Police Week - Got a Ribbon?
During National Police Week (the calendar week that includes May 15), C.O.P.S. encourages the display of blue ribbons on car antennas. C.O.P.S. distributes over 1,000,000 blue ribbons prior to National Police Week to law enforcement agencies to display on cruiser antennas.
Law enforcement personnel are encouraged to tie blue ribbons to cruiser antennas. Citizens are encouraged to tie blue ribbons to their car antennas. These blue ribbons are a reminder of law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice and in honor of those men and women who serve their communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year in and year out.
This project takes place in February, March, and April every year.
Any strip of royal blue ribbon will work.

what the hell is a cruiser?
What the hell is a car antenna? I don't have one anymore.
It would be a beautiful thing to see every car on the road sporting a blue ribbon this week.
THERE IT IS!! Right in the published story - CRUISERS!! See? I've been telling you all it's "cruisers" all along.
I love my cruiser. You should love your cruiser too.

If you get a chance to attend a seminar held by Concerns of Police Survivors on how to handle line of duty death and serious injury notifications please go.
They were very informative, and the stories told by the family members were very moving. The information also would keep you from making many common mistakes that are often made at those tragic times.
Stay safe, let's no have to knock on anybody's door we know.
Makes me wish my car had an antenna...
Big thanks to 1323 for bringing the ribbons to OEMC today! We will display them with great pride! Thanks, Zone 3.
Stay safe out there.
Just tie the ribbon to the antenna on your cruiser and it will fly in the breeze as your bringing your next collar down to the precinct.
I'm starting a new club. It is called "THE HALF-MILLION MILE CLUB". In order to get into this club, you have to work the street for four days as a patrolman. During those four days, your odometer readings on your squad cars have to amount to an aggregate total of 500,000 or more miles. The circumference of the earth is what? !0,000 miles? So in four days you drive cars that could circumnavigate the globe 50 times.
130,000, 140,000 90,ooo, 140,000, you are in. The first five to win will be designated "The Magellan Group."
If you have an outdoor light on your house, replace it with a blue light. Leave it on all night to show your support for our brothers in blue!

And make sure you have a gun to protect yourself and your family, because the bad guys will break into your home first.
TYPO: "Stay safe, let's no have to knock on anybody's door we know.

Should read: Stay safe, let's NOT have to knock on anybody's door we know.
Dear SCC,
I've been wearing a ribbon, also my blog has linked several of your posts this week.
I've been trying to give some tributes to law enforcement and some hints to the public at large of the many annoyances attendant to police work that create extra risk and hardship.
As for that half-million mile club, that sounds like a great idea. I'm sure Kass or Joravich would love to have the stats.
Thanks to all of you for your good work,
and thanks to you SCC, for aggregating the issues in your world and giving us a glimpse.
