Happy Sinkhole de Mayo

Video courtesy of a dedicated reader:

That's the main floor of the 001 District. That crack is about 4 inches wide at the bottom. If the building isn't in two pieces shortly, it will be eventually. We've seen better construction in adobe mud huts.

Seriously, how much concrete did the contractor short the job site for the slab to be collapsing and the walls buckling this badly? Someone ought to be in jail for this. Well, in a municipality where the government wasn't bought and paid for maybe. Not here in other words.

At least the connected "minority" contractor was able to get that contract in order to provide that poor quality craftsmanship. Plus he was able to kick back a little to the top. Now a new "minority" contractor will get the no bid contract to repair this and be able to kick back more to the 5th floor of city hall. This was probably purposely done to keep the cycle of graft going.

It is actually worse than the vid shows. Check out the area by the front desk. I guess the city figures that if they inject enough caulk the building will stay together. Doors to secure areas don't close, concrete is falling from the walls, the gaps in the walls are large enough to insert a hand, and ceilings are buckling.

My garage from Danley was better built.

Yhe 20th District had all sorts of problems. The city overpaid for these new stations and on top of that they got shit construction form the favored contractors. Typical of daley's fraud and theft.

Millennium Park had hundreds of millions in cost overruns, whole sections of the underground garage had to be ripped out and redone. daley then blamed the contractor and refused to pay, forcing the contractor to endure years of court action to get paid for the work shortshanks demanded by done by 2000.

daley screamed to get construction going and lots was done before adequate engineering studies were done. Then they had to rip lots out and redo it.

What was originally budgeted at $125 million eventually cost over $500 million and no one knows the true cost to this day.

Life in daley city.

Federal Indictment Double Header

Well, if they're going to put people in jail for shoddy, inflated, inside dealer construction work, add Millenium Park to that list.

Remember?
Part of the deal was that a certain percentage of the construction companies had to be minority construction companies. They weren't satisfied that a given number of construction 'workers' were minorities, they had to be outside minority owned, operated and staffed minority construction companies. Many new 'alleged' qualified companies were formed, sprung up and bid. They hired one such company, not necessarily because of reputation or low bid but because they 'qualified' as a required minority firm. Their job was to form and pour concrete for all the underground area below Millenium Park. I believe the underground garage may have been part of that as well.
Well, after a rocky start they fell waaaaay behind in their work. They set the whole schedule off for all the other construction companies. They were given a pass at first because nobody wanted to be the person(s) that sanctioned them out of fear of labeling them.
This went on and on and they were repeatedly warned but same old, same old.
Finally they were given an ultimatum as they caused millions of dollars of extra money because of their delays.
They were finally fired and the concrete work was given to a (Daley ally) construction firm to 'finish.'
That company went in, inspected their work and found that they could not merely finish the work started because it was not properly poured and/or reinforced and all their work had to be wrecked and redone per the plans and code, now at a cost of ten's of millions of dollars!
The corker was that the same minority contractor sued the city for releasing them from the contract, job site.
Anybody go to jail on that fiasco?
Cheez, wonder who did the work on 001 and 35th St. Just asking?!

Cinco de Mayo
Today is May the 5th

A little history for those who may not know...

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico.... But as we know....the great ship did not make it to New York....The ship hit an iceberg and sank....and the cargo was forever lost....

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery....were disconsolate at the loss....

Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still observe to this day.... The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th.... and is known....of course....as Sinko de Mayo....

Wasn't the new 1st district/traffic unit building built on the site of the old junk yard. It was there for years. When the city forced/taxed most junk yards out of the city no one wanted to build on that land because of the contaminated ground from leaking fluids left from the junked vehicles. I wonder if they cleaned the site up before construction? Has to be a relative in that business..

