J-Fled's New Partner?

What the hell is this at the bottom of the Channel 2 report about the Old Navy murder/suicide?
  • Chicago police say there was an immediate response to the shooting. Sources say a Chicago police officer was patrolling in her squad car and was alerted by three people who ran out of the store.

The officer turned the corner in her squad car in traffic, getting out with her gun drawn, approaching the store, then re-holstering her gun and getting back in her squad car. She never went in. A sergeant had already gone into the store.

A police spokesperson said detectives are looking at video from cameras in the area as part of their investigation. The spokesperson added no one has claimed any wrongdoing on the part of the officer.
You know what? If that video exists, we're going to claim wrongdoing on the part of the officer. We've just spent a month ripping J-Fled for fleeing the scene of a shooting a couple of blocks away ON VIDEO. God forbid we have a videotaped incident of an officer exiting a car, approaching and then retreating from a building where a gunman just killed someone. At least stick around the doorway and get the civilians out.

You've got a gun for pete's sake.

If this is true, she can't be charged with any wrongdoing if J-Fled wasn't. The precedent has been set.

As someone who works 99 regularly in 001, I have to say I'm not surprised in the least. The workers who back each other up regularly know who each other are. The "others", you see at roll call and check-off. Downtown has many places to spend an entire tour.

Slightly off topic, but it has some bearing, I strongly encourage my fellow officers to see the movie "Harry Brown". The movie makes several excellent visual points into different aspects of our training and interaction with the mutants that we deal with. It also shows a female detective who stands by and watches her partner get killed without taking any action. We'll be seeing more cowardice this summer, not just J-Fled or this female PO, but let's face it, there are a LOT of people here who simply "needed" a job. Saw the same thing in the army with guys who just enlisted for college money, and found out that we'd actually have to fight.

There is no more despicable trait in a so-called police officer than COWARDICE, regardless of rank. You always back your brothers and sisters in harm's way.

Liar J-Fled claims the Englewood homicide scene was "secure" and that his presence would be a "distraction". His crock of shit is an insult to our honor and intelligence. Any officer knows that we swarm to a "man shot" unless a total disregard has been given. "Secure"? How does that explain that the murderer escaped on foot with our "leader" only seconds away?

Oh. He's "gotta run"--the other way. Why? The coward is so arrogant that he expects us to actually believe his bullshit. J-Fled will go to his grave as the COWARD he truly is.

If the facts prove that the 1st Dist. officer turned tail at Old Navy, she should also be fired in disgrace.

WE ARE THE POLICE! We roll towards danger with caution. It's what we do.

RESIGN, COWARD!

I have seen the video and she is a total coward allowing the sergeant to enter the store alone. She never entered the store at any point of the investigation. She needs to be fired and can look for a new line of work in the private sector. If this guy had been shooting at multiple people instead of just one person, many people could have died due to her cowardice. I took no great pleasure running into the building looking for this guy today but that's the job we signed up for. She's an embarrassment to the department and has no business on this job. I'm sure the bosses will just ignore this like everything else. I have no problem with her waiting for another officer to arrive on scene before she enters the store but never entering the store shows she's just a coward.

She should have immediately called a 10-1 with shots fired and enter the store with caution. Consider the possibility that the woman shot (fatally) was only the first of multiple homicide victims. A courageous responding officer could have thwarted a massacre.

I know, naysayers. I wasn't there.

But believe me, I've "been there; done that".

If this is true. I'm not a one way Policeman. He or She if that is what happened, running in the sense of danger puts us all in danger. Any one who abandons their duty needs to be weeded out and dumped from this job. There are way to many people hidding in spots and running from the action. This is how the real Police are getting hurt. I just pry that this is not happening.

I hope to heaven this is not true. The sad reality is that there are individuals who run from danger. When Cabrini was still jumping there was a female who refused to get out of the car while her partner did, because the gunman had just run right past them IN FRONT of the car. Her response, "I did not come on this job to get killed. I have kids." We were pissed, because her partner had kids, too.

No one wants to be a hero, but being a coward is a choice - I am not talking about tactical retreats, or attempting to get time, distance and shielding, either.

Then its a race w/ or w/out other units to pin point and try to get the gun man. Everyone including Jody should train in the fast pace districts so you can learn to be the police.

