Another Multiple Police Shooting

  • A 25-year-old man with a history of tussling with police shot and killed one officer Monday in a gun battle at a suspected drug house that left four other officers wounded, authorities said.

The suspect has not been formally charged and police have not identified him publicly. But a person close to the investigation told The Associated Press the suspect's name is Jason Gibson, also known as James Everet. The person requested anonymity because the suspect hasn't been officially charged.

According to police, 42-year-old Officer Brian Huff and his partner were the first to arrive at the house after a 911 report of gunshots there. Before dawn, they entered the two-story building because the other officers who responded were less experienced.

A repeat offender with many run-ins with the police , including attempted disarming and Michigan's version of UUW, which of course, he failed to show up in court for, resulting in a warrant.

RIP Officer Huff.

"A history of tussling with the police"??? In normal-people-speak, that means police-fighter.

Unreal.

My sympathy to both families he left behind; the one at home and the big blue one, too.

This breaks my heart. A warrant for attempting to disarm a P.O. was issued for this pos in 2008 and he was picked up in 2009 and still out on the streets!?

A neighbor calls about being acosted by dope dealers and the house wan't torn down or boarded up!?

The "abandoned" house next to my building caught fire twice (although I think the owner got struck w/a case of greek lightening) before it was torn down.

God's speed, Officer Brian Huff & God bless your loved ones.

As for the suspect, I hope you got hit just right and can never walka baing and have to piss in a bag for the rest of your miserable life....while rotting in prison.

Detroit is truly a failed city.

All honor to the brave officers who fight to preserve some shreds of law and order there at risk of their lives. Officer Huff was one of the best, as shown by his taking the lead in this dangerous situation.

Condolence to his family, and may his wounded comrades return to health.

FYI: "Police" misspelled in the heading...

Just a civilian who respects the police (but is allergic to typos).

"A 25-year-old man with a history of tussling with police" "Tussling with police"??? Is this now the MSM politically correct way to call a hardcore criminal who fights? Yes, lets put a kinder, gentler name on an asshole.

Rich and to the other fine citizens who are not police officers who post on this blog- it really isn't necessary for you to state "just a civilian". I am a cop in 025 and not for a single minute do I think I am better and other people who are not cops are "just civilians".

Rich thanks for posting on our blog.

When is America going to get tired of this shit. For example, a man suspected of at least thirty burglaries in West Virginia was caught. He was charged with one burglary and then given a one year sentence.

This mutt who killed a police officer in Detroit was out on bail and didn't even go to court.

We need to build more prisons so all of the assholes know that this isn't a game.

My partner and I arrested a guy with a stolen auto. This piece of shit told us in the station "I am not talking and you can't make me talk. In a few hours after you wasted your time, the state's attorney will deny felony charges and I will walk out of this joint with a misdeameanor charge".

I can't believe that they didn't use the term "Fussin'" instead of Tussling.

I see that Journalism Schools stil teach proper English.

If you haven't been to Detroit, the entire city looks like 011, even the downtown area is shabby.

Rich thank you for your post. We know there a a majority of people who respect the job we do. As said before, we are no better than you. Your kind words are appreciated.

We speak about Detroit as a hell hole, but this is the first police officer killed in years on their department. At least their city seems to care about their police officers and the job they do. Remember this happens everywhere. The sad part is it just happens too often. It can be anyone of us, anytime, anywhere. Please be safe and watch out for each other.

Dear Scc: I'ts at times like this that I forget why I do this job. God bless the Detroit PD and the officers and their families.

Unfortunately too many people in position in this city as well as most other cities, Detroit included, do not take it seriously when an officer gets tusseled with. How many times, every day, do we get the shit kicked out of us only to have detectives pissed off because we expect them to work the case and states attorneys snicker at us because we think we are better than every one else and expect felony charges. We say things like what does it take? Well nothing, I guess cause we keep on getting killed and nothing changes. Any states attorneys browsing like to chime in and explain? I guess it doesn't matter anyway - it doesn't appear that we have any choice, only to quit but then someone else will get hired to take that place.

Here is a little of the Sheepdog-story, compliments of Father Nangle:

If you’re the police, you surely know about Lt. Col. David Grossman (U.S.Army, ret.) who has written passionately and eloquently about being the police in our disordered society. (I’d love to meet him and shake his hand some day.) He uses images to talk about the lane of life coppers operate in: The citizens are sheep, the bad guys are wolves, the police are sheepdogs who herd the sheep and protect them from the wolves. It’s in the DNA of the sheepdogs to be that way. They come in to this world hard- wired for it. It’s not so much what they do…it’s who they are.

This is just a bit of the story, just to clarify why I called Officer Huff a sheepdog - for holding the line between good and evil, God Bless him!

yeah, "sheepdog". Take Col Grossmans's course on the "Warrior Mindset". It's being held at HQ in the near future. His theory is that 98% of the public are like sheep, peaceful but oblivious. One percent are wolves out do harm to the sheep. We are the other 1% that are sheepdogs, our job is to protect the sheep.
