Red Light Non-Story

After a competent article detailing J-Fled's Magical Disappearing Act, Fran goes back to City Hall drivel:
  • Chicago's Big Brother network of red-light cameras has turned into a money machine for the city, generating $58 million in annual revenue in 2009.

The same cannot be said for city employees caught by the cameras in the act of running red lights. Nearly 70 percent of their tickets get dismissed.

Oh no! 70% dismissed? There must be a scandal here somewhere, right?
  • Since January 2007, 2,685 red-light-camera tickets have been issued to vehicles registered to city departments. At $100 a pop, that should have generated $268,500. Instead, only $77,167 has been collected.
Uh oh, numbers. Numbers confuse people. Numbers mean statistics. And statistics means lies. Especially where the City is concerned.
  • A whopping 1,830 of those tickets were dismissed for reasons that include the municipal code exemption for emergency vehicles. Not all of those vehicles were responding to emergencies with lights flashing and sirens blaring. Some police vehicles were working undercover. Some were vehicles assigned to city departments not typically considered emergency departments.
Mmmhmm. 70% and more were "emergency vehicles." That's a non-story right there.
  • Of those tickets, 689 have been paid by city employees who apparently had no valid defense. Another 77 tickets remain unpaid. Some are eligible for administrative hearings and could be overturned by city hearing officers.
So in those cases where guilt can be proven, employee operators have paid, and in 77 cases, hearings are pending.

So why is this a story at all? Someone had some space to fill? Maybe a contract is about to be settled via an arbitrator? It's pretty much a pointless story.

O.T.

Do you remember sometime last year when JFED said that weather does not really play a part in the reduction of homicides/shootings?

I'm sure if someone digs around they'll find it but anyhow take the time to read this article which contradicts his former statements to the media.

It could be that the CPD is taking credit for reductions in homicides that are actually the result of inclimate weather, poor marksmanship and better medical care at local hospitals.

Fran, really? What the hell type of story is this?

I don't get it? Where is the story here.

Fran, how many of your newspaper's delivery trucks get passes from the police for making u turns in the intersection, driving on the wrong side of the road, not fully stopping at stop signs, failure to yield to oncoming traffic for left turns, failure to use a turn signal, etc., because they are running late with their deliveries?

How about investigating that story?

Here's your headline: FREEDOM OF THE PRESS MEANS FREEDOM FROM TRAFFIC LAWS FOR SUN-TIMES TRUCKS

C'mon, Fran. This is tabloid writing.

What story would you write if the police started ticketing Sun-Times trucks? Get your ego out of your butt and do some consistent first class reporting and stay away from yellow journalism. It might improve your paper's circulation.

I sure hope the media doesn't find out that all we coppers have to do to get out of a red light ticket (AND any other parking ticket) is send a photo copy of our badge in the envelope when we "contest" (wink, wink) the ticket.

Boy, I bet that'd burn the media's collective ass. I bet they'd write about it for days. Right after we're awarded that fat contract with the hellafide retro pay.

Who is this copper? Must be pretty heavy to not be named? What is the real deal with this story?

Deputy sues White Sox over action by security guards

"The named guard told Lopez he was an off-duty Chicago police officer and that "he would do everything in his power to ruin Mr. Lopez' career," the complaint alleges.

The Chicago Tribune is not naming the guard specified in the lawsuit because his name is common, without further identification details, and he was not available to be reached for comment. The Tribune Co. recently sold the Chicago Cubs but retains a small financial interest in the team."

With automated red light cameras and stop light cameras in a large city such as Chicago, you simply are going to have several police/fire vehicles in the intersection on a red. Why? Because those are the only vehicles that should be in the intersection on a red so naturally cameras will record emergency vehicles. There's no scandal here Fran. No refusal by those terrible city employees to follow the rules. Its just common sense. No go make up a scare of another "story."

Screw the media anyway. The media as we knew it is dead. They are completing the transformation into becoming part of the socialist regime. Look at all the non reporting concerning the background of our prez. before the last election. The overwhelming majority of the media's personal political views are way left of center. Why would we expect anything different from them?

You don't see them exposing any of the shenanigans going on in the ghetto, or in government on the local and federal levels. These areas would be a treasure-trove of material for a real investigative reporter. The fix is in, and doing real reporting does not fit the template. The media is out to change the world into a socialist utopia, not report facts.

OFF TOPIC

JUST AN IDEA...
If work or family obligations prevent your participation at St. Jude, another event deserves our recognition.