I know this will be unpopular and I don't excuse his actions, but I had put much of the blame for J-Fled's fleeing on his handler that day. If I recall correctly you see the reaction to the shots fired, then you see the handler talking in his ear. When I saw that, all that I could think is that she, the handler, was telling him we should leave.

J-Fled was brought here to administrate and do what 'shanks wanted done ie. be the scapegoat/bad guy.

Now as for the P.O., she should be held to the higher standard, she has gone through our academy, and knows that you always back each other up. If not then get the fuck off the job! I don't mean get a spot in side get the fuck out.

Off topic, but maybe if OSHA got hit with numerous complaints and accompanying photos, they would be forced to do inspections (especially if the complaint documents the problem has been unadressed for years). If nothing else, it paves the way for a class action lawsuit against the city maybe, when the city fails to address the problem. Those photos are pretty telling, and provide great documentation of clear code and safety violations. Time to unite the crazy environmentalists and the cops! Okay, maybe not, but here is info on the complaint process:

Stone Park police officer shot in the face
May 8, 2010 7:45 AM | No Comments | UPDATED STORY
A Stone Park police officer was shot in the face early Saturday morning while conducting a traffic stop, police said today.

The incident occurred about 2:54 a.m. when Stone Park police stopped a car for "suspicious activity" near the intersection of Mannheim Road and Division Street in the western suburb, according to Stone Park Police chief Giuseppe Capece. After the stop, someone in a nearby strip mall opened fire on two officers. At this time, police believe there is no connection between the traffic stop and the shooting.

One of the officers was hit in the face, Capece said. That officer, a male who has been on the force for three years, was transported to Loyola Medical Center. Capece said his injuries are not considered life-threatening and that doctors are trying to determine whether or not he will need surgery.

Police made two arrests, Capece said. One was a person who is believed to be involved in the shooting; the other was involved in the traffic stop. Neither has been charged.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation, Capece said. Officers remained on the scene as of 7 a.m. gathering evidence.

I worked for more than ten years in a busy district on midnights. I had a steady partner for most of that time. Looking back, we did a lot of reckless and foolhardy things. Many times we would act impulsively, and run into dangerous situations.

That said, to this day, I still "Run in first" or second if my crazy partner "goes first"..But I always say a quick, silent prayer while I'm putting myself in harms way.

I'D RATHER DIE ON DUTY, THAN EMBARRASS, OR HUMILIATE MYSELF, BY ACTING COWARDLY!!!

Pause for your own thoughts as to why the once proud CPD is crumbling; as for me I will hard charge to the finish line and retire with self respect and dignity this year...proud to have served with some of the finest men and women in Chicago. Police: Will Co. sergeant justified in shooting
Comments

May 8, 2010
By STEPHANIE GEHRING sgehring@southtownstar.com

A Will County sheriff's police sergeant who shot a man last month while responding to a report of a home invasion in Frankfort Square will return to regular duty next week.

"Both the state's attorney's and internal investigations have been completed," said Patrick Barry, spokesman for the Will County sheriff. "The shooting was definitely justified."

The sergeant who shot Richard Petrick, 48, of Merrillville, Ind., in the right eye April 9 was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigations. He was assigned to desk duty. He is expected to return to normal duties next week.

Petrick's weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.

"It's so realistic," Barry said. "He shot windows out. No wonder the family thought it was real."

Petrick remains in jail in lieu of bond on charges of home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated stalking, aggravated assault and violating an order of protection.

Petrick shot his way into an ex-girlfriend's home in the early morning hours, police said. Prior to the incident, he had called the woman and left a voice mail message that said he wanted to die and the police were going to shoot him, according to court records.

The sergeant came face to face with Petrick in the woman's living room. He ordered Petrick to drop the gun but Petrick refused, police said.

To the first commenter, you are correct! There are a ton of "pussycats" that got on the job in the last five years that shouldn't be on the job. I have witnessed several acts of cowardice in the 007th district, which is flooded with these "three year wonders". Watching a man with a gun flee a scene and saying nothing on the air to alert responding officers much less chasing the guy down. Of course my comment does not mean to say that most of the 007th district isn't the hardest workin' police you'll ever meet. It just really sucks when you are fighting a crowd in a 10-1 and you have a couple of officers just standing on the sidelines with their thumbs up their asses.

