St. Jude's March

Almost no media coverage. The Tribune had a series of photographs on their BreakingNews site, but other than that, coverage seemed scanty at best.

There have also appeared in our comment sections a number of denigrating posts about the those wearing yellow ribbons or the perceived lack of yellow ribbons at the march. We don't know what parade they attended, but the yellow ribbons were very much in evidence from where we were. We were told there were only 2,000 Cozzi ribbons printed and we saw a few hundred at least - some worn behind stars, some interwoven with the traditional blue ones, some blowing in the light breeze. The 025th District was overly represented with yellow ribbons - we counted over 100 in the rank and file blue shirts.

All in all, a very respectful and dignified parade. Well done.

What's with the blurry action shot photos? Were we really marching that fast? Some joke of a photojournalist more interested in being "artistic" than actually capturing the moment.

This thing has turned into a circus. So to all you people saying this wasn't the place to wear the ribbon. I'm wondering if you said anything to the people that brough their dogs and had them pissing and crapping all over the parade route and gold star park. Face it how many would show up if this wasn't spring inspection?

And of course the press was not allowed to take a picture of a single yellow ribbon. That would have made Shortshanks and J-Fledger Hoover very angry and they might pout or something. This city could be second to none if it wasn't for our leadership (or lack thereof)

I mentioned not seeing any yellow ribbons in a previous thread. Obviously you felt it was denigrating as you failed to post it. It ws not meant that way at all. I would have loved to have seen the ribbons and would have loved to see the look on the faces of the bosses at the reviewing stand. But as I stated I did not see any. I did see plenty of people who don't know the proper way to wear a dress uniform and that I find disgraceful but a yellow ribbon in support of a policeman who has been railroaded is not a disgrace. Perhaps it is the way things are set up at the march but there is no longer the opportunity to see everyone the way there was when we were on Michigan Ave.

What a shame this event and the proud police who participate are now forced to take a backseat and placed on park district property in a remote area while we cater to all the bullshit parades, races, rally's that are allowed in our city. What happened to the Proud march we participated in along Michigan, then off to breakfast?

Today's march? What a shame the Superintendent stood alone at the reviewing stand. Where were all the other exempts that were supposed to be there, and be there on time? Where was our Mayor? The only thing we're guaranteed at St. Jude now days? Is the free parking. That's because all the damn meters and restrictions placed around the city to generate revenue.

It just amazes me that for one hour on a Sunday morning Da Mayo cannot get his nasty ass out of bed and walk the four blocks to see and honor what keeps this city afloat. The difference between law and order is the thin blue line. Remember it not just the loss of over 500 coppers. It is the loss of over 9,800 who were never able to return to work due to severe injuries due to being shot, stabbed, beaten, injured in car accidents, ECT I only saw two politicians who showed up to honor our parade. You would think this being a election year the reviewing stand would have been overflowing. It is obvious that the thin blue line is not important enough to say "Thank You for standing on that Wall" Jack N.

St Judes 2010-It appears that the CPD has reconciled it's differences with J-Fled and they all held hands and sang "kumbaya." Too many forgot about Cozzi and Haymaker and saluted the "man that ran". Hair gels milling around simply happy they can carry a gun and show it to their girlfriends, the crusties dreaming about overtime and special, they all drank the May batch of koolaide and believe that Dugan "has their backs" and that if they work hard they will get a puppy or the marine unit. Stand by as this fun filled summer becomes a nightmare for many because of the scum they saluted this day.

Most moving experience, too bad the powers to be allowed this statement of graditude for the sacrifices of men and women who gave their all be diminished by the route taken to the memorial.
The route could easily be south on Michigan to Roosevelt and east to the memorial. We must take steps to change this for next year. Hopefully the new FOP leadership will make this a signature of their independence from Daley because Markie fell right in line and allowed and assisted in the present route.
The continued NO SHOW by Daley should be the last nail in his removal from office. For any Chicago Police Officer or member of his/her family to vote for Daley for Mayor would in effect desecrate the very souls we honor.

