What the Hell is This?

Some kind of tray? With a pipe leading into the wall?

And it's not just one...it's a bunch?

An e-mailer says that these are in the 011 District patrolman's locker room, catching various drips and leaks, then directing them to a drain in a closet.

First of all, congratulations to the Plumber's Union because this is an amazing bit of "engineering" if ever we saw it. Secondly, what the hell? Why isn't stuff like this installed in every police station in the city? We could have saved ourselves a few hundred bucks in dry cleaning if we had had a couple of these installed years ago.

It's amazing what passes for safe work environments around here.

I just finished enlarging both pictures to get a better look.

Are those actually garbage bags draped over EXPOSED, rusty high-current electrical junctions to deflect water into those pans?? Plus it obvious that those electrical junctions have been getting wet for quite some time given the amount of rust on them.

I believe 011 had an electrical fire that closed the entire building for a few weeks just a couple of years ago. Could leaking pipes/water meeting an electrical source have been the cause of that smokey fire? If memory serves me correctly, it WAS an electrical fire that started in the basement electrical room which is adjacent to the men's locker room. Can anyone in 011 confirm this?

Either way, that certainly looks like a fire/electrocution hazard to me. I hope for the safety of the guys and gals in 011 someone reports this as an unsafe working environment to FOP, OSHA, etc.

It's just too bad that the bought-and-paid-for media will never touch this, and the FOP doesn't give a flying fuck about our health.

Now all you warriors get out there and write some parkers and ANOVs - Daley needs the cash for his life after Mayor of Shitcago.

I will personally attest to the fact that these concoctions do indeed grace the men's locker room on the 11th district.

You should see some of the other things going on in that building in terms of dangerous, unhealthy and unsanitary work conditions.

There IS one good thing about the warmer weather and the mold-infused "chilly wind" being pumped through 011: the piles of unwashed masses that take over our lobby as a place to crash all winter have left the nest, taking with them their putrid odors and myriad of diseases...at least until it gets cold outside again.

You have to wonder how many different species of mold, fungus, and bacteria are growing among the rust on the end of those vents in the second photo.

In fact, that "drip pan" in the second photo doesn't look like it's pitched very much, so I'll bet there's probably some nice putrid standing water in that thing most of the time - nice breeding ground for all sorts of little microbes.

I can imagine the look on a home inspector's face if I had similar marvels of engineering hanging in my basement when trying to sell my house....lol

My source tells me that before the year is over there will be a few indictments concerning VIOLATION OF CIVIL RIGHTS, FALSEAFYING POLICE REPORTS, UNLAWFUL ARRESTS, and PURGERY.

IAD has been working in conjunction with certain LIBERAL states attorneys and a certain judge (hint hint SHES in branch 44-2)and waited for these officers who where be watched and who ALWAYS observed 3 similar but separate transactions, scooped the guys on corner and "found" the work, stopping people for no reason and finding in their pockets narcotics blah blah blah....and waited for these officers to testify in court to actually build a case on them.

Just be aware that IAD is out there, and what better easy pickings than the hair gel copper from 011 District. Unless your surveillance/street corner arrest is NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH SO HELP YOU GOD...then I would worry. Because these same Bosses that YOU think are looking at you with great pride will turn their back on you in a heartbeat when the shit hits the fan. The pols will initially:

1. Two tier system for new hires. Will delay the inevitable.

2. Legislature will alter benefits for those who are on the job-- use some kind of pending doom reasoning. They would rather to this than actually cut their BS spending.

3. Once the emergency is declared, start judge shopping to lower the pensions of those collecting them.

It should take anywhere from 5 to 10 years for the pols to do all of this work.

As far as Union labor goes the trades are like your profession in the sense that we have good people and dog asses. It seems like the material used for the jobs gets crappier all the time and more difficult to work with. Unfortunately a lot of material isn't as sturdy or built to last like in the old days.

The conditions appear to be hazardous, especially the electrical. Chances are the fixtures aren't raintight or rainproof being installed indoors.

After seeing the pictures, I'll pass on a tranfer to general services to maintain your buildings.

My partner was an "ice cream and cake, hot dogs and hamburgers" type of guy who knows nothing about nutrition and fitness. When the thing was over he and a supervisor approached me and told me that "we should always run together and arrive as a team...work as a team" Seriously.
Those were the words they used. "run as a team".

It's still legally up in the air. The politicians who want to change pensions believe they can change "unearned" or prospective benefits. In other words, benefits you will earn in the future. Benefits you have earned already would be safe. If you have a lot of time on the job you probably need not worry as much as a a guy with a couple years.