Heres part of the story on the 001st Dist and the Traffic Section/ Mass Transit group. It was completed and turned over in 2000 less then to years ago. The First District was bid on and awarded to Walsh Construction AKA " The Bureau of Walsh " as it is reffered to in City Hall. The Traffic/ Mass Transit Group was awarded to a second Contractor whise name escapes no at the moment. ( Look into it Fran and Frank ) The two sections were actually seperated by a plywood wall. The area shown on the video is actually the area completed by the non Walsh contractor. Not that it matters much the area completed by Walsh in the First District side is also showing stress crack and signs of sinking. THe entire site was built on an old junk yard site that has contaminated soil that has to be removed and backfilled, That is most likely the reason for the sinking and crack appearing issues on both sides of the building. It requires an engineeriung study, core samples of the ground and a lawsuit on behalf of the taxpayers against both construction companies. Not likely to happen with the heavy campaign donors from Walsh involved, but thats the story. Frank and Fran get some FOIAS out there with the Building and Enviroment Departmemts US attorney get the EPA involved about the cleanup of the site and health hazards that may have been legt behind for the officers workking in the buildingm besides the stuctural issues. Get on it and discover the multiple layers of corrution surrounding the obviously shoddy workmanship, approved permits and passed building permits as the construction moved forward in an obviously substandard manner. I challenge you all.

We have been hearing gunfire nearly every night recently and then--some before the shots and some after--we hear guys talking/yelling very close to our home about who they're going to shoot next. So far, they haven't decided to shoot me or my wife.
What we don't hear in the late-night episodes is any police involvement. People in this neighborhood are 1) afraid to become known to the gangbangers as "cop-callers" 2) probably aware that by the time the police arrive, the bangers will be long gone and 3) unsure what can really be done to make the neighborhood any safer. I'm coming to you to ask if you know anything that can work to stop gang members from shooting up our streets every night.

Bid rigging is standard practice at Walsh Construction. Walsh will under bid all competition and win the contract, then woops, the city changes the specs to the job. Walsh keeps the contract, but must bill higher then the contracted bid due to changes made by the city. Kick backs are made as a result. And the work is obviously sub standard. It is a classic Bid rigging / kick back scheme. In other words, the chicago way. Any wonder why our taxes and cost of living is the highest in the nation. Were getting ripped off by the daley syndicate and associates.

I understand that neigboring states are looking at the Arizona immigration law with the intention of possibly adopting this law into their state.

I, as a police officer, will not participate in enforcing the immigration law.

According to Citizen-Times.com, Arizona law allows police officers to make an attempt to determine a person's immigration status only during a police stop for some other offense and if there is
"reasonable suspicion" that the person is an illegal immigrant. Police may only arrest a person if there is "probable cause" that the person is an unlawful alien with no valid ID.
I must advocate that law enforcement officers will be conducting unethical profiling to make arrests. Therefore, citizens who are legally here will be stereotyped and subjected to unnecessary probing of their personal information.

the seperation has got nothing to do with the concrete, being a masonary worker for 25 years i'd suspect it was caused by not using brick ties in between the morter joints. they look like metal wire step ladders and are laid on top of each corse of brick in the morter to support and interlock each corse together, and or poorly mixed morter with not enough portland cement added in the mix. in short poor workmanship! when the building started to settle you get a sepration in the brick work like that depicted. it will have to be torn out and relaid properly with brick ties added and a ritcher morter mix used at some point. Hey 11:36. You don't get to pick which laws you will enforce, and whatever your feelings about the recent Arizona legislation, all that state did was mimic unenforced federal legislation. Why the feds don't enforce it is beyond me. But if you really think you can pick and choose the laws to enforce, you are sadly mistaken, and made a poor career decision. Perhaps a job in some private industry that is not "clothed in public service" (to quote SCOTUS, it refers to hotels, restaurants, theaters) would be more to your liking. That way you can pick and choose your clientele. Until that time, shut up and do your job AND stop whining about laws you don't like that aren't on the book here. It makes you look like an attention whore and is totally out of place.

To the idiot copper from 023 with the 11:36 AM post... listen up. It is not your job to interpret the law knucklehead. It is your job to enforce it. And if you are not willing to do that then get the hell off the job. Your ridiculous rhetoric is an embarrassment to real police officers everywhere. If you don't like the law then work to get it changed.

I HEARD THE COMPANY THAT RENOVATED OHARE'S TERMINAL OUTSIDE WAS A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS OVER BUDGET AND THAT THE PROJECT CAN'T PASS CODE. SO THE CITY GAVE THAT SAME COMPANY A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT TO FIX THEIR OWN MISTAKES...WTF!

5/05/2010 05:43:00 AM

Those overhangs were mis-measured and they had to place steel girders underneath as support so that the overhangs don't collapse. They have an engineer on 24/7 to make sure the overhangs don't shift. Where's the media on this one??? Talk about a sink hole. Why can't this city get the best contractors/architects/engineers to build in this city? Why is it always so political and fraudulently accomplished only for it to turn to shit.