I was very happy to see the number of officers that attended. Neither I nor my partner was going. I am glad our Sergeant took the time to remind me that this is for our brothers and sisters who have died, not for our Commander, Lucy Moy who should have been nothing more than a P.O., nor for our Superintendent who will go down in history as the absolute worst Superintendent in the history of the Chicago Police Department.

I am so happy that the numbers are trending upward. I feel sorry for our citizens, but maybe once they get fed up, the Mayor will finally listen and send Jfled and his $300,000.00 a year salary that the tax payers are paying, packing.

One last note, the Recognition Ceremony is fast approaching. Brust gets an FBI pension and a Police Salary of over 150,000.00 a year. Why did he not sell ONE ticket or even buy any tickets to the ceremony that is designed to recognize us for our most heroic efforts and to raise money and recognize our fallen or those that died the previous year. He returned tickets. Get this, so did your Assistant Superintendent Beatrice Cuello. Ask her how many tickets she purchased. Maybe one for herself. She is another being paid way beyond her level of competence. They had the nerve to have that conversation ear shot of someone I trust. I am only pointing these two out because last I checked the make a hell of a lot more money than us and represent upper management that is supposed to set an example. It’s funny how all the Commanders were stuck paying for tickets, but not those whose pensions far surpasses mine. I work harder in one hot weekend than either one of them do in a year!

By the way, where can I get a Cozzi ribbon? Bring back Chalky!

Well...

At least THIS time the cloven-hoofed imp didn't have his underlings at the Park District "acidentally intentionally" liberally fertilize the posies along the march route with the freshest and rankest of manure within mere days if not hours before we marched.

Anybody remember that cute little stunt?

First Responders = Second Class Citizens in Chicago.

Everything that's wrong with this city has been twisted to have CPD as the root cause by the Daley Inc. media spin machine.

Hole in every city agency budget?
...Blame CPD.

Out of control murder and mayhem on City streets?
...Blame CPD.

Sour local economy, people eating their 401K's, losing their jobs, and short selling their homes?
...You greedy coppers with your overtime, early retirements, sweet pensions & medical benefits and union (hah, funny) memberships are to blame because you won't share the pain of people who are pissed because they stood in the wrong line! (sarcasm of course!) It was in the papers so it must be true, right? (more sarcasm)

The majority seem only interested in making the Police out to be the enemy... Daley Inc. is thrilled because no one is asking them hard questions about 20+ years of high order criminality, theft, incompetence, malfeasance and just low-brow fuckery inflicted on the public.

In turn, they have a Police Department dangerously close to caring very little about anything other than physical, mental, emotional and financial survival while trying to mitigate any potential harm the public, media and the organization can and will inflict at the slightest pretext.

This city is gone insane...

Perhaps the Policeman SHOULD care less and be more selfish, defensive and less willing to sacrifice themselves or their time.

...Everyone else does it. Right?

Isn't that the crux of the matter? Policemen care so they continue to put up with being marginalized, degraded and insulted because there is work to be done? (Read between the lines)

Intentionally being starved to death of manpower, resources, equipment and training?

Maybe someone DOESN'T want the Police to be truly effective... Why not?

Oh yeah, that's right... It's all the fault of the Police that things are the way they are.

Pardon the rant SCC...

Glad to have been among our Police bretheren yesterday... We march not just because, but in spite of.

J-fled... You are a mean and hateful son of a bitch! Take off that uniform you high priced whore, you! How DARE YOU wear what so many men and women have made holy by virtue of their sacrifice! You mock their sacrifice by wearing that uniform on THEIR DAY OF REMEMBRANCE?

What manner of CREATURE are you?

What kind of people raised you up and call you their Son?

You are the Son an upright father damns to Hell and the devil from his death-bed, if not every moment he draws a breath.