There would be glorified HELL to pay if private citizens had to endure working conditions like this.

You bet your sweet ass most Police stations are bonafide cancer clusters!

That in addition to the God awful stuff, odors and hazards Policemen are exposed to on a daily basis.

PRIME reason Policemen should have been able to retire with a minimum of 20 years at 75%...

But as it is, too many muthafuckahs with the last name of Daley are too busy stealing everything they can from the people who constitute the "thinnest blue line."

It seems they're doing everything to kill coppers off.

Numerous actuarial studies, surveys, polls and such have been done over the years regarding the overall well being of department members. EVERY ONE OF THESE HAS BEEN SUPPRESSED!!

Why?

Because it would validate what Coppers have been screaming bloody fuckin' murder about and the blame for the current state of affairs would be firmly affixed to the current occupant of the 5th floor at city hall!

Remember, nothing is ever HIS fault.

If shorty were perpetrating this well orchestrated chorale of fuckery on actual citizens, the feds would be in his ass like cheap tissue...

But since it's only coppers being done dirty, nobody worthwhile capable of giving a fuck, gives a fuck except us and our family members.

Call Buildings Commissioner Rich Minachio and tell him your tales of these unsafe violations and ask what is he going to do about it.

For all of you hard charging, hair gel fueled, wanna-be narcotics officers in the 011 District. Please be aware that at 625 BLK of N. ALBANY is an I.A.D street investigations building.

And for all you court-whores out there making arrests because court is your side job. Just realize your "side job" might be the thing that gets you fired or indicted.

I do not know how far back this investigation has gone but please be warned. My source said mostly tactical team members and beat officers. Remember all the "rumors" about a certain SOS team being watched that everyone "thought" was bullshit??

This job has changed. Be safe, be SMART, BE WARNED.

That would not supprise me, but that address sounds like its not even in the 011 district. I think that area is one big factory. I'm getting a hint of bull shit, but I do agree that many of the officers better making arrests based on surveillance and not on "creative writing". I know its great to go eat with your Sergent and act like you like each other, but as soon shit hits the fan, watch how fast he gets away from you. And all the times he let you go home early are not going to mean jack shit. Unfortunately everything is learned the hard way on this job, unless you listen to people with some time on the job, but I'm assuming that you probably think that salty old timers are just lazy. Remember this, old timers have been around the block before you came along.

o.t. Police work is more than a job, You can get hurt!! If You are a scared, waste of air, paycheck collecting piece of shit , QUIT and get yourself an office job.
Channel 2 6pm news reported - "Chicago police say there was an immediate response to the shooting. But sources say a Chicago police officer was patrolling in her squad car and was alerted by three people who ran out of the store.
The officer turned the corner in her squad car in traffic, getting out with her gun drawn, approaching the store, then re-holstering her gun and getting back in her squad car. She never went in. A sergeant had already gone into the store."
(OEMC cameras capture and time stamp the following 1101-1103hrs more or less)
P.o. stopped in traffic N/b state= female approaches squad car = then 2 males approach the squad= "officer" continues n/b then disappears off camera - 1 minute and 10 seconds AFTER the first hand waiver the female "p.o." finally approaches the store after a sergeant entered. To make things worse = instead of backing up the sergeant =the "p.o." re holsters and back pedals out of there. WTF !!!!!! This department sucks, do not produce any activity -- BUT IF YOU ARE AFRAID TO DO THE JOB PLEASE DO NOT FURTHER PLACE MYSELF OR MY FELLOW OFFICERS, FURTHER IN HARMS WAY. I personally saw the 1st district damage while standing in the hall outside of central detention, it's a mess, This City can't do anyting legit, the b uilding inspectors do a mock inspection at these new buildings while under construction but the won't dare bang the politically connected builder in fears of getting fired by DA MAYOR, whose pals are the builders.

Now, what the the hell is this? (This should be a regular SCC feature.)

We all know that May 5 is a big Mexican holiday.

It is now May 7. I'm still waiting, but so far I have not seen ONE SINGLE SOLITARY MEXICAN FLAG ON DISPLAY ANYWHERE -- not in 025, which is, what, 80% Mexican? -- not in 016, not anywhere else I've been.

I've seen everything there is to see on Cinco de Mayo; groups of bare-chested, drunken young thugs waving Mexican flags and cursing and stoning CTA buses, cars with huge Mexican flags draped over the hood, flying from 2-by-4s stuck out the window as they blow the horn continuously, etc.