Kenny Construction was doing sewer work in Mt. G. This after the city laid off workers. Kenny not only charges prevailing wage (which is fine by me) but makes a profit on top. Which would also be okay accept that some city workers loss their jobs so that cronies of city government officials could get a contract. Why did the aldermen let this happen?

According to Citizen-Times.com, Arizona law allows police officers to make an attempt to determine a person's immigration status only during a police stop for some other offense and if there is
"reasonable suspicion" that the person is an illegal immigrant. Police may only arrest a person if there is "probable cause" that the person is an unlawful alien with no valid ID.
I must advocate that law enforcement officers will be conducting unethical profiling to make arrests. Therefore, citizens who are legally here will be stereotyped and subjected to unnecessary probing of their personal information.

Singed,
P.O. in 23rd District

Don't worry "singed", according to our very own GO we cannot ask an arrestee or "probable cause" possible arrestee their naturalization status. We actually get in trouble for that, don't you know? That's why 1/2 of county jail is full of illegals who return to their paradise, also known as Chicago, to cause more mayhem and crime. You can thank our mayor for what this city has become. Have you noticed "singed" that almost every inner city public school's billboard shows some type of announcement in both English and Spanish? It's because the parent latino population don't, won't and can't speak English because guess what, they don't belong here, but their anchor babies are taking full-fledged participation in our public school system that we are paying taxes for. Get your thumb out of your ass and wake up.

What? No Christy Webber?? Friend to the Mells and Blago's? May I suggest a few goats to roam the area, make sure there is a shepherd to watch over the flock before some ghetto rat steals the goat and throws it into the ghetto bar-b-q, aka toxic drums.

This isn't actually a comment on your current post. It's a question that hopes to draw on your knowledge and experience.

Yo, 5/5-11:23am, read the concern person's msg, he dont want blow himself and wife up. Real police could put it together.

To the Citizan, this would normally be a case job that the old gangs unit would work. Now, i dont know who exactly but gang intelligence, i think, would be the ones to talk with. You definitely want to work with a unit that handle cases, the district/area gang tactical teams arent the same either.

SO THE BUILDING WAS BUILT LIKE SHIT.

BUT HAS ANY EXEMPT IN THE BUILDING FILED A SAFETY REPORT?

ITS FUNNY U GIVE A CLOWN A SPOT AND THEY CRY IF U PARK IN A SUPERVISOR SPOT BUT WHEN ITS TIME TO EARN UR PAY THEY WANT TO ACT LIKE THEY ARENT IN CHARGE. U EITHER R IN CHARGE OR KEEP UR FRICKING HEAD DOWN AND APPROVE CHARGES U NEED EXPLAINED TO U.

U SHOULD INFORM UR FOP UNION REP TO FILE A SAFETY COMPLAINT IT PRETTY EASY AND THE CLOWN WHO THINKS HE RUNS THE BUILDING WILL HAVE TO PUSH THE PAPER UP THE CHAIN. MAKE SURE U DOCUMENT TIMES/DATE AND DONT BE A LAME ASS AND TAKE SOME PICS W/ UR WIVES 300 DOLLAR DIGITAL CAMERA.

IF U DONT CARE THEN DEAL WITH IT HOPEFULLY U NEVER ARE HURT BUY LEAD POISON / MOLD/ OR GAS LEAKS THAT OCCUR WHEN BUILDING SHIFT AND PIPES BREAK.

I see private contractors all over the city doing jobs that should be done by government workers. Who are these people who are given access to crucial infrastructure? They are not screened, and as the police we do not even know if they belong in the manholes or on the utility lines. Also, how come the grass is not getting cut around the parks on the northwest side? Cut the grass and clean the streets, you pig politicians!

To the 023 District Ranger":

Let's look at two recent A/5 cases. Illegal African national shoots 13 year old girl in the head while he's 'bangin'. 2 pages of violent crime arrests and no deportation. Tell that girl's mom why you aren't enforcing that law this Mother's Day, won't you?

Illegal Mexican immigrant. Several arrests , no deportation. This pyro set HUNDREDS of fires in occupied and unoccupied buildings, yet the Mayor's sanctuary city policy kept him here.

Sleep well Mr. 023. You have your integrity to keep you warm at night. Dream about that mom on Sunday. will you?