What she did was unacceptable. Anybody on this department no matter who it is has no excuse for this. We are all here to back each other up. You never, but never leave a fellow officer no matter what rank they are go into anything like this alone. Not from a disturbance to shots fired. You never know what can occur on any call. Any call can escalate and go to shit. We are always at danger of being overpowered, stabbed or shot. The main thing is we always go in. You may be cautious when you do it, but you still go in. There is no reason for her not to have entered the store. Not when someone went in alone. The first and foremost thing at any scene is make sure that the 99 officer is safe. If someone said to cover the back, she still should have went in and let units arriving after her to do that. Safety first. I hope somebode gives up who she was. She should be dragged over the coals by every copper in the city. She don't deserve anonimity. We all know someone who has done something like this. But it is crucial to know who to trust with your back and who not to trust. That way you can act accordingly on a call.

May be it's lack of training. CPD is more worried about how to properly address a trans gender than tactical entry. Running in like John Wayne and being the next victim or shooting someone innocent is not right either. Go into e-learning when was the last time she recieved training for this type situation. The 001 and 018 dist are where something big is going to happen but still no training. Just get out there and get your 5 contact cards 5 movers 5 parkers. She is not the problem it's the dept.

I suggest all of you halt this rush to judgment. It sound more likely, at least to me, that the P.O. was given a disregard by someone since by all appearances she had every intention of entering the building but stopped short of actually going in. Remember both parties were DOA, therefore it is very possible that the Sgt. gave the officer a disregard. Someone else might have as well since the P.O. was 99; she could have been told to cover the rear (not that that makes any sense, but I wasn't there. There may have already been plainclothes officers inside the store, it could have been anything but it doesn't sound like cowardise to me. It sounds more like either a miscommunication or a redirect order.

A sergeant entering the building
Over a minute later the officer finally approaching the store with her gun drawn, looking into the store putting her gun away and a quick backwards retreat while the Sgt remained in the building. WTF!!!!!! look it up in the camera archives -1100-1104hrs or so

No the officer should call for an assist. You hair Jello police are always calling a 10-1- that was not a 10-1. a 10-1 is an officer shot at or attacked.

An Assist is I need some help- You Jello boys call a 10-1 on a traffic stop! I'm the real police your the sissy police. Stop calling 10-1 all day long.

Are you kidding she was probably shopping in the store, and Car 47 has already asked for the recordings to see what she was doing, and her status at the time of the event.

I take as much offense to her being called a Police Officer as I do when I see J-FLED wearing the uniform of the Chicago Police Dept.

She MAY wear a uniform, and she MAY recieve a check on the 1st and the 16th... Hell-THAT DOESNT MAKE HER THE POLICE- anymore than jody wearing the uniform.
She was just a do nothing CAPS body that was dumped to the watch.

SHE NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL BE THE POLICE.

TRANSCRIPT of the WIND-AM 560 interview in which Jody Weis attempts to defend "gotta run"
(Underscoring mine):

- - - - - - - - - - - -

The scenario went down like this. We were giving a press conference outside. At sometime during the press conference, there was that unfortunate shooting a few blocks away. I never heard the shots. I had no indication there was a shooting and the press conference continued on for another fifteen minutes or so. Then I was doing some on camera interviews, I think with Channel 7 and Channel 2 I believe. At that time, my PIO came up to me and said 'hey, we've got to go' and I said 'no, no. I'm in the middle of an interview'. (He again said)'hey, we have to go. There's been a shooting'. So I excused myself from the interview and I said 'Was there a shooting? Was it a police officer? What just happened?' (The PIO said) 'No, about fifteen minutes ago, there was a shooting'. And I said 'Where was it?' He goes 'a few blocks from here'. So I was going to go and respond to it. 'When did this happen?' And he said 'a few minutes ago' So I called over there and said 'Hey, what's the situation?' The victim had already transported out. The crime scene had already been secured. Everything was in place. And your (host Howell) logic is exactly the same as mine. When I show up at a scene, you know, I tend to be a distraction, you know. The highest ranking person is running over to me. They want to give me a brief. They know what's going on. I already knew what's going on and if I'd gone to that scene, all it would have been a distraction. I have total confidence in the guys below me that handle a crime scene at a shooting.