Oh wait... you already serve shortshanks, the devil himself.

Thank goodness you can only inflict yourself upon some cats. Your progency would have been objects of much pity since children cannot pick their parents.

You're hollow and cast no shadow...

As someone who has a family member on the wall, I don't agree with those that say that St. Jude is not the place to wear those ribbons. Wearing those ribbons took nothing away from those honored on that wall, but it showed solidarity and made a big statement. Big statements need to be made at this point with the way this department is taking us.

What a nice day for the parade. A really good feeling to be a police officer and represent the department. Loved the fact the parade started on time. Tough break for the officer who had his car crash into the wall on Lake Shore Drive coming to the parade. There had to be some people really late to the parade cause it was right at the turn to get into the parking lot. That's why it is so important to plan ahead and leave early to attend this annual event. Breakfast was great afterwards with all the officers getting together at the district.

The recognizable police icons were there to call attention to the plight of Officer Bill Cozzi, who but for the Grace of God could be any one of us.

God Bless our Fallen, and their families, and those wronged by the system which puts political greed over honor.

2- Henny Penny standing in line with the exempts with big smile on her face like she new the fix was in.
3-Why does the detective division, assest forfeiture, and other "non-under cover units" not have to wear the uniform? They can't break it out for one day? At least they should be all the same, say black or navy blue suits. I saw a few white, beige, light brown, etc. Am I being picky wanting as many in uniform as possible?

'1932: Saint Jude Police League is established as an active sponsor of charities and to support Chicago officers. During the 1950s, the League initiated one of the Chicago Police Department's finest traditions: the annual march held on the first Sunday of May to honor the memory of every honorable police officer who ever served, and particularly those who died in the performance of duty.'"

You just provided ammunition >in favor< of wearing the ribbon; "...honor the memory of every honorable police officer who ever served..."

What's with the blurry action shot photos? Were we really marching that fast? Some joke of a photojournalist more interested in being "artistic" than actually capturing the moment.

They wanted to blurrrrr the Cozzi Ribbons.

Who took photos for CPD?

The Graphic Arts Unit, they will be busy air brushing out all the Cozzi Ribbons. Copies available through your C.O.s office.
Maybe they can fill in the Yellow Streak down Jody’s back or illustrate a version of
The Emperors New Clothes.

Keep looking, more later, none were sold, they were Bill's Birthday Present from a friend, and were done to keep some pride and fight on this job. No Department resources were used.

Sorry that more were not available and more widely distrbuted. They were litterly a flash inspriation at the last moment. We hope and pray that Bill will be free soon and Jody will be gone.

As a memeber of the Gold Star Families who is anyone to say that their loss is greater than another. Bill Cozzi has lost his freedom and what was his life. He served his punishment and then was given another. Tell me how many gang members get that. How fair is that? I honestly believe all of the fallen where standing up in heaven cheering you on. As i told Bill in a recent letter, only one person can say they had the greatest loss - Jesus Christ. If you are a true believer you understand.

It's been nearly eleven weeks since the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals three-judge panel heard oral arguments in U.S. v Cozzi, Case No. 09-2648 on Thursday, February 18th.

When their written opinion is finally posted, you can check at:

www.ca7.uscourts.gov

Click on "OPINIONS" in the left column and enter Case No. 09-2648

PRAY for a reversal.

---I also agree. I'm in OCD and have no idea why we're not in uniform. For the moron saying we wear suits because we look down on uniformed p.o.'s, you sir win the Asshat award for today. Do you really think we have a say in what we wear to St. Jude?!

A sergeant in my district told me that many, many supervisors in our district and others wear ribbons that they never earned. It is quite common.

SCC, I also feel that EVERYONE who participates in the yearly St. Jude March should appear IN A SPRING DRESS UNIFORM.

Any officer who gets killed in the line of duty should be able to be buried there, other wise that is just another attraction of Daley's.