This year, nothing. Zip. Nada. Not even a toddler waving a tiny flag on a stick.

It struck me on the way home tonight.

Scared to death of the Census.

Funny watching census-takers go up to some of these houses, tentatively knocking on the door but afraid to do much more. Dark and silent.

You'd think everyone was dead in there, if you hadn't seen them all drinking out on the porch and working on cars under floodlights just a week or two ago...

Today 07may10 FOX news was in 007 dist.setting up a tent and cameras in the parking lot (1000hrs) While at the desk I heard desk personal ask what was going on. The camerman stated they were doing a story about crime in Englewood and in Chicago. I began talking to said camerman and crew and stated here is a story "crime is rising very rapidly around the whole city" I then stated could you please do us a favor and report that crime is up because we are down police (over 2000 not the b.s. 300 numbers they give) and the Mayor will not hire more police. I asked him to report why we are down so many, why no hiring and what the mayor does with the budgeted money for 13500 officers. I then stated you will not investigate or report this, Lets see maybe they will. Also, off to the side I said to the crew (while they left their equipment unattended) wouldn't it be newsworthy if you were doing a story about crime and somebody steals your video equipment? Maybe for the sake of the the citizens and the police you guys can report the real problems and the real numbers.

Doesn't this require a change in the state constitution? If so, changes such as that require a constitutional convention. A constitutional convention can only be called every ten years, IIRC. The last opportunity for that was the last election. I hope they won't consider a constitutional convention because that will open all kinds of worm cans, such as TERM LIMITS.

That building is still standing! It's UICPD's HQ these days.

I'd be surprised if any of our recent buildings last that long!

While at the desk I heard desk personal ask what was going on. The camerman stated they were doing a story about crime in Englewood and in Chicago. I began talking
---

YOU YOU YOU ME ME ME I I I I.
Fuck off we don't care.

Well, I care. At a time when we're all trying to get the word out how shorthanded we are, how bad the equipment is and how dire things really are, I just want to thank the person who stepped up.

Unfortunately, (s)he was probably talking to a cameraman, but you never know.

Mutterings from 35th st about a new rule for foot chases: Seems 'officer safety' is looking to become a rule where, during a foot chase, the fast partner must slow down and keep pace with the slow partner. True story. If you are a fast runner but your partner is not, you will have to run slower so you dont leave him/her behind.

I work alone. I will keep up with myself and direct things from the front seat of my squad car. Foot chase? Please. No way.

Yeah I heard the same thing. R&D has been looking into ordering everyone on the department to purchase a new pair of black Saucony gym shoes every 3 months. Because we all know that you can run faster with new gym shoes. And that should alleviate the fast/slow partner situation.

Yeah, they're called Felony Flyers. They even have a hidden pocket for a single Newport

Two things:

1. 625 N. Albany is a factory in 013.

2. Violence in the city has IAD throwing coppers under the bus on lock down. Unless a copper truly fucked himself, they are not looking to build cases on coppers. TRUST ME.

Two things:

1. I don't trust you (and no one should)
And
2. You "ass -u -me" way too much.

LUBERMAN used to arrive on some big deals too. Usually, the on duty Street Deputy would shoo him away, and then the real police would get down to business.
My guess is, the few real bosses we have left on what consists of a major city PD today would be hesitant to do that to he that shall be called "Little Shanks,"
for fear of their careers. Leadership by fear seems to be the going thing for CPD for the past year or so...you're either a yes man, or you're history. One would think Masters would have plenty on his plate with his self-proclaimed mission of "leading this Dept. into the 21st century," than to run around outside in matters clearly well above his level of training and expertise.

Foot chase rule? It won't apply to many people. Nobody has a partner anymore. Except, of course, the hoards of mayoral bodyguards.

Isn't this kind of a contradiction? They are so worried for your safety that you have to "run together" but yet you have to work alone on midnights. Another head scratch-er from the morons who graduated from Harvard cough::masters::cough.

Area 5 had the same thing a few years ago. OSHA does not respond it dalls on the Illinois Department of Labor. they came out and took pictures and "tested" the air quality. They gave the City weeks to "clean" it all up. The city did not fix the leaking roof or pipes, they installed hidden pans in the drop ceiling with tubes attached that would drain into strategically placed garbage cans. They removed some water damaged furniture and painted over a few ceiling tiles and they passed the next "test". Everyone filed grievances and were dismissed as having no basis.
