Chicago Homicide?

Who counts it? Illinois State Police are investigating:
  • A fight that started in a downtown Chicago nightclub led to a fatal shooting on the Stevenson Expressway early this morning, State Police say.

We assume this is counted in our totals as it happened within the city limits of Chicago?

no..its states jurisdiction and and technically doesnt count as city of chicago property.. i know this is gonna sound stupid but if a city of chicago snow plow or city of chicago utility doesnt serve it then its not chicago... even though its a road its not in chicago and not part of chicago..therefore the state police tally it themselves

OT: There is a very good chance that CFD is getting residency lifted in their new contract. To bad we could not get that done. Two of my neighbors who are firefighters put their homes on the market today, with more to come.

Was the shooter and the decedent both within the corporate limits of the City of Chicago when the shots were fired? The location where the argument began is irrelevant.

Here's another one I can't answer. At Madison St., it's proven that the shooter fires from EAST of Austin Blvd. (Chicago-015) and his bullets kill the vic standing across the street in Oak Park. Which jurisdiction gets the homicide?

In another scenario, if investigation clearly indicates the actual murder occurred in jurisdiction "A' and the body was then transported and dumped in jurisdiction "Z", who should get the homicide stat: "A" or "Z"?

Barring verified information that the fatal injuries occurred elsewhere, the homicide stat goes to the jurisdiction/district in which the body is found.

Re: fired gun on Madison

The city would have a UUW on Madison.

Oak Park would have a homicide because that is where the guy died.

For the express way, the ISP will conduct the investigation. BUT the crime is still in Chicago when they list the address of the homicide.

Just like if someone breaks into your house and takes your gun. Then goes elsewhere and shoots someone. Two separate crimes. Or robs you of your credit card and then uses it a store. Just because you have the guy with the credit card or gun doesn't mean he was the one who did the robbery or burglary.

That being said, in financial crimes its usually where the offender is at because it's a lot easier to arrest him and have some paperwork faxed over and conduct a phone interview than it is to ship the offender to the victim, across the state or country for example.

Dont believe for a second the residency for firefighters will be lifted. Daley always said you work for the city, you live in the city Allowing the firemen to live outside the city would open up the doors for us
Plus the firemens contratc is a way off and hasnt started the arbitration so why would you ever list your house and sell it before you were sure you got the benefit of living out of the city, not too smart

OT but funny. Chiquitia Russell has an accident and leaves the scene. Unfortunately she leaves the baby child in the car. Comes back 2 hours later and gets arrested. So the poleece must have put the baby on her?

About 2/3 years ago we get a garbage can floating in the river with a homicide victim inside.Investigation led us to the victims house in Stickney, where it was discovered that the house was where the murder took place.
Much to their dismay,Stickney got the case, even though they fought it tooth and nail.
Crime lab turned over all of the photos and evidence that they recovered including the garbage can
to them.Needless to say they wer'nt very happy campers.

OT-- For about the third or fourth Wednesday night in a row, a major 1 AM disturbance in 025 at "Belvedere's Grand Terrace," 6010 W. Grand. At least a dozen police units, Grand Avenue solid blue lights from Austin to McVicker with CFD Engine 125 (The Working Man's Engine, God bless them) blocking traffic (kinda like a linebacker.)

Pimped rides gettin' towed out of the middle of the mess, all sorts of M/2 wandering away clutching at their genitalia...

As I said, my money's on a shooting here before summer's out -- maybe before summer even begins. This is the worst I have ever seen it; real wild-ass shitbox this year.

Close it down.

See if we can get Chuck Goudie over here next week for comic relief...

I sure do.. after all, thats my job you dog ass.

FOP has fought this before though not since you came on most likely, we lost, then city had state law changed. FOP has introduced bills to get this lifted, it only effects cities over 1 million in population in Illinois. Chicago is the only one it covers.

daley's suckhole legislators kill it every time. Do some research, a lawsuit won't do anything, it is written into labor law.

Thanks the current mayor and remember that a great many police are not even registered to vote and 70% of registered voters do not even bother to vote in mayoral elections.

Want to help? Get your fellow officers registered to vote and make sure they come out to vote come election day.

The blog is great but they don't count blog comments on election day, they count votes.