Unfortunately, we do that a lot in Chicago. So for me to go over there, I actually thought it would just be a distraction. I already had another appointment I had to go to. I wanted to get back to the office, meet that obligation, turn around, you know, get ready and go out that night down to the South Side and do some foot patrolling myself. So it was just a decision based on the totality of the circumstances. But, uh, that was my logic. To go there, the scene was already secure. The victim had been transported away and the guys had it totally under control. So, my first, my biggest fear had I walked over there, the cameras would have followed me and I'd been accused of grandstanding and trying to make some big play for the media which is not my style at all.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

NOTE: The murder of Reginald MYERS (R.D. No. HS-238292) at 6948 S. Paulina St. remains unsolved. The shooter escaped the "secured" homicide scene. No slowdown or disregard was given on Zone 6 radio. Channel 2 reporter Kristyn Hartman and others heard the gunfire and the sirens from 6601 S. Marshfield Ave.

GOTTA RUN!

Outstanding as usual. Is J-Fled deaf? Everyone else heard the shots. Notice how 15 minutes turns into "a few minutes". "Distraction", my ass. A killer is loose with a gun and J-Fled has "gotta run" to the office rather than back up the troops in harm's way and possibly lock up an armed killer hiding nearby. A "secure" scene? J-Fled is a disgrace.

In wartime military, he'd be shot by a firing squad for cowardice.

Shortshanks, the media and OIG will go for the whitewash and a big cover-up. This is Chicago. Among other things, J-Fled knows that we know he's a lying COWARD.

Are you an idiot. So she and the Sgt. should have just stood there outside until a third showed up. If it took awhile they could have stood outside and had a coffee while waiting.
IF THIS GUY WAS SHOOTING MULTIPLE PEOPLE, YOU JUST WAIT. So you would have shown the same cowardice. Sorry Sarge you are on your own.
If this is your mentality, take your ass and fucking quit. You are a disgrace to every brave officer on this department who gave their life because they weren't afraid to run to not from the danger. Wether they were alone, with a prtner or with a group of officers. The Sergeant did the right thing. There are no policies when shit is hitting the fan. You go and do what has to be done. Going in with 3 people may be great for a swat situation, but the first on scene do what they have to do. The Sergeant did the right thing. The fucking coward behind him screwed up. The one rule that applies to everyone on this department, everywhere everyday is make sure you back your fellow PO's. Like I make sure Every PO I see on a traffic stop or street stop is ok. Even when the State Police are on a stop, I pull up and make sure they are ok. There is no policy for those first on scene except make sure your fellow officer, no matter what rank is ok and has cover.
I can't even believe you would agree with her cowardly actions and put the Sgt. in the wrong. Ther are cowards on this job male and female. You are just asinine enough to be one more.

I came on the job in 1973 and learned from the then old timers. There was no FTOs only 3rd watch dog ass police men who the new guys got stuck with. These old guys were slow and deliberate in their police work and not overly aggresive. But the one thing I learned from the VERY FIRST DAY and it continued until I retired in 2003 ( for the most part) was always, always go towards the gunfire. Always back up your fellow officer and never ever show fear, you may be afraid but dont show it. When Columbine High School happened in Colorado .It was well before our bull shit school violence response order. I and my fellow tac officers all agreed that would never ever happen in Chicago, waiting outside for backup to come and secure the perimiter while an active shooter was inside. That is why those kids died in Columbine and why it would not happen here. WE RUN TO THE GUNFIRE. That is how we were trained and that is how it would work out because the first officer in knew it wouldn,t be long before twenty other guys were also there RUNNING TO THE GUNFIRE. That is how we were trained in school but mostly in the field by the older guys on the job.On Many a call I was scared. my partner was scared we could hear the gunfire but we went anyway , Why because we were the real police and people were being shot and needed us. The new generation does not have similar training and instincts. Training techinques have changes as have the demographics of the police force. Why do you think J-Fled never responded to that shooting in Englewood, No experience in local law enforcement, no CPD hands on, got to get their to back the troops up experience. What a contrast he was to the video shot the day before in Englewood when shots were fired while all those officers were on the scene. Did you see what those officers were all doing, RUNNING TO THE GUNFIRE not cowering, like the citizens who were hiding on the ground, or saying I gotta go like J-Fled did they ran to the gunfire . True Heroes like most all police officers in Chicago . No excuses for that female officer who did not go in that store to back up that Sgt. Shes a coward no way around it. Do you think that Sgt. was scared? I guarantee you he was but that didnt stop him from going to the gunfire, because thats what we do in Chicago. Iam now retired and enjoying my self . Do I miss the job? Sometimes I miss the clowns, but not the circus. My heart goes out to all the officers now stuck with a true lack of leadership at the top. I worked for 8-10 superintendents during my time on the CPD. Although some were good and some were bad I am pretty sure they all would have ran to the gunfire because that is what we do on the CPD, thats why J-Fled will never ever be one of us.