Again this year our Honor Guard will march 24 hours in a row in military fashion (ala Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington) in front of OUR Memorial with an hourly, "Changing of the Guard."
I would hope someone could post the exact date(s) but I believe it's midnight to midnight 28-29 April 2010.
If you can stop and visit during this time, please do so. If you are working, and can just drive by at any hour... 'light up the blue' as you slowly drive past.
It would be a great 'unofficial' additional way to, "Honor Our Fallen."
A symbolic, 24 hr. 'CPD Memorial Drive-By'... yet another way to honor that, "Thin Blue Line."

********* NOTE**********
The dates/times of the Honor Guard 24 hour vigil are... FRIDAY 30 APR 10, 2359 hrs. to SATURDAY 01 MAY 10, 2359 hrs.
(changed date/time from above post)

Yea I love how the Sun Times mentions some kind of bullshit about a rivalry between CPD and Cook County. I know almost everyone from either county or city would risk their lives to help another officer without hesitation regardless of what someone's star says. I remember all the great posts when a Correctional Officer was assaulted in uniform on the west side and CPD did an excellent job making the pinch of the offender minuets after the incident occurred.

So typical of the press sensationalist story manufacture at its best. Yet another "divide and conquer" story assaulting law enforcement.

CPD,County,Suburban PDs,State,Federal all that doesn't matter when another officer needs help after all its us verses them.

What the department should do is create an Administrative Commendation award. This would be given to the inside-help when it is felt they deserve recognition for things like the Legal Handbook.

Service-in-the-field awards should be like military combat awards. You earn them for actions where you may endanger yourself or bring credit to the department for actions conducted on the street. There needs to be a distinction between the field-police and the office help.

Hmmmmm...

Possible Tie-In To Haymakergate??

scum-times running a blurb about taxis with suspected laundered salvage titles being used?

We suspect high order fuckery possibly involving 993'd CPD squads having their wreck/salvage titles laundered then the cars are rebuilt and sold to taxi companies?

Involving Seymon Garber the Chicago Cab Titan and friend/confidant,financier, aider & abettor to 42 extra-short and extra-short II?

Is this why the Daley Inc. media spin machine was so quick to have Haymakergate muscled out of the public eye?

Who at Fleet is getting their dick wet with the kick-backs on this?

Who profits from having six-figure taxi medallions on death trap cars?

Who is running interference for whom when someone tries to put one/some of these vehicles out-of-service for being a hazard?

How many 993's are laundered and put back into CPD fleet as pool cars?

As more time goes by more questionable shit continues to bubble to the surface that Daley Inc. tried to keep buried.

Weirder & stranger than winning a double date with Huberman & Dugan with j-fled as chaperone...

Any of you media hacks want to play connect the dots on this? Or does the blood of a Policeman crying out for justice mean absolutely nothing?

Oh, so sorry!

Edgeworth was hired for 1 reason and 1 reason only.... he is good friends with Ray Oroczo, the Mayor's current Chief of Staff. PERIOD and I mean PERIOD.

Edgeworth was one of the 1st appointments Ray Orozco made a Fire Commissioner, to the Director of Training position.

Edgeworth is a great guy, I personally like him, but do I think he is the best fit.... no, not even close. But it doesn't matter, Ray has the Mayor's ear , so Edgeworth got the spot. PERIOD. That is the Chicago way.

What is missed by most is how Edgeworth will collect over $110K in pension while colleting another $161K in salary. Kinda like Jose Santiago over at OEMC, a 110K in pension and $163K in salary... the Chicago way.

Didn't Mayor "Dumb Dumb" Daley say recently he was gonna put a stop to the double dippers.... maybe next year. The Chicago Way !!!!!!!!

Well the state red light law says the the owner of the vehicle and not the driver is responsible for the ticket.

The city does not want you to know this. They threaten you with a suspension if you do not pay the fine. Even though they have no legal right to do so.

Now we all know that King Daley and the City are exempt from all state and federal laws. Or so he thinks.

Under the law the city is be responsible to pay the fine to it self. Therefore they wave the fines.

Does the city pay for city stickers? NO

Does the city pay City sales tax on goods and gasoline? NO

Does the city pay a water bill? NO

Does the city pay the city property tax on city property? NO

Does the city pay rent to occupy city buildings? NO

Would you write your self a ticket and then pay for it when you park in your own driveway???

WTF?
