lttle surprising that he thinks OUR rights to FREEDOM OF SPEECH and FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY should be trampled on. That's not very left wing of him!

What a load of shit. Like we have to give up our God given and Constitutional rights as human beings because of our chosen profession.

Everyone was off-duty at the march. If ANYONE stepped out of line or did anything illegal, Department brass was everywhere, and those PO's involved would have been skewered.

McCarron obviously feels there are two classes of citizen in this country. Him and the people that agree with him, and the "bad" people and Police who don't deserve the rights of citizenship that all others enjoy.

Any wonder why the newspaper industry is crumbling?

Try not to let the bust outs at the Zellune get under your skin.

No matter what they believe, or what they say, their days ARE numbered.

SAM ZELL will see to that.

About 3 years ago I was in a Chrysler dealership in Oak Lawn getting something fixed. Happened to start chatting up the Sales Manager and asked him how things were going.

"Oh, Thank God the Germans don't own us anymore."

I then told him, "Soon enough you'll WISH you were owned by the Germans."

The Sales Manager just smiled like he was talking to a moron.

I just smiled because I knew he was about to get it in the ass, no lube.

Chrysler had just been purchased by Cerberus.

(In Greek Mythology, Cerberus was the three-headed Dog that guarded the gates of Hell)

Cerberus picked Bob Nardelli, who single-handedly ran Home Depot into the ground, to be the CEO of Chrysler.

The point here is to let these fucks at the Tribune shoot off their mouths. They KNOW it won't be long now. An industry-wide failed business model combined with no one hiring means their glory days are just about over.

The CPD is undermanned by well over 2,000+ police officers.

Something terrible is going to happen and nobody cares!

Where the fuck have u been hiding. If we re only 1000 short that means each dist is only 40 coppers short(25/1000) Not to mention all the units we had back then(school, gun, gangs n&s) Mass transit had over 300 coppers back in the early 90 s.The airport is at least 60 short.Mass transit has about 140. Just ask how many shift/uniform checks were cut.Im sure its under 10000.
Lets all keep our heads low. Its going to be a wild and bloody summer.

Do you think that you are funny? How many officers do you know that have been injured on the job, most likely doing more police work than you can dream of? You are the problem with the job today. You sound like a fucking punk. Post another dumb comment.