All you people that say you should run into a shots fired situation 99 are absolutely retarded.
You never go into an active shooter situation alone. NEVER! unless its your partner that takes one as you both enter.

OTHERWISE WE WILL BE ATTENDING YOUR FUNERAL!

Obviously all you "real police warriors" who are commenting haven't a clue on how to use tactics and numbers. Tactics are how officers go home instead of 6ft under.

Do you know how many shootrs are in there? do you know where they are? One person is a huge disadvantage. You wait for a partner and shoud wait for 3-4........especially in a building that big. More often you will be a martyr rather than a hero.

I second that one. I'm a female cop with 22 years on. I've had more than a few male officers chicken up when I needed them The funny thing is they were usually the officers that bulked up and were into their physique. Any cop who can't back up another cop, no matter your gender needs to get off this job.

Hey guys, you know what? Not all crime happens on the south and west side. I don't work in 001 so I can't speak for that district but I will tell you, the crime you get on the north side is a lot MORE INTERESTING! the city does have crime on the north side just not the same as south or west side districts have. We get all kinds of wacky homicides not just your run of the mill shooting over dope or territory. We get religious, domestic, sexual, cultural, home invasion, etc. murders. We get all sorts of people committing all sorts of CSA with family and others, we get a bunch of crimes that are different than what south and west side get but that doesn't make the north side lacking in crime. I'd really like it if we wouldn't compare so much.

The only reason why I don't work on west or south side is because the crimes would bore me. All shooting, all the time for the same reasons day in and day out would be BORING. But that's just my personal opinion.

Sure you'd love to have the option to have 3-4 PO's enter, but sometimes you have to do things wothout that option. We are sworn to serve and protect. The Sergeant made the right call in the situation. Whatever anyone says, He did what a cop is supposed to do. You are on this job to save lives. As anyone in their right mind, he was propably scared shitless, but he acted the way it had and should be done. You don't stand there and wait. It can cost innocent peoples lives. Yes he could have been shot and killed, but he acted as he should have. We don't have the option many times to sit back and wait. The only thing that was totally incorrect was the officer who did not follow. We are the first and last line of defense. When you are 99 there are calls you have an option to wait for another unit. But many times you can't. This was one of them. Sergeant, I'll work with you any day of the week. At least you showed the courage and sense to do what we are sworn to do. for those of you with the comments about going in alone, take a few tips from how the sarge acted. Maybe while you are at it you can grow a pair and start acting like the police and not a coward. THE CHICAGO POLICE RUN TOWARDS THE DANGER, NOT AWAY, NO MATTER WHAT. That's what cops do. You do what is needed amd hopefully backup is quick.

For the poster who commented that no one should have entered until there were at least 3 cops on scene and this poster, that is why this department isn't worth a shit anymore.
To the previous poster who commeted about gender, you are 100 percent correct. There are females on this job I would work with any day of the week over many males. This job is not about gender, but the person. Some people freeze when things go to shit, others just act and do the job. I'll take someone who acts before someone who has to stand there anytime. I've got 20 years on. I've always been old school and always will be. May not be the greatest thing, but I sure as hell ain't letting any comrade go in alone. For those bashing the Sergeant, quit and find a nice desk job somewhere. you aren't doing us any good being on the job.

Wow, you respond to a shots fired call in a store and you decide that makes it a 10-1?

How about asking for an emergency assist instead?

Many friends of mine have got injured on the way to a 10-1. ONLY call it when you are at the gates of hell, you hump.
-----------------------------------

Years ago when communications was at 11th and State the dispatcher heard a situation we were in. We called for an emergency assist. He said over the radio "fuck that, 10-1". What he walked into was a 10-1. Officer needs help now. Emergency assist and 10-1 are in essence the same. You get there if you have to run someone over. Active shooter in a store and he is alone. If that don't mean get there 2 minutes ago, I don't know what does.

By the way when i called for that emergency assist, there were 4 cops on scene. Me and a recruit were fighting our asses off while 2 male PO's stood there. so there goes the blanket statement about female PO's. First car on scene was 2 female PO's you Jumped right in and we finaly got things under control. The 2 male PO's were still standing there. The bitch about it was everything was under control at that call until the steroid pumped male PO who froze started Mother fucking the guys we ended up fighting with. They had the talk, but not the walk.

If shots fired in a store in the loop, which is open for business, isn't a 10-1 to you then stay away from me you hump.

How 'bout explaining that over the air instead of calling the 10-1. Responding coppers want as much info as possible regarding the situation that they are responding to. They hear 10-1 and think that you are being shot at or beat the fuck up. Calling out 10-1 just because it's a fucked up situation means you cannot handle the situation.

If this is true she could have at least backed up her Sgt. She left the Sgt hanging and that's messed up. He/she could have been injured in that situation. What's also messed up is, if that is her regular m.o she will get another P.O hurt. She needs to be off the street.

While I don't condone this female's actions as she obviously wasn't doing anything in regards to what I am about to say..........HERE IT IS

5/08/2010 10:25:00 PM

I hope your family isn't in that store with the shooter while a coward waits outside for 3-4 assist officers to arrive!!

To the younger officers reading these posts about the south and west sides: The patch on your shoulder reads "Chicago Police". Nobody should wear that patch and that flag without experiencing the south and/or west sides. I've worked in 9 different places in my 23 years on this job. Most of the memorable experiences AND long term relationships that I've built were on the west side, and I don't mean 012, 013, or 014, I mean the real west side. I've seen plenty of unique things up in Area six (three to you younger people), but the core experiences only come from the ghetto. That's what sets us apart from suburban departments. Don't give in to comfort or complacency, this is your career and 25 years will go by quickly. The ghetto guys know what I'm talking about, guys and gals who have seen an entire block go up. Ghetto coppers can spot a poser right away. I doubt if anyone who has moved around on this job would disagree. It's your career, none of us got drafted, we chose this job. Invest in some ghetto time, and you will be able to handle anything this career can throw at you. Then you can take those talents back to some slower district.

Kudos to the Sgt. Last year, I was on a disturbance with a mental call when it suddenly went south. My Sgt. and an old timer PO just stood outside the door watching as I fought hard with the mental. Many thanks to the CFD medic who assisted me until I got the cuffs on. We couldn't believe that they just stood there like that. The kicker: the Sgt. screamed at me on scene and wanted a To/From as to why I acted so slowly then changed his mind and said it wasn't necessary, but managed to start a nasty, untrue rumor that I had a "mental block" on that job and put HIM in harms way. The two-faced old timer PO just played along. I never, ever thought that this could happen, after all, this is the CPD! We back each other up no matter the race, gender, religion, etc. of our fellow department members. BUT, I am the real FOOL. I made a career change (and took a pay cut) to follow my dream to join the CPD and now I realize what a joke this job is. At the end of the day, nobody really cares. Not Da Mayor, not the courts, not our bosses, nor baby's momma whose life you just saved b/c dude threatened her with a gun at 3am. My family, my faith, and my pride keep me going. I'm sorry, but F*CK YOU, JFLED. I wish I could've worked for Sgt. Northen. He is such a breath of fresh air.

Most SOPs that I have read for Departments are geared at confronting the Active Shooter. So are most Active Shooter/Rapid Response classes are geared towards. The active shooters continue until their "agenda or mission" is accomplished and then usually commit suicide or wait to shoot it out and die in a hail of gunfire.

A large percentage of the shooters usually commit suicide shortly before confronted.

Alot was learned from Columbine. Waiting outside is unfortunately not the answer. Waiting for groups of three would be great, but again due to manpower constraints at various Departments not always feasible, especially considering some of the loads and poor shots that are on the job.

You MUST confront the active shooter immediately! You are saving lives by doing this --- to do nothing is signing a death warrant for whomever is inside.

I second that one. I'm a female cop with 22 years on. I've had more than a few male officers chicken up when I needed them The funny thing is they were usually the officers that bulked up and were into their physique.
------------------------------
That's right. They love their body. If they get hurt, it will cost them time at the gym. It will take a loing time to build up their bench press again.

First off take a pill douche bag. If somebody nees an emergency assist or there is a 10-1, basically you bust your ass to get there. Many coppers will call for an immediate assist when it warrants a 10-1. Hair gel call 10-1's for nothing. A situation that warrants an immediate assist turns into a 10-1 in a blimk of an eye. An assist is get me an extra car who is near. An immediate assist, which must be what some are calling emergency assists, actually never heard that, is I need help now. A 10-1 is I need help now. Now go back to your inside job or desk job, whichever it may be. To bring back an old term, you are a true ASSHAT. By your reply I am damn sure you are one of the coppers who wouldn't go in until others showed up or would do the same thing as the copper who was right behind the Sgt. Are you on the list to become J-Fled's driver. People like you with your idiotic rantings are why this fucking department has gone to shit. You have got to sit there and evaluate everything before you act. This job teaches you to immediately react from instinct, not look up in the books what is what in a situation. Thank you Mr. Policeman.

Signed,
A COP

011 Ranger from the 80's

The "real West Side" do you mean all that vacant real estate out there? Do you know what 4001 was? Do you remember A4/TF? Were you there when Madison, Pulaski, Roosevelt, and Fifth Avenue burned to the ground? How about telling a few stories from the late 60's and the early 70's when the reputation was made. Real good, old timer, remembering Area Six. That changed in the 90's. Today the West Side is a weak shadow of its former self. Hell, the Black Panthers have been replaced by yuppies. Stop talking about stuff you wished that you did. You weren't there. Deal with today's problems. By the way, lose the 011 Ranger thing. It sounds pimpy.

Yes, that's the current thinking. But if you read the comments on this topic, you'll note all kinds of differing opinions on when to go in, how many should go in and what constitutes a 10-1.

All of these differing opinions point out one major underlying issue; a lack of training.

Let's face it, our hands-on training is practically non-existent. You might see a streaming video on a topic, but usually it's something touch-feely like diversity, or the abandoned child law. Hell, last week they showed the St. Jude video SIX TIMES!

Our training just sucks. If you don't bother to get any on your own, or pick up a national police publication from time to time, whatever you got in the academy is all you'll ever get.

In the end, doing something is better than doing nothing.

I don't know who this female officer is.... I will say i had one great FTO who was not an FTO, but as she told me the first day in the squad car was, "I'm stuck with you, sit down, shut the fuck up and LEARN". I didnt like her, I still don't like her, but I sure did learn alot from her. She wound up retiring last year from 015 as a SGT. What I didn't know and found out a few years later is L. G. disarmed an armed robber at a bank in 024. She was and still is the real police, she taught me alot about safety, entering a building, going in the direction of shots fired and not fleeing but fighting on my feet. She was the poster girl for being the "real police" as a woman.

NOW what i really wanted to say was.... Those scenario's they used in the academy were useless. They had this EXACT scenario in the academy when i was in..... I gave my location, I called for backup and i entered the room, turned left, and there was an instructor with a shotgun behind the door, i shot him, then shot the offender at the table with the hostage.... STOP PLAY!! I FAILED........... The instructors told me I SHOULD WAIT FOR BACK UP before entering the building. I disagreed in not so nice way, as did my classmates. I shot both bad guys and the hostage was safe. Again a scenario in the academy..... BUT aren't they suppose to be similar to real life?

I am a broad, i loved the job, and i say she should be fired....... We are paid to run towards gunfire not flee. There is a tactical retreat, that is only when you are outgunned 3 ways to Sunday and find as much shielding as you can until the troops arrive.

Whomever came up with "What Would JFLED DO" needs to make bumper stickers... WWJFD, I will put it on my motorcycle and helmet!
